Many old time filmmakers have a distaste of digital because the crisper images, better color and higher frame rates distract and are less immersive. It starts looking too real, which is distracting.

Some filmmakers even add grain and other artifacts to digital media to make it look more “cinematic”

And this music video here is EXACTLY the reason why. Without the inherent dreamyness of film, everybody dancing around in the video look silly as hell.
Dont knock analogue, we see and hear in analogue.

Sick!
I prefer her more acoustic stuff but it’s great she is having fun! It’s been a long time since she released a traditional pop banger.

She had a few on the Star is Born soundtrack (Why Did You Do That?), but I agree. It felt like listening to Gaga back in 2010. I'm here for it.

Compared to most high end music videos. This look like a cheap home made video. Yeah you can tell it’s from a phone as there’s no depth of field. I bet the director pocket most of the money from all the savings. Someone got suckered and thought it would be a good idea but it’s not even close to the standard video quality as most music videos.

While they were at it, they should have recorded the soundtrack on iPhone too. Did not they know iPhone can record sound? That would be a great sound to go with great video.

Cue the comments pretentious negative posts trashing Gaga because "modern music sucks/let's listen to Queen or The Beatles aka real music'
I thought it’s a fact! There were better ones like Wilson Phillips..Maria Carey.... very difficult to get the lyrics in the recent ones

I'm sure my clients will be very impressed when i show up at a profesisonal shoot with just my iPhone. :)
Most of the people here don't realise the price difference between an iPhone and a professional video camera + all the other equipment and crew, do they

Defenitely not her best work. As for the vid quality, as many pointed out, looks cheap as heck.

My interest in Lady Gaga is purely physical, especially while watching A Star is Born. ;)

Not to say her music is bad, it's just not for me.

I'm a 90's & 80's hard-rock, punk, and post-punk fan, and will remain so until the end of my days.

That said, I'm old enough to still be impressed with the fact that they could shoot a video like this with an iPhone (or ANY smartphone) at all.

Marketing? Sure.

But still...it's like Ratatouille. "Anyone can cook" really meant "great cooks can come from anywhere".

So can great artistry.

Rewrite the title:

Professional directors, professional editors, professional screen writers, professional art and set directors, professional prop managers, lighting professionals, professional director of photography, professional camera persons, professional camera assistants, professional sound mixers, professional chief lighting tech, professional lighting runner, profession key grip, professional VFX team goes hands-on with iPhone.

🙄

Plus gimbals, lenses, and audio add-ons for the iPhone.

Yes, you can tell it's from a phone, but that is not what makes it look cheap. It looks like a cheap greenscreen video from the 90s... Also, the lighting is so inconsistent over the video that it's disturbing.
I hope the trashy look of this (incl. the camera handling) was intended... would be sad otherwise.

the bitrate makes it pretty obvious it was shot with a phone

I hate how you can tell it was shot with a phone.e. because of the bitrate. All music videos shot with iPhone 11 look choppy.

You use the word "bitrate" when viewing a video on YouTube as if that was any indication of how it was originated.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Highlight is the dance moves. Song isn't as good as her older hits and sounds a bit Madonna'ish. Looks like it was shot on a phone so nothing spectacular.

Yeah, this song reminds me of her 2011 hit "Born This Way" which was also compared to Madonna.

Even with the inherent dreaminess of film, everybody dancing around in this video would look silly as hell.

(But then I take it that’s the whole idea. Lady Gaga did name this song “Stupid Love,” after all. ;) )
