Maybe Apple will give the Mini the power it should have with Steve out of the picture?
It really should be just a headless iMac with the same innards

I bought an early 2011 refresh, so I won't be buying this soon. But even I'm excited for the new Macs!

The lack of updates really has been dramatic. I guess blame intel for their very slow chip development. But these days, if apple an update without a new processor, that's reasonable to do. The processing power is so far ahead of most of the other elements of the computer already that ivy bridge vs sandy bridge isn't even going to be noticeable for most people.

It is never enough for the greedy folks on wall street. Always wanting more and more so we consumers have to spend more and more.
Apple is going to go down in flames in a few years. All them brick and mortar stores are just to increase sales of a few products that continually need to wow. What happens when wow stops? Really, they better brace for a crash in a few years.

How much do you want to bet they will die in a few years? I'm willing to bet that they won't. You call them "greedy" just because they are trying to get you to buy their product? Sorry, if you don't want it, don't buy it :p

Oh, and in case you didn't know, APPLE IS BASED IN SILICON VALLEY, not Wall St.

It would help if Apple would let us know what is to be expected and when. Not knowing has obviously affected sales.

It's the opposite. Not knowing means nerds and geeks can't tell their friends and family to wait another month or two to buy a Mac. Those people will just blindly go buy a new system AND BE HAPPY with it regardless of when new systems come out.

Most people don't care about this crap and I seriously doubt these figures are correct. The more people Apple can get into their stores for iPods, iPhones and iPads the more opportunities they have to sell Macs. And last quarter was HUGE by any measure. Meaning those people (that are never considered in polls) will come back and buy a Mac at some other point.

Everyday I see more and more Apple devices including laptops. I don't think Apple has to worry. Apple releases products throughout the year and usually staggers between Mac and iOS.

----------

I think a lot of people are liking what they are seeing with WIndows 8. I know I am.

So... You didn't get the memo?

This is no surprise. Apple has made it clear this is the "post PC era" and they have turned their attention to mobile devices. I don't blame them, thats where all their money is coming from. Certainly not from desktops and laptops where MS still dominates.

Victim of its own success

I believe we are beginning to see the cannibalization of the notebook PC market (both Mac and Windows) by the tablet (Apple sells more tablets than most other companies' combined sales of desktops and notebooks). As tablets become more powerful, I expect this trend to continue.

Holding off for new macbook pro and mac pro. Hoping to get them both this year.

I'm going to have to get a new desktop (Mac Pro) this year...I'm hoping that it can still be an Apple one.

Come on Apple, I'm still waiting for my PowerBook G5! :rage: ;D

I still have a 12" G4 Powerbook that's not technically been retired - - it just sits idle a lot since we got an iPad1. Even the desktop Mac too, since it isn't at one's fingertips next to the TV.

...I'm not sure how the iPad is a replacement for upgraded Macs though. For the Desktop...Now for laptops that is a different story. But still you have to have a functioning real computer at home. If you laptop still works fine, then it is still probably more powerful than the iPad.

I think more likely is that people use their computers to surf the web and send email and the laptops and desktops that were sold in the last five years still do that perfectly fine. Eventually upgrade paths are going to either lengthen or the price of upgrading needs to go down. Marginal improvements to websurfing and email writing aren't going to sell new desktops.

It really isn't about power .. its about convenience.

On the power user side, we know the answer. The Mac Pro refresh hasn't come out. There will be sales when that happens.

I'd preorder a Mac Pro this week, if there was a price list with specs.

that the new macbook will be released just with the arrival of mac OSX Mountain Lion, and having it on board.

I agree, Snow Leopard was better. I don't like being on old operating systems when applications require the newer version. I am trying to deal with Lion.

Two sides of the same coin: it is nice (for Apple) to have new hardware ship with the new OS .. but from a continuity of operations perspective for those of us who do some heavy lifting with our machines, the timing of an OS update can be a delicate dance in conjunction with a list of our critical software applications.

