I understand the AirPods 2 still sell well. For the average consumer, the difference between AirPods 2 and 3 is close to nothing, but the price difference is significant. And they definitely won’t care that AirPods 3 comes with a USB-C cable instead of a USB-A cable, or that the AirPods 3 case has wireless charging.
I dunno AirPods 3 are a pretty big jump over the 2. I was considering buying them instead of the pro to upgrade from my dying original AirPods but the pro prices were so low over the holidays it made no sense to buy the 3s

His predictions have been absolute trash over the past couple years. Why keep giving this guy any press, other than not having much in the way of other stuff to publish? May as well give any random site member the same benefit for their own random predictions, as they're just as likely to get it right.

We need a follow up to the Powerbeats Pro. No, the Beats Fit Pro ain't it.

Audio differences (performance, Spatial Audio) between AirPods 2 and 3 are very significant, but to first time buyers, the differences are not apparent. It doesn't help that unlike computers, earphones aren't something most people would demo in person, especially in this living with coronavirus era.

And there are some segment of users who does not like how AirPods 3 fits in their ears.

Lossless audio support - take my money.

Lossless is the only feature I’d be looking for. Removable battery would be great but we know that’s not happening.
How about Apple actually makes the AirPod Pro's sound better before they start tacking Lossless? What's the point of having lossless capability when they're not even capable of reproducing it?

I could not figure out why spatial audio should exist until I started listening to lectures with it on. Being able to turn my head and lean in with one ear helps when I don't quite understand what is being said.

I'm still highly skeptical about the rumors these will get lossless support. It's impossible over Bluetooth. Apple would either need to use or invent a different technology.

AirPods 3 would've been great headphones to have launched at that price point in late 2019 along with the AirPods Pro.

I think that Apple miscalculated the pull of their brand and they feel like an overpriced product that was too late to market.
  • OK-ish ANC is now to be found in many sub £200 buds - but not the AP3.
  • Siri still isn't very good (even after 10 years), so having the best Siri integration on the market is hardly a selling point.
  • Spacial Audio whilst nice to have, still hasn't set the world on fire.
Finally: Would lots of people have bought the AirPods 3 at the higher price if the AirPods 2 had been discontinued?

I doubt it.

As for the APP2: Longer battery life would be great. As would better ANC.

Lossless Audio... OK, but I doubt that anyone using them in noisy environments will really be able to tell the difference. This seems like a better feature for headphones.

Haha, “product segmentation”… why not call it for what it is, a money grab. It’s already stair stepped 3x with Airpods, Pro, and Max. Bean counters like Tim Cook can’t help themselves with introducing more and more models cos they don’t see beauty in simplicity… they only see dollar signs with each model introduced.

Returned the third generation AirPods from my stepdaughter because they kept falling out of her ears and she didn’t like having to click to do functions. Swapped them out for the 2nd gen.
This is exactly why I haven't gotten the 3rd gens. I mainly use my AirPods biking and the squeeze controls are much harder to do than the tap gestures from gen 1/2.

While almost none of us would be able to tell lossless and high quality audio streams apart, if it can do it, why the heck not?

I would also love:
  • Redesigned in-ear silicone tips for improved comfort and stable fit
  • For non-noise cancelling use, non-in-ear tips that does not block the sound and feel more like non-Pro AirPods
  • Faster and more robust device switching, improved range, and more precise locations tracking (H2 and UWB)
  • Longer battery life
  • Better microphones
  • Improved Spatial Audio processing for more expansive soundstage
  • Controls on the charging case
  • More colors, at least black

Apple never keeps old "Pro" models around after introducing new Pro models. Any half-brained analyst would implicitly know that

The strategy of keeping last gen non-Pro models around has worked VERY well for iPhones

The more he tweets, the more I think he is a charlatin

iPad Pro 10.5" became iPad Air 3
MacBook Pro 13 remains after MacBook Pro 14

You're thinking small picture, Kuo's thinking big picture.

If they finally add lossless support (at least at 16/44.1) then they’ll be the first AirPods I’m actually interested in.

I would however be significantly more interested if Apple stopped preventing users from adding their personally owned FLAC files to the iOS music library. Apple Music isn’t a suitable replacement for my own collection. This plainly anti-consumer behavior only serves to make it more difficult to listen to my music on their devices, and thus hampers my enthusiasm to listen to any music on their devices.

My Airpods Pro are one of the best Apple products I've brought. The range via the H1 chip is just astonishing, walls, pillars, even multiple servers/computers don't affect the signal strength from my iphone. I'm a bit of an audiophile, and have to say that the Audio quality is very good considering they are wireless (lows, mids, highs, sub bass, dynamic range etc).

A someone who has a great pair of wired Sennheiser headphones that cost $160 15 years ago, and a very good pair of $99 BlueTooth LG earbuds connected to each other by a wire that I used to use when I was on the treadmill, I couldn't have imagined spending $249 on a pair of AirPods Pro, which I figured might sound marginally better than my LGs. It's not as if you can test them out in a store. My stepson got me a pair for Christmas, though, and I'm blown away. They sound as good as my Sennheisers, and they also have noise cancellation, adjustable transparency, spatial audio, and head tracking. Now I can't imagine how the next generation is going to be any better in terms of sound quality.

Demand for Airpods 3 is probably weak because the price difference between the Pros and the Airpods is marginal, and most people justify the small price increase for a pair of buds that are better in every way, shape and form. Airpods should have a lower price point. Make them cheaper and you'll get the marketshare from people who don't want to spend $150 on earbuds.

Not capable of reproducing lossless?

I’m not sure you understand what lossless actually means…

Beats Fit Pro are a totally superior form factor.

My AirPod Pros feel sketchy walking around the city now - there really is nothing holding them in.

AirPod Pro and Beats Fit Pro should really be the same unified product.
- Upgraded chip
- Rubber Mini ear hooks
