Despite Apple talking about their nonstop work on improving Maps, the fact is they simply don't put the kind of money and effort into their map app that Google does.
And it shows.

Google maps? Yuk...

Despite the issues with the Apple Maps app... I got tired of dealing with the ever greater complexities being added to the google Maps program

If you are driving a car... you can actually easily learn to use the Apple Maps program. Not so much with Google... I don't NEED all the added features of goofle maps.

I want something to get me from point A to point B

I know that Apple Maps still has quite a few bugs in it, but it works fine for me. I went on vacation to Myrtle Beach and not knowing where pretty much anything was, I used Apple Maps to find places. It got me everywhere I needed to go without issue. I've submitted a few bug reports for places in my area that are incorrect and they have all been corrected.

Such as? Doesn't seem very complicated to me

Yes Forstall was responsible but firing the software guy for "Thinking Different" was not the answer, Forstall should have been given time and resources to rectify his mistake, Rom was not built in a day. In my opinion Forstall should have stayed and improvised on Apple Maps, Apple cannot/should not depend on Google for Maps, Google might pull the maps app nay day as iOS is in competition with Android. Just my 2 cents.

Forstall didn't get fired for his failure, he got fired for his stubbornness and arrogance.

That's entirely down to taste. Bet you like Rolex Watches and Fast and the furious Cars?

If you're resorting to this you've already failed hard.

----------

Apple Maps is already vector-based which is one of its major advantages over Google.

.

Google maps on iOS has been vector based for years.... Fail.

----------

The google cars are collecting Streetview photography (and illegally scanning wifi).

Illegal? How? Exactly what laws are being broken?

Scanning for wifi networks is in the protocol - they just happen to be pairing that information with location data.

----------

  1. it also has the potential to piss a 3rd party transit app developer off. Not exactly nice to hear at the conference the app you've been developing is now useless.

Hahahaha.... Since when has doing that ever bothered apple

----------

Vector based for Android, but not for iOS. So yes an advantage.

Fail. iOS Google maps is vector based.

Who uses apple maps they are inaccurate and useless google maps are far better it will take 10-15 years for apple to reach their.

What a sad commentary on a once innovative, brilliant company. I do believe Tim Cook is doing his best, but it's obvious Apple is hiding the cancer that's beginning to invade the company. Something needs to be done soon to get them back on track.

Even with billions in reserve they can only sustain their good public image so long. If not for overpriced, fat margin products, they'd be facing the slap of reality much sooner. At some point Apples going to be forced to accept reality and it won't be pretty.

Used to agree, but . . .

Totally agreed. I've provide correction through the feedback button, but no changes was done. One of it was the name of a street was repeated 10km away from the actual street. The other was to update Apple my dad's business location was outdated years before iOS map was available. Yet, Apple did not update anything at all. Crowdsourcing is a great way to rectify any mistake but Apple is not taking it seriously. Now, I don't bother to provide any more feedback.

I thought this was the case as well, but one of the errors I complained several times about actually got fixed. It was "take freeway south" when it should have been "take freeway north". Granted, I reported this 5 or 6 times, then stopped - and it was corrected in the next release.

Apple map works fine for me. Actually, it is better than google maps in my specific area, Valdosta, ga. I have used it many times going to florida and Atlanta. Apple map does not have local transit but it will come probably ios 8.2. I am not in hurry for that. Map is the lowest priority. It is not like google map is not on iOS anyways or other transit apps. People are so picky!;)
Apple maps works fine for me as well if I could only delete tolls and typing "no tolls" at the end doesn't work btw
