...and the wise ones are waiting for the smart people to buy Ivy Bridge MBPs and see what if any problems they have before buying.

and the genius ones are waiting the wise people that are waiting the smart people to buy there Ivy MBPs and get them 2hand:cool:

I am not surprised by this but I think there are several causes. Part of this is the iPad cannibalizing Mac sales (why update your Mac when the new iPad does so much, browses the web, plays games, etc, perfectly fine?) and part of it is the lack of exciting hardware updates. Every Mac geek I know, myself included, is anxiously awaiting MacBook Air and major MacBook Pro updates. I'll be the first to upgrade when a retina Mac comes along, or when a MacBook Air with 8GB RAM is offered, and I know many other people feel the same way.

The iPad also allows for longer hardware cycles for Macs. Instead of updating a Mac every year, we can skip a year or two and update the iPad instead to cover the casual tasks and offload mundane tasks to iOS hardware. This gives us all the luxury of waiting for big purchases until there's something we really want, like a slimmer MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air with retina and 8GB RAM and a waffle iron, or the Mac Pro, whatever floats your boat.

I just told someone to hold off on an Air purchase for the update. They can wait as it is simply an upgrade of an existing functional laptop.

I'm not sure how the iPad is a replacement for upgraded Macs though. For the Desktop, if you have some functionality concerns with your current rig, assuming that rig is no more than five years old, it is still more powerful than the iPad. I just can't see someone looking at a 4 year old iMac, thinking gee this just doesn't have what I need, and then decide to get an iPad.

Now for laptops that is a different story. But still you have to have a functioning real computer at home. If you laptop still works fine, then it is still probably more powerful than the iPad.

I think more likely is that people use their computers to surf the web and send email and the laptops and desktops that were sold in the last five years still do that perfectly fine. Eventually upgrade paths are going to either lengthen or the price of upgrading needs to go down. Marginal improvements to websurfing and email writing aren't going to sell new desktops.

On the power user side, we know the answer. The Mac Pro refresh hasn't come out. There will be sales when that happens.

A+ for clever extension of previous idea. F for execution of sentence.

Worry,worry,worry!

Gammon and Spinach!
Coming MBP in MBA disguise, new 11",13" and 15" MBA, new iMac's, iPhone 5, AND a stock heading for $1000/share:eek:
PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER! He who waits for the future WILL BE REWARDED!
With Apple, you need to be in for the long run, for the ride, laugh at the haters, doubters, be patient, reap the rewards;)

windows 8

I think a lot of people are liking what they are seeing with WIndows 8. I know I am.

Besides lately it seems like Apple is more focused on iOS then OSX.

The lack of updates on the mac pro is utterly pathetic. Lots of professionals are holding on buying this model which is essentially 1 1/2 yrs old... And that is being generous, that model is really a few years old if you don't count minor CPU upgrades and swapping out graphics cards.

It's really sad that apple doesn't have a midrange tower lots of us want that doesn't have iMac form

Also lots are expecting touchscreen monitors

As for MacBooks, there will be no Air or Pro, just a spectrum of sizes to choose from.

Its too bad hackintoshing is the only way to get what we want.....
I don't like the imac.... it has a mobile gpu....
guess the biggest beef is the imacs have great screens. screens like that don't go obsolete as fast as the cpu and gpu...:(

Apple, please update soon so we can all be "Feelin' so fly like a G6...like a G6, like a G6...Feelin' so fly like a G6"

Introducing the new 24-core Power Macintosh G6 with cyberkinetics and motion-sensor controlling, a spacious 500 Petabyte solid-state array and a beefy 768 Terabytes of RAM -- in a liquidmetal Frogdesign™ special edition case.

That is quite obvious

that the new macbook will be released just with the arrival of mac OSX Mountain Lion, and having it on board.

they need to hurry up and release. i need to see how craptacular the intel hd 4000 chips are. I already know they will be crap. its the level of crap that concerns me.

I'm waiting...

I'm still waiting for either a new MBA or a slimmer MBP... THE MBP that I have right now is too heavy... I have eliminated most of my textbooks by going through kindle for my textbook needs...

Apple hasn't made money off me personally since 2005 when I bought their PowerBook G4. It's worked for me fine since then.

I'll gladly hand over another $1500 when they redesign the MacBook Pro. By this time 7 years ago I was hoping for MacBook Hologram. Basically, I won't pay for a new computer that's basically the same [5.6lbs and form factor] as the PowerBook I'm using now.

I tried Windows 8 on my 12-Core Mac Pro, hated it. It was the oddest feeling OS I have ever used. The tile/grid just felt so awkward and unintuitive. While I dislike OS X "Lion" I hated Windows 8, while Windows 7 performs very well. I'm still using "Snow Leopard" and with my contacts, calendars and mail [finally] syncing 100% with my iCloud account I have no plans to upgrade (unless "Mountain Lion" proves to be a less resource hungry and efficient system with a 10.5/6 Expose/Spaces fix).

As for the Mac Pro, aside from Thunderbolt (which I don't see a purpose for until it matures to fiber optics), it certainly needs an update for those waiting to upgrade. My current gen will hold me well for at least 1-2 more years. Although if Apple revamps it into a smaller form factor with Thunderbolt attaching graphics and HDD's a la server style, and one Thunderbolt cable feeding my HID's and display from a tucked away place, that might be interesting.

...oh, and a dedicated display line worthy of the three CCFL LCD's once offered instead of a stripped down iMac LED LCD with short cables would be nice... and retina :)...

(Random thought, anyone else notice that "Snow Leopard" has iOS 5 style buttons - rounded - while "Lion" has iOS 4 style - rectangular - in some places?)

I don't get it, the laptops aren't ready for a refresh for at least 3 to 6 months and that is 75% of the Mac sales. Can't believe that slower iMacs and Mac Pro updates have such an influence on the overall Mac sales.

Maybe Apple just ran out of gullible fools...?

You may be correct! People who follow Apple on forums like this one know that it would be foolish to buy a Mac right now. Now matter how great it is it's going to get its clock cleaned in a couple of months or so. Why pay full retail for last year's products? With the exception of the rare person who needs to replace a Mac right now today only the gullible would place an order now.
