I want to believe, too bad it isn't the more popular 14.1" size.

please be true. it's ridiculous i need to go for a 16" pro which is overkill in performance and priced too high just because i want a bigger screen.

can't wait to see how apple mess this up or find a way to rip people off more
I bought a Dell XPS 15 for that very reason. 16” MBP was way overkill, but wanted more real estate than 13/14” screen.

I would love this and would’ve chosen one over my M1 Max MBP had it been available at the time. I want a larger screen but I don’t need all the power of the M1 Pro/Max. I am really excited for this if it turns out to be true.

If this is true, definite win for consumers! It would still surprise me as I agree with @Wags that there would be a fair amount of cannibalization of the 16" MBP.

It would also mark a pretty big departure from Apple that has historically kept the larger screen device as the premium product (eg. iPhone Pro Max, 12.9" iPad Pro, and up until now the 15/16" MBPs).

I guess if they make the MBA 15" and leave the 16" for MBp, they're still keeping the branding somewhat... Either way, will be great for us consumers if true!

I really hope this is 15" with thin bezels and thus a smaller overall body than the 16" or the old MBP 15"

This 15-inch product could start at over $1,500. If Apple sells twice the number compared to 16-inch, they could make up for any cannibalization.

Exactly why somewhat skeptical. This could seriously cannibalize the mpb16. Bet there will not be much price difference between mba15 and mbp16 entry level. Sure would mean more laptop sales for Apple though.

There should be sufficient market differentiation between the Air and Pro when you consider the more powerful SoCs and higher memory and storage options. And if they do not give it MiniLED and/or ProMotion... ?

The biggest risk of a 15" MBA with MiniLED+Promotion would be the 14.1" MBP since I bought the MBP solely for MiniLED and ProMotion. Yet even there, the MBP will be the better machine for so many prosumer/professional tasks that Apple might not take too much of a hit (and they can always just price the MBA a bit higher to recover lost margin vis-a-vis the 14.1" MBP).

Wonder if it has anything to do with the soon-to-be-refreshed Surface Laptop and its choice of screen size. I had to buy one for my tax software and the 15 is light years easier to work on than the smaller version.

I miss the 11” MacBook Air. It was awesome
Same. But the core demographic of consumers has spoken. It’s the larger displays that are in favor for content viewing, editing and media. Plus, you can see were Apple is making their money, it’s not on smaller displays anymore. The key distinctive advantage to an 11 inch display, is simply portability and weight reduction.

I never understood the desire for this larger Air, but for some reason, it clicked in my head recently. I would love a 15” Air. Especially if they put a pro level screen on it.

If true it will become Apple’s best selling laptop. I has a little hesitant to buy my M1 Mac Mini last year, worried that it wouldn’t be powerful enough for my needs. Now I laugh. As a developer and sometimes audio engineer/composer/video editor, it’s more than enough. A 15 inch Air would be a great supplement to my mini. Once more people realize that the M1 is “good enough” for a majority of computing needs they’ll buy a 15 inch M2 Air like it’s going out of style.

I doubt many customers are buying $2,499 MBP 16 just for the display.

If the 15-inch product comes at $1,699, it's still a big win for Apple if they can sell 2 instead of a single MBP 16. Conventional LED, M2, stereo-only speakers, 256GB storage, no ports, no 140W adapter. There is lots to cut while keeping prices reasonable.
