Good insight! Everything is pretty much set in stone already since Apple is in the process of recording the Apple Wonderlust Event. I just hope Apple doesn’t delay the iPhone 15 Pro Max Line up.

Yeah... not much "news" here except that's definitely my concern too. If I get one of these, I'm going with the 15 Pro Max without a doubt. I have a 13 Pro and my one regret since I bought it was not getting it with the larger display size. I find that these days, I really use my phone as a hand-held computer as often as I do a traditional phone. I'd rather have the larger capacity battery and more screen real-estate to make it easier to view content like web pages and to make watching videos a little more enjoyable.

I used to prefer a smaller, lighter device that fit in my pocket easier. But when I think about the fact this is FAR from doing what older flip or "stick" type cellphones did, it just makes sense to me it should be larger.

Annoys me that every time, Apple takes these "highest spec" phone models and declares them the "lowest production numbers" on a product launch.

It’s time for a change. The titanium on the Apple Watch Ultra feels amazing. The stainless steel is outdated and old now. Furthermore, say good bye to the fingerprints! Also, it’s lighter too. You are going to love the titanium more.
I assume you are joking.
0- I don't see where the change is. I guess I need to redefine the defention of "change"!
1- Titanium feels amazing? Can you quantify how you can feel the amazingness of titanium?
2- The stainless steel is never outdated. Get your facts checked before posting. Rolex, Omega, Cartier and major luxury watch brands make watches out of SS.
3- Lighter? First of all it's impossible for human to tell the difference in weight of these two items (blindly). Second, it doesn't matter! the difference is 5 grams. It's not like 50 kg.

Titanium is not as tough as Stainless Steel in absorbing impacts before fracturing.
Titanium becomes fragile in lower tempratures, e.g. it's not as good as SS in mounteneering.

Overall titanium is just a marketing gimmick to fool customers.

I don't see a single reason apple charging an astronomical price for few grams of titanium.

you must not wear basketball shorts often - if you go for a walk or run errands, it just drags shorts down no matter how tightly you tie them. I even find this with board shorts.

also when using the phone while in bed laying down - it can feel very heavy as you hold it one handed looking at something.
Great arguments. However battery (life) is great argument as well.

Let's settle this down by saying that it would be best to bring another line of iPhones, called iPhone Lite with smaller battery, but also smaller weight as well.

Disclaimer: this is just a joke.

Yeah I don't understand people who think heavy=premium, it's easy to make something heavy, it takes much more engineering effort to make it surprisingly light!
It goes both ways. It's easy to include small battery and having very small battery life.

The battery life in iPhone 14 is not enormous already, so please don't make it even smaller.

You could keep the same battery size and make it out of lighter materials...

Ditch the back glass and make it plastic. Go with micro thin glass on the screen. Get rid of the stainless steel. I bet it would weigh a LOT less than what we have now.

You may not buy it, but I definitely would. And make it emerald green as well. :)

Ah, then it makes sense. I thought not just weight, but also width is what triggers people.

As for the material, I believe plastic back and getting rid of the steel would feel less premium for many and would not justify premium price.

I'm fine with current size and weight. I mean the best would be iPhone Mini - but I'm clearly in a minority.

There is a blue iPhone 15 Pro Max out there somewhere with my name on it.
I have had every iPhone since day one...no need to change now!

For me it's more weight, but I wont be buying a Pro Max anymore either. I have 2 phones, a 14 Pro, and a Flip5, and both crave what I said I wanted. They're both way too heavy for what they are. (and too slick to use without a case, so even more weight than it comes with.)

As for the material, I believe plastic back and getting rid of the steel would feel less premium for many and would not justify premium price.
I understand what you mean and why some think it's important, but usage wins out over looks every time for me, even if I might have the money to buy the premium one.

I don’t wear basketball shorts no, but I do wear shorts that tie up and just don’t have the issue you describe.

I have an iPad for that, I don’t feel a bedroom environment is a good one to be looking at a phone screen.

I mean, I do it for a few minutes, before I put my phone on its night stand, but it is just a few minutes and then I grab my iPad/book/whatever.

I was at a concert watching a man with a samsung record footage and was in awe at how much better it looked. 14 pro camera is so terrible I can’t stand it. I swear my 12 pro took better pictures
That’s absolutely true. Besides, 48mpx camera gets less light than 12mpx in same conditions

I also enjoy the feel of SS on my Rolex watches. Its not outdated at all. On a phone maybe....but on a Rolex...never.

I don't get all this back and forth about color - I would bet less than 10% of the iPhones I see in the wild DON'T have a case on them, and the majority of those cases give no indication of the color of the device.

They need to move to 8 GB of RAM. Not upgrading until. My 12 Pro is often unable to switch between just *FOUR to FIVE* apps without caching/re-loading them. If THAT is the user-experience they're still trying to force on people with a 2023 flagship phone... I'd say that's unacceptable.