The lack of updates really has been dramatic. I guess blame intel for their very slow chip development. But these days, if apple an update without a new processor, that's reasonable to do. The stool has three legs. You named the "Power" one, and the next one is "Competition" which motivates Intel to up the ante...and AMD isn't strong at all in the CPU game right now. Finally, the third leg is "Economy" which gives the customers the means (money) and motive (customers) to drive the demand for and the resources with which to go buy the upgrades. With the huge 2008 downturn, Intel could afford to pull way back on pushing out products that customers weren't going to be clambering to buy .. which is why we're "stuck" at <4GHz still; rolling that out last year would have lead to customer expectations that it should be cheap by 2012, etc.

Others like me don't really care that much about performance increase and are waiting for one the following:
1) MacBook Air with bigger screen (15-inch) and more storage (512GB)
2) MacBook Pro without an optical drive (lighter) and with a flash storage option (ala MacBook Air)
3) Buying the current MacBook Air or Pro model now, just before a major update means that your machine will get obsolete that much faster, which is a problem if you like to use your Mac for more than a couple of years

Others, equally smart or smarter are buying the current models. They don't care about a MBAir - there are Mac Books with 15" and 17" screens, and ample storage on tap right now...

Green Zoom Button Behavior

Option in System Preferences to set Green Zoom button to Window Maximize - (Window fills screen except for Dock). As it stands now it is up to each developer how this function works therefore the behavior is very inconsistent.
Second most frequent complaint I receive from Windows switchers.

Client Comment:

"I have looked at the iMac carefully, as my kids have one at home. Even though I'd like to switch to Apple, I find two issues with the Mac unacceptable for my purposes .

The inability to fully maximize a program is irritating, as I am used to doing that regularly. Also the cursor movements with the mouse are too jerky. Unfortunately these 2 features will force me to continue down the Microsoft OS path."

LOL

Green zoom (maximize) does not mean the same thing in OS X as it does in Windows. Trying and hoping it does is just stupid. Green button (maximize) HAS ALWAYS (since system 1.0 in 1984) meant maximize window to fit content, not to fill screen.

If your clients are so used to Windows, why in the hell are they using a Mac? Who's idea was that? Do they also bitch about there being no Start menu, or Internet Explorer? Perhaps you should EDUCATE them rather than blame their ignorance?

Maybe you're as dumb as they are for assuming Windows and Mac OS X are the same OS and they should operate in the same manner? ANY new system you move to will have differences. Trying to force your old ways on something new and being shocked that they don't work is retarded. But I digress... I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

I have a late 2009 iMac Core i7 ... still a lot of life left in this beauty. However, like you, I'm always excited to see new product releases.

Problem Solved.

aside from the os and processor specs, hardware design is really important and apple not upgrading it (i.e. macbook pro) has affected the sales. so please apple make the upcoming macs awesome :D

"Do they also bitch about there being no Start menu, or Internet Explorer?"

NO they do not. Most switched to the Mac in 2007 and 2008 and use them full time at work. They understand how to use a Mac very well. However, they would like to have the option in the operating system to set the zoom button to a consistent behavior.

Glad the updates were timely last year when i was in the market. Very frustrating having to wait...and wait...and...

I dont understand why so many people are bagging on macs. For one thing, they have THE best hardwear for any electronic device(my opinion) with a great, powerful OS to back it up. Also, I like how there are a few macs. Unlike, a PC, where every brand has like 20 different laptops, and 20 different desktops. They have a few, and they all fit certain types of needs!

I am looking forward to getting a Mac this year, because it can do alot more than any tablet can.
Sales are down a little because people are waiting for any upgrade. Once apple upgrades, they will get more Mac sales than right now.

:apple:

Yep... my last Mac purchase was a 2007 Macbook Pro (It just won't die, damn it!). I'm waiting for the latest processor updates before I consider an upgrade.

Need proof?

Just take a look at how defensive/ignorant people are when it comes to having the OPTION to ungroup windows in Mission Control in order to bring back Expose Functionality.
