Tim Cook thinks more expensive + less innovation have never been stronger at Apple. In fact, a new NPD report reiterates that fewer than 10 percent of American smartphone buyers spend more than $1,000. It won't be a surprise if the majority of the iPhone sales are not from X design model that price at $1,000 and have a bad looking/outdated notch screen.

The iPhone 4 design is still perhaps the best to date. Anyone else agree?

yep.. brushed stainless steel frame that is scratchproof, strong and built like a tank. The only weakness was its glass back so that iPhone 6 switched to whole aluminum to improve structure support. But alas glass back is making a comeback for wireless charging.

What a funny world it is.

You think I wouldn’t trade FaceID for no notch? Good riddance!
I don’t know about you.
I know I wouldn’t.

Pretty easily. Just replicate the latest iPad Pro design and scale it down.
People here would complain about the bezels... definitely it wouldn’t work.

Three different quotes with the same reply and that too an incorrect one?

They raised prices in 2017 (iPhone 8, 8 plus). That was 2 years ago only.

And thats not even taking into account that they launched another tier for their flagship model for a higher price (Xs max and its successor). That would make it only one year (2019) they didnt raise the cost of owning the base config of their top model.
You are wrong.
iphone X - iPhone XS - iPhone 11 Pro : same price.

Three years in a row.

Almost every year I had to have the latest iPhone, that all stopped after iPhone 7 Plus. I got it on release and refuse to upgrade as the prices keep climbing, I would rather give up using a mobile than pay out what they are asking. it’s not that I can’t afford it before anyone comments, it just that why should I give in to the manufacturs demand. If people keep giving the. What they ask, they will keep on making the huge profit margins. People hold all the power but just refuse use it and instead give that power to the manufactures, just imagine if no one purchased the next flag ship for one year and see what message that sends to them.

Lets not kid ourselves. The price of smart phones is going to become astronomical in the coming years.

Apple are already testing the water with monthly payment plans etc for $1000-$1500 phones. What's another $20-$50 a month for the latest $1700-$2000+ iPhone's of the future?

It won't be too long until our iPhone's cost the same as a MacBook Pro.

I'm not so sure. There has already been a significant backlash against the current price line leading to multiple tiers of phone. For example, I'm still running my iPhone 8 and don't plan to upgrade until maybe next year when 5Gs hit. I skipped the entire X, X^2, XS, XSSSss, XP!!!, product lines. People are keeping phones longer because the innovation isn't there and we've hit a plateau on performance needs.

Now, apple seems to have 5 different models out at all different price points trying to cater to too many markets.

I am so anxious to see the 2020 iPhone lineup. Probably will retire my X if they're as good as the hype suggests.

I had the original iPhone. Then I got the 3G. Then 3Gs. So on and so on. But now I'm still using my iPhone 8 Plus because of the prices. I might upgrade in a year. But, definitely not if the prices go up even further.

Kuo: Next Year's 5G iPhones With Redesigned Metal Frame Won't Have Major Price Increase

But still a price increase. Cant wait to see what is considered minor, because i doubt its $20 😂

1. It should have NO price price increase. They are already very expensive.
2. The Pro models should come with 128 GB for entry level, to justify that high Pro pricing.

But alas, my prediction is they won't raise the storage minimum until 2021, since people will pay those prices to get 5G.

They're going to increase the price as much as they can. They don't need more iPhone users, it's more profitable to keep the same users and milk their extra income gradually through cables, subscriptions, apple care, disposable headphones. Really clever stuff. It's hilarious when people say if you get something for free then you're the product, no thanks!! but will happily use an Apple card and get the 'free' cash back.

Uh. Not everybody upgrades every year or the same time. Like the this year most people weren’t upgrading from an iPhone XS. There was a lot of iPhone 7’s and 6s’s and se’s
Smart people upgrade when it makes sense. That is "never" every year (unless the provider has good plan for them etc.). And yes, tons of people on 6's 7's etc. (myself included) waiting for a good upgrade. Personally I'm excited for the SE2 (or 9 or whatever the name) as it is shaping up to be sensible upgrade. 11 Pro and 11 is not (for me)

iPhone X was the base. Can’t count it. That’s just not how mathematics or logic work.

Just to help you grasp the concept, let’s assume Apple did wish to increase price for the 2017 iPhone X. Now explain how they could have done that.

They couldn’t. It was a new model. Only with the iPhone Xs & iphone 11 they had an option to change the price. So 2 years. Not 3.

Apple will not significantly increase the price of 5G iPhones compared to this year's lineup.

The price of a product is completely independent of the costs to manufacture it. The only thing that drives the price is how much people are willing to pay for it.

Manufacturing costs only play a part in whether a company decides to sell the product, and how much profit they make from it. If it the manufacturing cost + required profit is more than the price consumers are willing to pay, then they simply don't make the product.

