People should have known that 2020 will be the major upgrade. Anyone who thought 2019 was going to be big was setting themselves up for disappointment
It was not a major upgrade before this story. Now it’s half of a minor upgrade. Disappointing if true—Kuo has a solid track record.

I must be getting older, the iPhone releases just aren’t the same as they used to be for some reason.
I’ll buy the new phone this year, as I’ve been doing since the 3GS. But I have to agree. These keynotes no longer have that “night before Christmas morning” levels of excitement we had back in 2010 or 2012 or 2014.

And it’s not because Apple sucks. It’s just that we were being introduced to technology that was still so brand new to us. We’re at the point where improvements will come at a more gradual pace.

I imagine a comprable sense of awe was felt during the time that color TV was introduced to the world. Now they’re just TVs to us and nobody bats an eye over them.

Rumor or not I am becoming disappointed with Apple. The features they used to announce used to be revolutionary.

I for one had high hopes they would retire lightning for USB-C and they would include bilateral charging. These days, if you want innovation you look to android devices.

But they do have snazzy credit card (insert eye-roll)

We will see in one day. I'm holding out for a smaller phone in the spring. The return of the iPhone SE!

If they follow the unsaid rule of fours (4, 4s, 5, 5s) and (6, 6s, 7, 8), next year could be the last iteration year for this current form factor (X, XS, 11, 12?) and the introduction of the new form factor together with the 12 like the 8 came with the X.
Why are you grouping the 4 and 5s?

I’m not sure how I feel about the bilateral charging, as this was the only reason I bought the new AirPods with the wireless charging case. Even if the feature has an impact on the battery life, I guess it is always handy to have it and just use it if you want to. I was really excited for the iPhone X keynote, then, last year, was meh, as expected, but still upgraded to XS Max for the bigger screen. Based on the rumours, it seems like the new iPhone will be even more minor update than what Xs was. We will know tomorrow, but it’s kinda sad...

I’m not surprised it’s another “s” year. So much r&d for a new design and to always come out with a new model when the smartphone market is mature and people are generally satisfied with their current devices doesn’t seem to be the smart move.

so what is bilateral charging? charging screen down?
Your phone can charge another wireless device when not plugged in, and yes presumably face down or on top of the facedown device. Probably the least efficient way to use a mobile battery. So much energy is wasted with inductive charging it’s really a gimmick.

So the only change is the cameras all the other fluff like faster cpu we don’t need, so really this pro upgrade is just a better camera, I’m upset I wanted something wow that the leaks didn’t say, so better cameras and slightly better Face ID and 3D Touch gone, what’s the point in this phone my hype has been ruined
[doublepost=1568071995][/doublepost]I pray the wireless charging is upgraded like Samsung 15w if it’s the same 7.5 slow charge it’s gonna annoy me, this keynote is gonna be short, nothing pro about an iPhone with slightly better cameras

They keynote won’t be short. I watched the 2018 one and boy was it boring. Game demos, stats you don’t care about, apple services they want to sell you, the videos, the demos of stuff nobody cares. The actual phone and watch part may be an hour max.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. I was hoping 2019 would bring something interesting, but you are right not to expect something big..... With these updates described, it could have just released it via a website info. Meanwhile Samsung is gambling with the two folding phone.. which is innovation in my books (albeit risky)

But people need to understand there are benefits of minor update.... You get to avoid "----gate" situations or you are holding it wrong. First edition are always a bit more risky, as Samsung knows!

That being said, when I update my phone next month, it better not come with an exploding battery!

Aww man...I hope they’re wrong about the two way charging being scrapped. It was actually the biggest thing making me wanna upgrade from my XR. I dunno if an extra camera will be enough. Maybe I’ll just have to wait till the 2020 iPhone comes out. ‍♂️

I consider reverse charge a big fat gimmick.

How/when (% of your usage) will you benefit from that? It would be so odd that it saves me from a ______ situation

True.
Apple should start pulling back on price then. Apple wants the price to be high and only offer small upgrades. Maybe if consumers continue to slow down upgrading they will be forced to change. We seemly reaching diminishing return on yearly upgrades.

Somewhat ironic that Apple is introducing technology that has been traditionally used to to locate lost keys and wallets, while simultaneously trying to make keys and wallets obsolete. I carry all the cards I need in my iPhone case and my wallet basically lives in a hidden compartment in my bag. I always know where it is. My keys on the other hand are still traditional and I’ll be slapping an Apple “Tile” on them ASAP!

They need to put a tile on Apple innovation. It's been missing for years.

The only thing I was waiting for was two-ways wireless charging and that's so I can charge my Apple Watch and AirPods whenever I want. Says so much about my excitement for the new iPhones vs Apple Watch 5.

Not that the iPhone sucks or Apple is doomed, it is just that I am content with my XR.
I love the XR,,I may buy the XS PRO( or whatever they call it) for the Camera

When Samsung and Huawei change nothing but the camera and the camera
People: There’s innovation right here!
When Apple do so, along with changing the internals of the iPhone
People: Boo! No innovation!
