This weirdly makes me feel better about my decision to buy a refurbished MBA a few days ago. I didn't want to wait until the fall to get a new computer, esp without even knowing for sure whether a 15" would be announced. This 13.3" MBA will be a great bridge laptop in the meantime (I also have a 16" M1 Pro through work--but don't love using it for personal computing).

so they've got 13, 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros, they're doing a 15" MacBook Air, and no 27" iiMac...... ....... ...... ....... ...... ....... ...... ....... .....

Yeah, I want the big screen and don't need Pro-level Power. I'll probably get a MBP 16 before then, assuming our funding comes through. But a big MBA would be perfect.

This will be a much needed upgrade for office work. Once does not need MBP for day to day business or even regular development tasks that is not system intensive.

Current MBA is small for many folks , but a 15.4 inch MBA will align to industry benchmark and will be an instant hit.

why 15" Air? and please, no more bulky chassis design like M1 Max, please make Air as thin as possible. The new 14 and 16 M1 pro and max are powerful but so bulky. It's like carrying the IBM laptop back in 90.

same number of thunderbolt ports as current MacBook pros PLEASE!
Then what would Apple charge extra for on the Macbook Pro? Processor with one extra graphics core? Liquid Retina? Those are not so compelling. Ports are one of the biggest differences in the air/pro line. This will have fewer ports for sure.

If there is one thing Apple is stingy with in all its computers, it's ports.

Oh man, so I've been plotting my future moves and I'm thinking M3 Ultra Mac Studio in 2024 to use for most of my work (that's actually well beyond what I need but I will keep it for ages) in my studio and now this beautiful 15" MacBook Air for travel and lighter work duties or when I want to sit outside in my hammock. Although I doubt the M3 will be a slouch in this thing and probably plenty capable of handling some of my more demanding workflows. Although if this comes out in early 2023 it might be an M2 and that would still be tempting. I'm tired of my 16" MBP cooking my balls off and I don't use it for as intensive stuff as my desktop 5K iMac anyway. Hopefully we can get it sooner rather than later and that will help me spread out the cost for both machines over 2023 and 2024. 2022 is probably my Apple Watch and 2025 will probably be time for a new iPad, and if I get an Air I'll probably go back down to an 11" Pro.

I just looked at laptop sizes. It turns out you can fit a 13" screen into the chassis the size of the 2015-17 MacBook.
I'm confused. Why wouldn't a 13" screen fit in a 13" machine from 5 years ago?
If anything, I would hope the chassis of this upcoming model would be even smaller.

I am not into MacBook BUT a bigger base iPad would be instant buy, maybe this year for the base iPad 10th generation we get something.

Really hate this news because I was going to upgrade my 2017 13" MBP this year to the 2022 MBA, but now I'm supposed to wait another year or two? Grrrrr!

Give it 2023 bezels and your very close to 13".

Won't buy a new laptop until they make something as portable as my 2017-12".
Yeah, it's a bit odd they mention a "larger" 13"... still use my under powered 12" MB for cafe coding (as you're can't dev on a iPad)... if I had the time (and connector specs) I'd dig into the possibility of transplanting a M1 MBA board into a 12" MB

Instant buy here also, currently on M1 Air. A retina 15" with wedge shape and great battery life would be so many peoples ideal computer now we have apple silicon.

with thin bezels, is it not 13.3" MBA is similar to MB 12" in terms of size? i do not have the exact dimensions in my hand. IMHO 12" MB is not coming back...

SSDs changed the PC and laptop in particular forever, nowadays laptops are compact as their display size allows.

They are not. MB 12" had little bezel for a start, and 13.3" with zero bezel will still be quite a bit larger than 12" MB with Bezel. But the size isn't the question hee.

The proposition of MBA 12.x" is similar to iPad Air or iPhone Mini, you create a cheaper pricing tier at $799 price point. Apple could do that with MBA 13.3" and MBA 15". Lowering to MBA 13.3" to $899 which was the previous lowest price MBA 11" in 2014.

I just thought $899 for MBA 13.3" was too good of a deal from Apple.

I hope a space grey version with BLACK bezels too and not the stupid color versions with white bezels.