They wont increase the price, but remove the 64GB option, making the lowest cost iPhone starting at 256GB, iPhone 11 Pro Max currently cost $1249.

I would be very surprised if a mmWave 5G Smartphone is not charging more than its 4G counterpart.

I don’t know how that could be possible without cancel the Face ID. And nobody want to cancel Face ID.

Respectfully speaking, I don't want Face ID anymore. I used to be a rah-rah cheerleader for Face ID, but I'll be honest I think it stinks now. It's failed on me so many times I have simply turned it off and now only authenticate via pin. It's failed many times for my wife as well. This failure has occurred across 3 devices - an iPhone XS Plus, an iPhone XR and an iPad 2018 12.9". All with pretty lousy success rates.

I'm all for an in-glass fingerprint sensor now (either on the front or back of the device). I wasn't wild about the old home button fingerprint sensor, but I'm confident the technology has improved that I'd be willing to give it another chance. But until they can improve Face ID, or find a way to put it behind glass (and thus get rid of the darn notch), I'm already over it.

Unless you have some sort of special face I’m going with user error here. I use face ID every day and it fails for me about once or twice a week. Disabling face ID because I had to put my PIN in twice a week so then I have to put a PIN in every time would not make sense. The old fingerprint touch ID did not work for me because I’m always working outside with my hands so when my hands are dirty or rough it fails. I would get multiple failures a day. Of course you can say that’s user failure on my part and in my situation maybe it is

Fortunately Apple won‘t follow your suggestion and settle for a vastly inferior solution.
Face ID is almost perfect in my experience, especially on iPhone 11 series and iPad Pro.

iphone X - XS - 11 Pro had the same prices. You can twist it how you prefer, but this is a fact. 3 years, 3 generations... call it as you want but Apple didn’t raise prices.

Even if you consider iphone 8 Plus - XR - 11 , prices didn’t go up.

So what’s the difference between the inevitable price increase and Kuo’s denial of a “significant” price increase?

Apple is rumored to launch four 5G-enabled iPhones in fall 2020, and while 5G-related components could raise the production costs of the devices by $30 to $100 depending on the model, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple will not significantly increase the price of 5G iPhones compared to this year's lineup.

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max models start at $999 and $1,099 respectively in the United States, while the iPhone 11 starts at $699.

fouriphones2020-800x572.jpg

In a research note with TF International Securities, viewed by MacRumors, Kuo said Apple instead aims to offset the cost of 5G by reducing its supply chain expenses, potentially including dropping its upfront non-recurring engineering payment to suppliers of the redesigned metal chassis and frame for 5G iPhones.

Non-recurring engineering refers to the one-time cost to research, design, develop, and test a new product or component. Kuo believes Apple will shift more of this research and development in house.

While the non-recurring engineering payment has typically helped Apple's suppliers stay afloat when iPhone sales start to slow during the spring and summer each year, Kuo believes it will be less essential in 2020 and beyond since Apple is expected to start releasing iPhones on a biannual basis going forward -- lower-end iPhones in the spring and higher-end iPhones in the fall.

Kuo has previously claimed that 5G iPhones will sport a redesigned metal frame with an iPhone 4-like design, suggesting a return to flatter edges. In today's note, he said both the chassis and frame on 5G iPhones will cost Apple significantly more to manufacture, perhaps pointing towards an even more premium design.

Thought I made it easy enough for a kindergartener to understand by asking how could Apple increase the price of iPhone X if they wanted to. By your logic, on my 2nd birthday, I’d be 3 years old. Somehow....

Anyways, seems like you are deliberately being obtuse here so I bow out. Feel free to have the last word if you can’t resist.

Again: iPhone X - iPhone XS - iPhone 11 Pro

three generations over three years (guess what ? In august 2020 the iPhone 11 Pro will still cost $999, until the “iPhone 12” will be released).
twist it as much as you wish: still 3 generations of iPhone at the same price. Apple didn’t raise the price.

There will absolutely be a price increase on all of these iPhone 12 models. My “guess” would be in the range of $50.00 - $100.00, depending on the model.

There is a reason why Apple is offering the iPhone 9 (SE 2...whatever the hell they’re going to call it) and offering it around the $400.00 mark. Those unwilling to pay a premium for updated, upgraded premium phones can still buy a new iPhone for a reasonable price in the Spring.

Then, in Autumn, the newly designed iPhones, upgraded with 5G, etc., premium phones launch, and they will be priced as premium devices. I would guess that the 5.4” iPhone 12 starts at $749.00, 6.1” iPhone 12 $799.00, 6.1” iPhone Pro $1099.00, 6.7” iPhone Pro Max $1,199.00.

Throwing out a guess, but I’d venture that the standard 12 models will offer 64, 128, 256 GB storage options, pro models will offer 128, 256, 512 GB storage options.
