Anyone else thinking about getting the iPhone X on a discount vs the less expensive model?

If you’re Referring to the 2017 iPhone X discount, that likely may not be sold from Apple directly anymore once they announce the 2018 iPhone X, which will likely replace that current X. The Only way you would be able to purchase the 2017 iPhone X is through any third party retailers that will be clearing out inventory, but if Apple announces the 2018 iPhone X at a cheaper price point Starting at $899.00, then I would just up for the 2018 iPhone X, which would still have the higher specs.

I’ve recently seen advertised a supposedly non-invasive glucose monitoring device you just place on your arm. I don’t have any info on it other than "most insurance plans will cover it". I have a series 0 watch which still gives me all I bought it for so have no interest in upgrading now. But a non invasive glucose monitoring capability would have me saving my dollars for one that does that.

That device is either snake oil, or you misunderstood the ad.

There is tech in the pipeline that is non invasive. Science.

Science? Name one paper that actually shows this working.

I think you could be right, i use to be dead against this until i tried out a Surface Pro in store and it really good, it surprised me how much i liked it. MacOS is still better than Windows i think, but for getting work done and having a better keyboard than the ASK the Surface Pro or even Surface Book 2 is miles better.

For example i'm a writer spending hours in front of my computer, i tried using the ASK and it just didn't work for what i need, the Surface Pro keyboard in store had much better feel, travel and a trackpad! the added bonus is that i can detach the screen from the keyboard and draw, handwrite and take notes directly on the screen. I really like the iPad Pro but it's time for it too grow up and become more like a FULL laptop replacement, at the moment it risks losing me to the Surface Pro when Microsoft announce the Surface Pro 5/6 or whatever they decide to call the next one.

another point is that for the cost of the iPad Pro with ASK and Apple Pencil you can easily buy a Surface Pro.

"The Surface Pro "6" -- a.k.a., the next major update to the Surface Pro two-in-one -- is codenamed "Carmel," Sams says. I've heard this device isn't coming until mid-2019 and will be heavily redesigned."

Because the male Lightning connector is the only one small enough to keep the diameter of the Pencil as thin as they wanted it. A female USB-C port would increase the Apple Pencil's overall size too much for most people.

If my Pencil is low on battery, I simply plug it into my iPad Pro now and let it charge. It looks a little weird, but that's about it.

The two connectors types are very similar in overall size. I doubt most people would even notice to be honest.

Hmm, a MacBook with Touch ID sans Touch Bar actually sounds great!

Why not skip TouchID and adopt FaceID instead? The more FaceID sensors produced and the demand will only have the adoption increase for apps and Apple Pay. Why does it seem that on Mac hardware we are now getting TouchID and the forward thinking USB-C and on iOS devices we are getting FaceID and Lightening.

If Apple seems dedicated to FaceID, incorporate that into the Mac hardware as well. Oh I get it, that will be the eventual Mac hardware incorporation to urge users to upgrade. Way to milk the hardware features Apple.

Ligtning should have been sun-setted in 2016 when the USB-C/TB-3 MacBook Pro was released. If you're going to have a connector interface at all, it should be USB-C and should support the USB 3.1 G2 data rate. Thinness of a phone is a meaningless spec unless you can do it double the current charge time, with any thickness increase devoted to a larger battery. Either move to USB-C or get rid of the connector completely in to make the phone and pad lines more water water resistant.

Really hope they actually release the new MacBook's on Wednesday, but I'm still thinking they will split the announcement's between this week and October. I'll wait till December or January before I buy anything I think (for tax purposes) but I'm probably in for the new 6.1 iPhone (I just can't stomach spending $1,000 on a phone) if the reviews are favorable. Coming from my iPhone 6S+, I have a feeling it will feel like an upgrade. My next laptop will be the new MacBook as long as it's got a better screen than the current MacBook air's. (It's my second computer, my first is my amazing iMac 5k which is still fast as hell and I love it and I'm typing on it as we speak.) I'm also in for AirPods and if it's sub $200 maybe that air mat.

Also, my personal hope is that the new mac os has better dictation. I use Dragon a lot, and apple dictation is very close to being as good, but it's not there. If it is, that would save me $15 a month I pay for dragon anywhere.

Cook is an operations guy not a "vision guy." Even though great operations lead to great profits, no vision will ultimately lead to Apple spiraling downward. You need both types of people. Jobs and Cook made a great team.

People have been saying this ever since Cook took over in 2011...you know, back when Apple's market cap had just hit $300B...

Intel is not announcing 9th Generation CPUs until October...we will not be hearing about iMacs before Intel announces the CPUs that will be going into them.

So either Apple holds a keynote in October/November or they announce the “anniversary” iMac through a press release.

None of these seems likely.

