M1 SoC cannot handle 1 display maybe..because you can have 1 external monitor and 1 slidecare ipad 13" display side by side...so the M1 still can hadle two displays....maybe you wanted to say he cant handle 2/3 external monitors
but with the next 14" and 16" that will be not the case
What if my Air 13 is used for travel, and for example there are situations when you come to work, and you don't have a full-fledged MacBook with you, there are 2 monitors and you need to buy a tablet, seriously?

Or when I need to connect to the car diagnostic interface or some other software to communicate with GE, ABB, Schneider-Electric components for automation and so on - should i buy Windows laptop? iPad, Windows laptop, what should i buy to use MacBook Pro with super-duper M processor? May be dedicated server in the cloud, so i can run containers/ virtual machines where?

This is what Apple should have done for the 2016 model.

In 2016, no one asked for the touchbar, butterfly keyboard, dongle hell, and a significant price bump. The 2016-2019 models were crap. I bought the 2016 model and used it for 3 days before returning it. It was that bad.

Maybe Apple is finally waking up after the terrible Jony Ive era. It's crazy to think that Apple pretty much ruined the Macbook Pro and Mac Pro for so long.

Give us M1X, 30hrs of battery life, no touch bar, more ports, and drop the price by $200 from Apple Silicon and no-touch bar savings. Macs will fly off the shelves.

I bought a 2014 MacBook Pro and then bought a banged-up used 2015 in 2018 after reading the horror stories in the MBP forum. They meet my needs. The models coming out this fall sound like a dream system to upgrade to. I had considered the MBP13 but it's missing ports and RAM. Apple is going to make a lot of people happy and probably kill the used Retina market.

and extra ports
I find it quite puzzling that people are advocating for "more ports" with literally zero suggestion about what those ports are.

Essentially any port other than Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 is less flexible, and most of them are single purpose. It could conceivably more ports you will never use, at the expense of ports you could use.

My wishlist: hdmi, usb-a, sd-card, mini displayport. People upgrading from Retina MacBook Pros would like to reuse old cables.

Take all my money. It would be like having my 2012 MBP back again (which I would still have if it hadn't been stolen). Like others have said, this is essentially my wish list of things that need fixing on the Mac. It's almost like Apple has finally realized they went astray for 1/2 a decade and are trying to course correct. HDMI and an SD card slot would be plenty of additional ports (especially if I get to also keep the four USB-C and headphone)

That's because most monitors still come in HDMI, most mice and keyboard are still USB A, and most cameras still use SD cards. Apple thought devices would have adopted USBC much faster starting in 2016. It turns out, most devices never adopted USBC since 2016 and may never.

Am I the only one wondering if MagSafe on the new laptops uses the same “puck” as iPhone but attaches magneticly over the Apple logo on the back of the screen?

If that ends up being the case, will people who don't like the MagSafe "puck" say "Puck you!" to Apple?

I haven't read through all of the comments yet, my apologies if I am repeating a (lame) joke that someone else already made. ;)

Looks like my patience of holding onto and continuing to use my OG 15" rMBP from 2012 has paid off. MagSafe back, maybe an SD slot?, more ports.....now I'm ready for an upgrade!!

Why? Magic Keyboard is great.

Two things.

Key Spacing, they are closely packed together, or each keys are slightly larger. That seems great on the surface, at least that was my first impression. But over time I realise having more space in between the keys gives a subtle signal to moving between keys. While not a big problem, getting used to it and it being better is different.

Key Travels, Magic Keyboard has a 1mm, up from the previous 0.7mm butterfly. Which is great for people who were used to butterfly and going back to a 1.0mm key travel Magic Keyboard. But the previous Scissors Keyboard has 1.3mm, and despite being only 0.3mm difference gives much more feedback. Considering the current TDP handling of MacBook and Battery improvements, the trade off just because it is getting thinner isn't worth it in my opinion.

Most of the Windows world still has the old ports and that's slowed things down for Apple. It's nice that Apple is at the bleeding edge but we have TB1, TB2 for which there are few products now (unless you get yet another adapter). If Apple had their own branded dongle with all of these ports, that would have been good enough for me. But what I'd really prefer is the 2015 ports. I enjoy these ports on a daily basis.

As for the Touch bar, I actually like it and it does not bother me one bit. Its usage I will admit is sparse, but so were the existing function keys on older generations, outside of volume up and down.

This has been my experience with the Touch Bar on my M1 MBP.

This is my first time with a MacBook that has it. I like using it, but I do have to remember to use it (with is probably a down side, admittedly).

But I also rarely use the function keys, either.

So it doesn't really matter to me which way they go with regards to the Touch bar on future MBP.

On the other hand, the other things listed in this rumor are much more interesting to me.

I've played around with the Air/M1 and I find the keyboard decent enough for mobile use. I haven't used it extensively though. I never really used the Butterfly. I usually use a mechanical keyboard on Macs but do like something good enough when I'm mobile.

I really hope MagSafe means the actual MagSafe and not this puck thing. That would be really awesome. I don’t know why they ditched MagSafe for USB-C charging. I think it should have USB-C ports but it doesn’t have to charge by those.

I think I am sort of in the similar position, Magic keyboard is good enough, or tolerable. But it could be better.

I couldn't stand Butterfly, despite years or trying to like it. It just didn't work.

The problem is my home machine is 2015 MBP, and Work Machine has always been the latest.... which always gives me a point go comparison when using both.

Hallelujah !!!

Hopefully with an led to show charging, even pulsing when it sleeps ... bringing back the correct finder icon instead of that grinning thing Jony Ives replaced the true original icon with ( PLEASE )

One of the nice things about MagSafe was that it was a defacto standard in some environments. So many people had Macs at the office that you could borrow a cable if you forgot yours. Same thing at university. Every Dell, HP, Lenovo seems to have a separate charging brick. The other thing is that your MagSafe 1 cable that you got with your 2007 MacBook Pro can charge your 2015 MacBook Pro. It would be very cool if you could use a 2007 charger on a 2021 MacBook Pro.

I seriously doubt Apple includes anything but USB-C. When have they backtracked on anything in recent years?

The Butterfly keyboard? They dumped it and went with a Magic keyboard, which uses the older and arguably better scissors technology.

And this happened starting late 2019 with the 16" MBP and all of the MBA and other MBP models got it in 2020.

I would call that recent.

Here we go guys!!

CAN'T WAITTTTTTTT
MagSafe and no Touch Bar! That alone is worth the price.
No Touch Bar? More ports? REAL MagSafe is back?!? No needed dongles?? And it’s not April 1st?!?

Very good (rumored) news!!! Makes me wish I was in the market for one.
Yeah. With all the government lockdowns I can only afford a new iPad Pro this year. Gonna hafts wait. 😠

I think there will be a size with the Touch Bar and one without it like previously. 14 without it, 16 with it.
