What's not to understand about Apple's new cheap expensive flagship entry-level phone?
I keep waiting for this thing to make sense, and so far... I got nothin' lol
But every rumor so far has suggested it'll be the new high end model. And one of the prior reports said it would have lower specs but a higher price.
I like it how we are getting all of those "exciting" news about iPhone 17.
Meanwhile, we are all expecting that iPhone 16 will be meh, yes?
CPU's and Modems are two very different things. CPU's are a dime a dozen (hence why there are so many companies who make them). How many modem producers are there? If this were CPU's I would 100% say apple will match it, but it has yet to be done so clearly it is much more challenging than doing CPU's (not to mention clearly the engineers they got from Intel can't figure it out or they would have done it years ago- like rumors said).Until they do. It was very recent when the same could be said of Intel’s CPUs
I'm still not seeing how this device is to be priced more than the pro max. Like the mental gymnastics apple is going to have to pull to convince people to pay more FOR LESS is wild. This seems like it should be replacing the plus model and be priced as such.
The analyst added that while there will not be an iPhone 17 Plus, the new ultra-thin model will not be a replacement for it....
With no A19 Pro chip, a single camera, a slightly smaller display than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and a focus on design over specifications, it sounds like the ultra-thin model will not be the so-called highest-end "iPhone 17 Ultra" after all. It is now unclear exactly where the device will be positioned in the iPhone 17 lineup...
We all remember what happened to him immediately after saying this too.Reminds me of Jurassic Park when the kid had the night goggles on and the lawyer asked him if it was heavy and he said yes. Lawyer then said that means it’s expensive. Nowadays it’s reversed.
It was certainly easier but I think having choice and more price points is a good thing but they still need to clean it up a littleI really liked when there was only one iPhone available.
14 is 12SS and 15 is new design though. Here's how I see it:
iPhone X (new design)
iPhone XS
iPhone 11 = XSS
iPhone 12 (new design)
iPhone 13 = 12S
iPhone 14 (new design)
iPhone 15 = 14S
iPhone 16 = 14SS
iPhone 17 (new design)
So yeah, the 16 is going to be like the 11 in being a revision of a revision. For the "S" lover like me, it's a must-buy.![]()
Well there is no doubt in my mind that the product goal here is "a more expensive iPhone". Tim Cook has gone off the deep end in my opinion, and has steered Apple so far away from the product goals that made it a runaway success and growth machine in the mid-to-late 2000's. Tim Cook has been running a continuous social experiment for the last 5 or 6 cycles, to see what their brand loyalty can convince people to pay for something (mostly iPhone). Steadily moving that iPhone ASP higher and higher. And it has been working. Some might say this is just a CEO of a massive company doing his job by increasing revenue and growth by any means necessary. Others would say this a divergence from the mindset that Steve Jobs put in place, which was to prioritize the products and the customer, and the sales and loyalty will come with it. (and they did).Sounds like a very expensive device, no matter where it's positioned.
"Ultra-Thin" = "Ultra Expensive"
What's wrong with having options? Apple has 5 current iPhone models: Pro Max, Pro, Plus, 15, SE. Apple also sells some older models (14 Plus, 14, and 13), but while you can buy then new from Apple, they are not updated phones like the current ones (the SE might be getting updated if rumors are true, so I'm including it with the other 4). If this rumor is true and if the rumors that Apple is dropping the Plus model, it looks like there will still be 5 current models. That's not a lot.I really liked when there was only one iPhone available.