Some fun facts about Titanium...from a few Google searches:
  • is named after the sons of the Earth goddess Gaea of Greek mythology
  • was discovered in 1791 by a monk named William Gregor
  • is the 22nd atomic element, so it has 22 protons. It also has 26 neutrons and 22 electrons.
  • has a hexagonal crystal structure
  • can only be extracted by the "Kroll Process", in which titanium dioxide is reacted with chlorine to form titanium etrachloride, which is then reacted with magnesium to strip away the chlorine and leave behind the pure metal.
  • Melts at 3038 degrees F, and boils at 5949 F. By comparison, most types of steel melt around 2500 to 2800 F.
  • is a metal (as opposed to a non-metal) and is the 9th most common metal in the Earth's crust, making up less than 1/2 of 1% of the Earth's crust.
  • Titanium is forged in supernovas. This is fascinating, because that means that finding it in "Earth's crust" means that Earth's crust was once involved in at least one supernova!
  • It was first industrially extracted in the 1930's.
  • Current price is 35 US cents per pound.
  • is not magnetic and, being resistant to corrosion, does not rust, but can oxidize if exposed to acid and oxygen (I think)
  • will not set off a metal detector, but will show up on x-rays
  • is the fourth-hardest metal, behind Tungsten (hardest), steel, and chromium
  • is harder than iron
  • is alloyed with aluminum, molybdenum, and iron. These alloys are used in the making of dental implants, joint and bone replacements, aircraft components such as fan blades, spacecraft, and missiles. Oh, and Apple Watch Ultras...probably due to its corrosion and heat resistance. If you are wearing your Titanium Apple Watch Ultimate when the case melts, I'm sure you'll have more serious problems...like having your hand, wrist, and arm melt with it!
While this is just me, if I was spending well over $1000 for a mobile phone, a shock-proof case would be a requirement too.
I'm with you. I usually have a rubberized case just to keep the damned thing from jiggling its way off the edge of tables and onto the floor and possibly breaking the screen.
...The case color is the one remembered.
I know, right? I had to flip my 12 Max Pro over to look at the color around the camera area, because the case hides the color everywhere else.
But again, that's just me. I know there are people who will put >$1000 purchase at great risk in a single fall scenario. It's only money. A few unfortunate slips and one could "collect them all" over the next year! 🎉
LOL at the "collect them all" comment! But yeah, I broke my 6+ screen by dropping the device from less than a 4-foot height. It didn't have a case on it and I was cleaning up after Hurricane Irma in 2017. I had an armload of wood from a storage box I had taken apart and was gathering up for garbage collection...and it just slid right off the top and hit the concrete on a corner. Craaaccckkkk! That one I repaired at close to $200, since I wasn't ready to upgrade to the 10 just yet.
Although that blue looks sexy, and the periscope camera is really attractive; can't justify to upgrade from 14 Pro Max... The times of a new iPhone every year seem gone.
You would be smart to wait. Unless your camera complaints are like a lot of other people's.
while I always use a case (bare phone is slippery) I also always get AC+, but that's just me
I also "usually" get AppleCare+. One of the few "protection" schemes I'll pay for.
I feel like it’ll likely be 6x.

In my personal opinion and usage, 10x is widely overkill. I’d probably use it once just to see its capability and then forget about it. I barely use the 3x as it is haha so I might just be in the minority about this.
The more you zoom, the more difficult it is to hold the device steady. In this case, a steadycam or DJI gimbal is almost a requirement.
USB - C is why I'll be upgrading from 13 pro, I can't wait to eliminate all lightning devices. It will take some time though.
I do have a few adaptors laying around the house. They seem to work fine and I only run into a snag if the device really needs to have actual Thunderbolt compatibility.
I was at a concert watching a man with a samsung record footage and was in awe at how much better it looked. 14 pro camera is so terrible I can’t stand it. I swear my 12 pro took better pictures
So it looked better on his SCREEN. This may or may not translate to looking better on other devices. But I have heard a number of complaints in general of the 14's camera.
Were any of these phones manufactured in India?
This is a good question. I know that India is a US ally, but I want to see LESS of India benefitting from economic activity with America at least until India puts a stop to the scammers who prey on so many elderly in the US. India, this is not the behavior of an international friend! YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SCAMMERS. India, DO BETTER.
Can’t wait to hear this argument the exact opposite way four years from now when they inevitably return to stainless steel.
We’ve gone from:
Aluminum and plastic
All plastic
Glass and stainless steel
Glass and Aluminum
Aluminum and plastic
Glass and stainless steel+glass and aluminum
Glass and titanium

I have no doubt they’ll eventually go back
It's all going to come down to what is cheaper and what can people pay for in that moment. Inflation in the US is moving people from the middle class to the lower class.

This is a problem much bigger than people realize. I think it could even get worse t han you say and that if inflation continues unchecked, then it will only be a matter of time before Apple has to consider using plastic instead of steel (of any kind), Titanium, or any other material that costs so much to mine, extract, refine, and manufacture.

Inflation is real, ladies and gentlemen. You should probably be more upset about it than you are. Just sayin'.
I agree. My iPhone 14 Pro is very heavy. I'm torn, however, on the weight issue. I would be happy to have a thicker and heavier phone if the battery life was improved. The iPhone 14 Pro, however, is heavier yet has WORSE battery life!
You may be a good candidate to consider a Mophie (or similar) external battery pack that just attaches to the back of your iPhone. It serves as a case AND an auxilliary battery. The only drawback is that your phone may now be heavy enough to warrant a wagon for toting it around, lol!

I only asked because India's manufacturing is trash, the country is incapable of doing anything with respect to quality. Macrumors even ran a story of how terrible their iphone casings were;

The worst thing is when I lay on my side and my phone (or iPad) screen keeps switching its orientation so I can't read it. So I interact with my watch instead.

That's interesting to know. Thanks for the head's up. But yeah...I STILL want to see India change its ways.