Cook's expertise has always been supply chain management. If anyone, it'd be Ive that has the vision in the post-Jobs era. Not Cook.

The market is also presently overvalued. I wonder what the true valuation would be with the correction of the market being overvalued. Honest question. Or if we correct for inflation measures are these 1 trillion valuation companies on the stock market truly the correct representation.

Press release is looking more likely at this point, depending on just what rolls out the doors on Wednesday. I can see Apple doing that for these iMacs. There's nothing so earth-shaking that has to be rolled out in an event. They'll tout the number of cores and such, but the form factor is not changing and the GPU is not changing, so one updated feature, however large, and a few minor feature updates isn't likely to be enough for them to hold an event, unless they bundle the MacBook and Mac mini updates into that event as well to announce their re-commitment to the Mac and macOS.

Apple is not really sentimental about the Mac lineup, so "Anniversay" iMac does not mean much to them under the current leadership.

ECG makes the Series 4 an instant buy for me. Time to prepare to sell my Series 2.

Same here. Apple trade-in will give me $175 for my Space Black S2, but thinking I can get 250 or more if I sell it privately. Hmmm.

Do people actually charge their pencils from their iPad? I’ve never done this, always use a charger and the pencil included female/female adapter. I could only see the use of charging directly from the iPad if I was isolated form using a wall or power bank charger.

I only charge from my iPad, didn’t know there was any other way.

It's just a bit weird to me because there hasn't been a single part leak....I cant remember the last time a new computer came out without a leak in advance, or renders...

Not through Apple but I'm assuming the carriers will have stock left over. I've always been on the latest and greatest iPhone bandwagon but I'm honestly not caring that much anymore. I'll see what comes out and make a decision from there.

Maybe i’m wrong but this last rumor on a new MacBook killed any hope I had of Apple coming out with a new laptop that doesn’t inherit all the terrible design choices that the ultra-thin MacBook brought and that were later moved to the “pro” lineup: a “form over function” philosophy that resulted in ultra slim designs at the sacrifice of power, battery life, ports and keyboard usability.
I was hoping this next MacBook Air would be a change of direction, an opportunity to review and fix previous mistakes, now it looks like the MacBook was since the beginning intended as a trailblazer for this new messed up laptop lineup, and Apple’s idea for a new cheap laptop will be another crippled, overpriced, single port, underpowered toy with a terrible keyboard.
Sad to see the competition smashing Apple at his own game, with brands like Huawei coming out with wonders like the Matebook X Pro, while MacOS users are forced to come to huge compromises if not willing to switch to Windows.

Right, as I mentioned third-party retailers might have the 2017 X available for a limited time , but Apple will likely not if they replace it with 2018 iPhone X. But personally, it really depends on where Apple prices this new 2018 iPhone X and how carriers will discount the 2017 iPhone X, but the 2018 iPhone X might be the better buy _if_ Apple prices the 2018 X $100 lower based on what analysts are saying.

The 2018 iPhone X slated to start at $899, where as the 2017 iPhone X would likely decrease $100 to $899, because that starts right now at $999 for the 2017 model.

Lightning is proprietary, owned by Apple. Every product based on Lightning delivers money to Apple.

USB3C is standard, not owned by Apple. Everything USB3C does not necessarily deliver any money to Apple.

Fans will happily take and evangelize WHATEVER Apple wants to offer: Apple's choice is always right for everyone, no matter what it takes to make that choice work well (even if that begs for upwards of multiple dongles, etc). Just buy new cables, dongles, accessories, etc.

Average Joe typically doesn't think about the detail that is the connector. It's like thinking about the shoe laces instead of the shoes... or the windshield wipers instead of the car.

Put yourself in Apple's shoes... the modern-day Apple's shoes. Do you jettison (easy money flows) Lightning for USB3C? IMO, with the (especially) modern incarnation of Apple, just make any issue a question about the money. The most profitable option is likely Apple's choice.

My guess? When Lightning has pretty much run it's course, Apple will roll out smaller/"thinner" Lightning 2 rather than adopting whatever USB has to offer at the time. Think of history: Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 to 30-pin to Lightning. Throughout all of that, Apple could adopt the USB standards in place at the time. But Apple almost always chooses proprietary. There's much more money for Apple in proprietary.

Too fragile and not waterproof enough for the iPhone. Plus Apple just switched the headphone jack to Lightning, so that would mean a USB-C to Lightning female dongle in the box. There just is no point right now...the iPad Pros support USB 3 Power Delivery and transfer speeds in the 10.5" and 12.9" from mid-2017 and the original 12.9" iPad Pro from 2015.

I think Lightning is a pretty safe bet in all iOS devices for a few more years. I do think we will see a Lightning to USB-C cable and USB-C charger in all iOS devices released on Wednesday, however.
