The iPhone hype is over. Steve Jobs's magic is gone. Sad times.
. It’s not really that I think who wants the same design phone since the iPhone 6 with upgrades the iPhone 8 is iPhone 7S I’m sure Apple only used 8 because of Samsung 8 series phones to compete with them . But seriously the design is played out so of course sales are bad everyone is waiting for iPhone 10 I know I am that’s why I held onto my iPhone 6 Plus for so long the minor upgrades Apple did with 6S,7 & 8 are not worth it in my opinion .

This is the clearest evidence yet that Kuo is a Stooge of Apple !

I agree with the others who say Cupertino crafted Kuo's latest message !

And, Cook must really be worried ... he effectively just ruined Kuo's reputation (by forcing him to defend Apple at this time) ... what little credibility he had, is now gone, or will be soon when "the masses" figure things out.

It certainly "appears" Apple didn't sell anymore than 2-3M iPhone 8 & 8+ units over the Launch Weekend.

It's clear the Steve Jobs "charm" is gone ... but, it probably lasted alot longer than even Jobs himself would have ever thought !

My best guess, he expected Cook to last only 3-4 years, tops ... the Steve Jobs "charm" got him (Cook) way past that !

I think Apple should release just one phone. iPhone X should be the iPhone 8. iPhone X is absolutely the best on the market. But the cropped screen is just unacceptable! This will never happen if Jobs still here. So ugly!!!

Over here in the UK it is super easy to find an iPhone 8 in stock both at Apple Store and John Lewis. That never happened before just a few days after launch.

well in the UK (ebay) you can already buy iPhone 8 Plus unlocked new in box with GBP 150-200+ discount. (SRP for 256GB - £949'ish) - some locked versions sold for even down to £630'ish. Multiple BIN for < £800.

Really? Are those people who've grabbed them as upgrades on contract and realised the market is saturated?

Wow.. you weren't kidding. I have nothing to do with this eBayer or anything.. just one of the first links I happened to find:

Remember, this year is most confusing one.
We have iphone 8 for those who want a compact cheaper option with todays internal hardware
We have the edge to edge normal iphone, called X
And we have 8 plus for those who are used to plus UI ETC

These figures are based off app analytics aren't they?

No one seems to be talking about the fact that the iPhone 8/+ are still readily available and always have been throughout the launch. This means that everyone who ordered one has already got their new phone. There are no backorders.

Every other year there have been huge backlogs that last for months in some cases.

So on the one hand we have half as many iPhone 8's being sold as usual and thats compared to previous launches where a lot of people still hadn't even got their pre-ordered iPhone yet. And on the other hand we have previous iPhones that sold twice as many even with a lot of people still waiting for their phones to arrive.

Thats not good news for apple.

At some point people might have to accept that apple ****** up this launch and took customers for ***** a little too much this year.

What do you expect though? When they release a similar but 'slightly better' version of the previous models and a WHOLE NEW DESIGN in the same year, of course there's going to be people who'll skip the 8/8+ and go straight for the X.

This is true. I decided last minute to get the 8+ so went to the Regent Street store, and snagged the last one in Gold without reserving or anything. I got lucky ofc, whoever came after me would have been pissed. I believe one of the 8 models was also sold out, but there were definitely still 8/8+'s available! This was on Sunday.

I think sticking to the same design which hasn't changed for years is the biggest mistake they did with IP8.

Well here in NZ the 8 is the first Apple device that hasn’t been freely available in multiple shops from launch day. With a broken phone here we needed one the other day even though the X is on order. I have bought all sorts since the original iPad on launch day, and this is the first time I’ve failed to buy. Ordered online, estimated 2-3 weeks delivery. This certainly doesn’t seem to be a disappointing launch for Apple.
Seriously? Where are you based? In Christchurch they seem to be available basically everywhere.

I think by normal sales standards it might of sold well but for an iPhone it is below par sales and we know why that is.

Just asked Tim Cooks and he said:

"I could not be more delighted at the amazing response, people keep telling us how much they love our products"

Problem with the 8 is that it's not this years flagship, but simply a 7S in a glass shell with little to no practical benefits compared to the 7, except wireless charging maybe... Bottom Line: the 8 feels like buying an outdated model considering the X. And an Apple customer that is OK with buying an outdated model, will probably go for the cheaper 7...

"According to Kuo, first weekend sales of the iPhone 8 were not weak, but stable... Kuo believes the market is negative on first weekend iPhone 8 sales because market analysts rely overmuch on observed sales momentum in unlocked/SIM-free channels such as the Apple Store, while overlooking sales momentum within carrier channels"

Not convinced. I know of a carrier that was shell-shocked by the lack of demand. Throughout the company they brought in extra staff as you'd expect, opened early, and stayed open late. There was pretty much no interest. People are waiting for the Notch Phone.

We have an iphone 8 at higher normal price and a X on an obscene higher price. There is no "cheaper".

Problem with the 8 is that it's not this years flagship, but simply a 7S in a glass shell with little to no practical benefits compared to the 7,
compound that with the fact that apple is selling the iPhone 7 for significantly less then the 8. If people decide to pass on the X, then they're looking at the 8 and I think some folks are moving on to the 7 instead given the price.

This is a perfect headline for "sarcastic coffee mug kid" and the army choirs of six-coloure :) At this point I just wonder how the X will do until February, March. Time and the investor calls will tell. Too bad they won't disclose sales numbers of individual models.

Smartphones have advanced to a point where your device isn't obsolete every year. In truth they work quite well for years. And there aren't enough new bells and whistles to get us so excited anymore. Just like laptops before them. Anyone get excited about the new MacBooks/laptops? Not so much. Why? Because even 3-year-old MBPs are still awesome.

Apple is doomed! We are all doomed!! But on a positive note, we complained for the freaks who used to camp outside the Apple Store before, we can complain the lack of them now.....don't you understand? We can always complain for totally meaningless things in life!! Life goes on and Apple is doomed since 2011!!!

Yeah this world sucks tbh. The things we complain about and are up in arms about are so ridiculous. People are so angry and bitter. Just be happy and enjoy yourself. Life is short.
