If they follow the unsaid rule of fours (4, 4s, 5, 5s) and (6, 6s, 7, 8), next year could be the last iteration year for this current form factor (X, XS, 11, 12?) and the introduction of the new form factor together with the 12 like the 8 came with the X.
So far, all rumors are pointing to a redesign of the iPhone.

If this is true, I'll be curious to see what Apple announces to entice people to upgrade from the current XS line.. For me, it would have been something as simple as moving from the Lightning port to USB-C, since it is currently a huge hassle when I take my 2019 IPad Pro with me and have to have to different chargers, cables, etc.
You could use one charger but yes would need two cables.

Great year to sit this one out. Perhaps a marginal upgrade to iPhone X and older users with the camera upgrades. Most of the excitement this year will be around new Apple TV hardware since my ATV4 is getting long in the tooth and the new iPad Pros. Wife uses a 12.9 1st Gen for most of her photo editing and it’s beginning to show some age.
From everything I've read on the new iPad Pros, they're also nothing more than camera upgrades. They're getting the same 3 camera system as the iPhone 11 Pro

Looks like a hard pass. Which means the “s” revision most likely will be a pass too. Good thing is most people really don’t need to upgrade your iPhone that often anymore. Maybe every 3-4 years for most folks, IMHO.

Wonder how Apple is going to try to make this sound exciting. Or maybe they won’t, and it’s all about the services and other products. Time will tell...
Lower case 's'.

Sept 2020 will be here soon enough.

Wow!!!

Shocking amount of negativity here!

I’m typing this on my iPhone XS Max...which just so happens to be a mind-bendingly awesome phone!!!

How in the world could they make it any nicer?

Oh ya...BIG camera upgrades, brighter screen, improved haptics, improved battery life, improved speakers, faster processor, better Face ID.

That’s what I expect to see. Do I need any of it? Of course not. But I’m super excited and will buy one!

No on device USB-C port. Too bad - I was looking forward to being able to share with my IPP charger when traveling.
But think of all the gazillions of great lightning accessories that would become obsolete! I hope they have a slick converter for the day that happens. I dread having to toss my Shure lightning mic for example.

So effectively, bumps for the iPhone, Watch... and TV. I hope this doesn’t hurt AAPL.
AAPL buying opportunity.

And that's what people should do; don't buy these warmed over upgrades; put $1000 into the stock; by this time next year you'll have a nice profit. While the iPhones are getting boring, Apple services are doing fine and will keep Wall Street happy.

I feel that users are going to slow down on upgrading regardless of how good the iPhone is at any rate. As such, I understand why Apple is moving from selling iPhones to selling to people with iPhones.

In this regard, I find that Apple’s current strategy of charging higher prices, and offering more accessories and services makes absolute sense, even if the critics here may not accept or like it.

The current pace of iPhone development seems in line with fostering a 3-4 year upgrade cycle. Maybe that makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy in a sense, but it is what it is.
I agree with your general premise but at the same token there's only so much Apple can raise the price before consumers say enough is enough. Even when it's time to upgrade they probably won't because don't see the value for the price that they're paying.

I think there’s a lack of imagination on everyone’s part about what the R1 chip might be capable of and what neat software magic they triple might Cook up for that triple lens.

The only thing I was waiting for was two-ways wireless charging and that's so I can charge my Apple Watch and AirPods whenever I want. Says so much about my excitement for the new iPhones vs Apple Watch 5.

Not that the iPhone sucks or Apple is doomed, it is just that I am content with my XR.

Watch charging isn't going to happen. If Apple could not make a charging pad work, they won't try with a phone.

I have some bad news for you.

That processor may not actually be any faster in multicore performance, and maybe only 10% faster in single core.

Also it's likely that the wide angle camera will be of significantly poorer quality than the main camera and lack OIS.

Right! So, for this “By Innovation Only” event, we’re getting:

-an iPhone XS with another camera tacked on to the back and a faster processor
-new Apple Watch colors
-Tile but 2x as expensive and worse compatibility

Sorry but no matter how you put it this is not innovation.

I am sort of expecting Apple to blow our minds with something entirely unexpected, because Jesus, it simply cannot be that this is the best they can do in a year.

When I travel, I need to charge all my devices overnight, so one Chertsey wouldn't work for my anyway.

Right now I use an Anker multiport usb-a charger to charge 6 devices at 10 w each.

I disagree. I have to admit that there is a lot of improvements in the Android world and iPhones are getting boring. For quite a few years I can clearly expect what Apple is gonna come up with.
Unfortunately my iPhone 7plus home button died and Apple wants 400USD for the replacement as they claim they need to replace the whole screen. So I will be forced to buy a new phone this year.
The stubbornness of keeping lightning is getting to me a bit as I have to carry special cable for the phone as MBP and iPad Pro are USBC. That makes no sense to me. Also if they keep 5W charger on XRm2 than that is just plain ridiculous. Im sorry but how cheap can you be. Im actually will consider Android. First time from when I had Nokia and switched to original iPhone...
Bummer about the 7+. I'm nursing mine 1 more year. Living with the Assistive Touch software home button for a year would be tough.

I still think bilateral is coming. How accurate is this person? I mean they moved the logo to.coincide with the placement.

One more day.

What a bummer that this years iphone may not have a USB-C port.

My iPad Pro, camera, GoPro, portable SSD, and headphones all use USB-C

If these rumor hold true, I might go to the Note 10+ to give it a one year test drive. Skip this crap. My XS Max is looking for an upgrade this year.
