Finally, we get details from Kuo and hopefully Gurman later. Without the the supply chain info from Kuo, none of the previous leaks made sense.

This confirms it's not an Ultra model as many of us suspected. It's basically a slot in for Plus, but probably with a $100 or $200 bump.

The big news is Apple expects to use it's own 5G modem rather than Qualcomm's.
After the debacle with intel, I would rather not spend top dollar to get an inferior device (and let's be honest, nobody matches qualcomm in this space).

Single rear camera and super thin? Maybe Apple has invented a super thin folding lens. :D

I'm still not seeing how this device is to be priced more than the pro max. Like the mental gymnastics apple is going to have to pull to convince people to pay more FOR LESS is wild. This seems like it should be replacing the plus model and be priced as such.

Kuo implies that it won't be in his first sentence. It'll be priced somewhere below high-end.

So they released a mini because there was a vocal minority (myself included) clamoring for it. It failed sales wise.
They plan to release this "slim" model because nobody is clamoring for it at a higher price = spectacular sales? Huh?

The iPhone team probably looked at the sales of AVP and decided to focus on weight and form factor, rather than betting on something that's looking to be a disaster.
There are plenty of options and possibilities designwise out there. It’s about time for Apple to do something better designwise now. Next year will be too late. Especially in the Chinese market but probably everywhere.

Won’t be the first time Apple deprioritizes thermals, structural integrity, or even functionality in the pursuit of a thinner form factor, and it’s a mistake every time they’ve done it. I am not saying Apple can’t have thinner products with great thermals, integrity, and functionality. What I’m saying is when Apple puts form above all else, their products suffer. I hope that if these rumors pan out, Apple finds a good balance of form and function which has a somewhat logical price point, even if you have to squint to see it.

It would be super cool if it’s supported the Apple Pencil.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that:

Mini existed solely as a $699 gateway product to Apple's 5G iPhone lineup. The iPhone 11 was $699 and the iPhone 12 was $799 ($829 if you removed the carrier discount).

Pro and Pro Max prices will almost certainly increase by 2025 due to thew new form factor.

Slim seems to be aimed at increasing the price of a Plus sized display, with a new form factor as justification.

iPhone replacement cycles are getting longer and longer. Apple needs a way to increase ASP to make up for the stagnant shipment units.

This is pretty disappointing, but might be a great product anyway.

I'm trying to remember when something with a premium design came out and was priced above higher spec models with an older design. 2015 Retina MacBook? The first MacBook Air? I seem to remember the smaller iPods were always priced lower, with much less storage. The recent iPad Pros are supposedly the first products with this new thin design language, but they fully replaced the older design in the lineup, and this rumor says the Pro phones will stick around.

I want thin, but also want a good camera system, so hoping this somehow provided both.

It won’t cost more than the 17 Pro Max. You guys need to chill out. My guess is it will start at $999.

The appeal will be a larger iPhone that is crazy thin and light. And yes, people will buy it.
