It’s time for a change. The titanium on the Apple Watch Ultra feels amazing. The stainless steel is outdated and old now. Furthermore, say good bye to the fingerprints! Also, it’s lighter too. You are going to love the titanium more.
Some fun facts about Titanium...from a few Google searches:
- is named after the sons of the Earth goddess Gaea of Greek mythology
- was discovered in 1791 by a monk named William Gregor
- is the 22nd atomic element, so it has 22 protons. It also has 26 neutrons and 22 electrons.
- has a hexagonal crystal structure
- can only be extracted by the "Kroll Process", in which titanium dioxide is reacted with chlorine to form titanium etrachloride, which is then reacted with magnesium to strip away the chlorine and leave behind the pure metal.
- Melts at 3038 degrees F, and boils at 5949 F. By comparison, most types of steel melt around 2500 to 2800 F.
- is a metal (as opposed to a non-metal) and is the 9th most common metal in the Earth's crust, making up less than 1/2 of 1% of the Earth's crust.
- Titanium is forged in supernovas. This is fascinating, because that means that finding it in "Earth's crust" means that Earth's crust was once involved in at least one supernova!
- It was first industrially extracted in the 1930's.
- Current price is 35 US cents per pound.
- is not magnetic and, being resistant to corrosion, does not rust, but can oxidize if exposed to acid and oxygen (I think)
- will not set off a metal detector, but will show up on x-rays
- is the fourth-hardest metal, behind Tungsten (hardest), steel, and chromium
- is harder than iron
- is alloyed with aluminum, molybdenum, and iron. These alloys are used in the making of dental implants, joint and bone replacements, aircraft components such as fan blades, spacecraft, and missiles. Oh, and Apple Watch Ultras...probably due to its corrosion and heat resistance. If you are wearing your Titanium Apple Watch Ultimate when the case melts, I'm sure you'll have more serious problems...like having your hand, wrist, and arm melt with it!

While this is just me, if I was spending well over $1000 for a mobile phone, a shock-proof case would be a requirement too.
I'm with you. I usually have a rubberized case just to keep the damned thing from jiggling its way off the edge of tables and onto the floor and possibly breaking the screen.
...The case color is the one remembered.
I know, right? I had to flip my 12 Max Pro over to look at the color around the camera area, because the case hides the color everywhere else.
But again, that's just me. I know there are people who will put >$1000 purchase at great risk in a single fall scenario. It's only money. A few unfortunate slips and one could "collect them all" over the next year! 🎉
LOL at the "collect them all" comment! But yeah, I broke my 6+ screen by dropping the device from less than a 4-foot height. It didn't have a case on it and I was cleaning up after Hurricane Irma in 2017. I had an armload of wood from a storage box I had taken apart and was gathering up for garbage collection...and it just slid right off the top and hit the concrete on a corner. Craaaccckkkk! That one I repaired at close to $200, since I wasn't ready to upgrade to the 10 just yet.
Although that blue looks sexy, and the periscope camera is really attractive; can't justify to upgrade from 14 Pro Max... The times of a new iPhone every year seem gone.
You would be smart to wait. Unless your camera complaints are like a lot of other people's.
while I always use a case (bare phone is slippery) I also always get AC+, but that's just me
I also "usually" get AppleCare+. One of the few "protection" schemes I'll pay for.
I feel like it’ll likely be 6x.
In my personal opinion and usage, 10x is widely overkill. I’d probably use it once just to see its capability and then forget about it. I barely use the 3x as it is haha so I might just be in the minority about this.
The more you zoom, the more difficult it is to hold the device steady. In this case, a steadycam or DJI gimbal is almost a requirement.
USB - C is why I'll be upgrading from 13 pro, I can't wait to eliminate all lightning devices. It will take some time though.
I do have a few adaptors laying around the house. They seem to work fine and I only run into a snag if the device really needs to have actual Thunderbolt compatibility.
I was at a concert watching a man with a samsung record footage and was in awe at how much better it looked. 14 pro camera is so terrible I can’t stand it. I swear my 12 pro took better pictures
So it looked better on his SCREEN. This may or may not translate to looking better on other devices. But I have heard a number of complaints in general of the 14's camera.
Were any of these phones manufactured in India?
This is a good question. I know that India is a US ally, but I want to see LESS of India benefitting from economic activity with America at least until India puts a stop to the scammers who prey on so many elderly in the US. India, this is not the behavior of an international friend! YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SCAMMERS. India, DO BETTER.
Can’t wait to hear this argument the exact opposite way four years from now when they inevitably return to stainless steel.
We’ve gone from:
Aluminum and plastic
All plastic
Glass and stainless steel
Glass and Aluminum
Aluminum and plastic
Glass and stainless steel+glass and aluminum
Glass and titanium
I have no doubt they’ll eventually go back
It's all going to come down to what is cheaper and what can people pay for in that moment. Inflation in the US is moving people from the middle class to the lower class.
This is a problem much bigger than people realize. I think it could even get worse t han you say and that if inflation continues unchecked, then it will only be a matter of time before Apple has to consider using plastic instead of steel (of any kind), Titanium, or any other material that costs so much to mine, extract, refine, and manufacture.
Inflation is real, ladies and gentlemen. You should probably be more upset about it than you are. Just sayin'.
I agree. My iPhone 14 Pro is very heavy. I'm torn, however, on the weight issue. I would be happy to have a thicker and heavier phone if the battery life was improved. The iPhone 14 Pro, however, is heavier yet has WORSE battery life!
You may be a good candidate to consider a Mophie (or similar) external battery pack that just attaches to the back of your iPhone. It serves as a case AND an auxilliary battery. The only drawback is that your phone may now be heavy enough to warrant a wagon for toting it around, lol!
