Guys - your opinion please

Was waiting to buy my first macbook pro to see what this new release brought out.. I want a 13" and I dont think I will be doing too much strenuous activities - which do you think is the best value

new base model 13" @ 1200 USD

or l

ast years Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo $1020 - 480USD off..

The only thing I think I would miss from the new version is the HD camera, other than that do you think the performance of the new processor/graphics is worth it?

for those wondering about refurbs they are great. I bought one and aside from the box it is impossible to tell the difference and pretty much everyone else has the same experience.

If you want a refurb model that is in demand check out this site http://www.refurb.me/us/ If what you are looking for is not in stock you can get an email message etting you know when it is in stock. You should act quickly as they can go fast

For $180 difference I'd get the new one. And you can buy the new one at Amazon or MacConnection etc and save tax and get it a bit cheaper than $1200.

btw, Anyone know if you can order a refurb online and have it shipped to an Apple store.

For anyone wondering about refurbished products, I say go for it. Although mine had a defective screen, it still carries the same warranty/AppleCare eligibility as a brand new computer. Plus, as long as you don't care about the latest and greatest, a computer can be had for hundreds less than a new model.

Anyone Think the 15inch April 2010 model..i5 worth around 1450 including tax The refurb was a little under 1300 without tax...compared to the any of the new models..I'm trying to stay cheap

Is this site instantly updated? How do you set up email notification? It's not that as an option on mobile Safari.

This site gets updated regularly so just check back. Or log on on a regular computer and the top of the page lets you see up email alerts. For some models you must act quickly so know what you want and when it is available then pull the trigger. hesitation is the enemy. The worst thing is you may have to just wait a bit. Base models are the most commonly sold so they are often the easiest to find.

For $1,450 with tax and shipping for a new 2010 is a great price. $1,360 including tax for a refurb is also pretty good - surprisingly good. Tough call between the two but for the difference you can upgrade the RAM to 8gb yourself. The lowest I found a new 15" 2010 is $1,550 and no tax (for outside NY). for myself if it was between the refurb for $1360 (tax included) or $1550 I would grab the refurb but if you found a new one for $1,450 then I would need to flip a coin.

AHHH im in such a dilemma I don't know what to get!!!! I just read recent articles on the home page and it said the NEW 13inch with Sandy Bridge out preformed this 15inch model. The only thing I don't like about the new 13inch is the wack graphic card. Anyone know much about this graphic card. there's only like 3 games I would want to play on my laptop. Black Ops, Starcraft 2, and Diablo 3 (whenever that comes out) any suggestions? There's no way to update video card huh

You can't update the video card or anything else except RAM and the hard drive on a MBP. The 13" does NOT have a dedicated graphics chip, only an integrated one, while the 15" models do. Unlike the CPU's which are now faster, the purpose of the graphics chip is to help with rapid screen refreshes which helps with movies and games, as opposed to other tasks like crunching numbers. I would go with the 15" because it has a dedicated graphics card and it is 15" (bigger) - but I am not a game player.

thanks a lot vantage...I think i'm going to get the 15inch...I peeped your signature and noticed you got a 15inch lol, I figured right now the 13inches aren't as impressive as the hype. So in the future i'll probably sell the 15inch and get a later 13 inch next year...

I think you should get the new 13", but that's only because I want that 15" refurb, and don't want to have to compete with you for it when it shows up again...

LOL!!! i might actually get the new one at my school...they selling the last of the models around 1450 new...the refurb with tax would have added to 1300+ so getting a new one for like an extra 100 should hold me down

I've purchased a 13" MBP and a few iPods refurbished, all looked like brand new and worked perfectly.

Anyone think the Apple store might actually restock on the refurbish 15in i5 that ran or 1269? or once there gone they never come back?

Refurbs are typically indistinguishable from new. The only obvious difference is the box, plain white or brown box. The all come with same as new warranty and allow you buy Apple Care within a year of purchase. Plus you get 90 days of phone support. Plus, you are more likely to get a perfect one since they go through a system of checks for each unit. Refurbs might be returned products that the owner exchanged (like someone that bought 15" MBP last Monday and returned it for the new models) or a unit that had defect and replaced instead of repaired. I bought a refurb iMac last year when iMac had the yellow screen issue. I gambled that the refurb would not have that problem and it didn't ;)

It is hard to find someone that bought a refurb and didn't recommend them as a result of the experience.

AFAIK all refurbs are purchased through Apple in Cupertino. The stores do not carry refurbs - but it can't hurt to call or visit your local store directly and ask if they want to move any old models out for the refurb price ;)
