Owning an M1 13 pro for a year, I know it has all the power I need. The only improvement I see from here is a larger screen in a thin and light body. I don't think I'll ever need the power of the 14/16.

I see a lot of comments about a 15” will not be small/portable enough to be called MacBook Air, however there are also rumors that Apple will remove the air moniker and just go with MacBook. It is kinda strange that they have “base” models (iPhone, iPad) air models, pro models, pro max models, mini, SE and so on.

My guess is that Apple will start transitioning to a more uniform naming of their product portfolios, having an iPad/MacBook/iPhone portfolio and then a Pro-alternative.

Doesn’t seem likely. You need to look into something like this…
If you have to buy a plugin keypad for a large screen 15-16in. laptop already over $1000 then thats a genuine ripoff.

They are not. MB 12" had little bezel for a start, and 13.3" with zero bezel will still be quite a bit larger than 12" MB with Bezel. But the size isn't the question hee.

The proposition of MBA 12.x" is similar to iPad Air or iPhone Mini, you create a cheaper pricing tier at $799 price point. Apple could do that with MBA 13.3" and MBA 15". Lowering to MBA 13.3" to $899 which was the previous lowest price MBA 11" in 2014.

I just thought $899 for MBA 13.3" was too good of a deal from Apple.
gotcha.

13.3" MBA many a times goes to $850 price point during sales - best buy is one of them. Outside of US, the prices are way higher for 13.3" MBA (with little to no discount at all through out the year).

Exactly why somewhat skeptical. This could seriously cannibalize the mpb16. Bet there will not be much price difference between mba15 and mbp16 entry level. Sure would mean more laptop sales for Apple though.
MBA15 will be 1799

I appreciate reading everyone's thoughts and ideas about a possible larger-screen MBA.

One of the things I've always loved about MBA's is that it's easy to carry them anywhere. I'm not sure that would remain true with a 15" model.

But a 14" MBA, with smaller bezels, would be scarcely bigger than the current 13" MBA. (The 2021 14" MBP is almost identical in size and weight to the pre-Touch Bar 13" MBP.) That would work really well for me. I borrowed a 14" MBP from a colleague for a day to compare to my 13" MBA, and found the difference in screen size is meaningful and super helpful.

Besides a 14" MBA, I'd also like to see a 12" MBA Mini, in an enclosure that's slightly smaller than the defunct 12" MB. With the cool-running M1 chip, a 12" MBA would have few of the compromises that the MB did.

Then Apple could also keep the existing 13" MBA around as a legacy device at a reduced price, kind of like an iPhone SE. It would be great for schools or companies that buy large fleets of macbooks for students or campus computer labs.

We need a bigger screen iMac, not a bigger screen MacBook Air. The reason to buy the Air is for a compact design, making a bigger screen kinda defeats the point. Would be good if they made slimmer bezels to max out the screen while keeping it the same size.
The mba mission has changed over the years. Now it also represents the low end, while the word ”air“ has a leftover premium caché

This 15-inch product could start at over $1,500. If Apple sells twice the number compared to 16-inch, they could make up for any cannibalization.
Just have up to 2 TB4 ports (maybe one on each side) and MagSafe for ports. Keep the screen tech inferior. Limit support for just 1 monitor.

I got an M1 Air last year and really enjoy using it. However, I find the screen a bit cramped so this would be a godsend provided it is priced as an entry level option like the 13. The base M1 Air is £1000 here so if this starts at £1200-1250 it would really hit the spot for me.

Sounds good to me ! Keep it to no more than mid 1k too please

Completely makes sense... A lineup similar to this would be nice...

~ $999 13” MBA (M1 maybe even $899, then back to $999 with M2)
~ $1299 13” MacBook in new form factor (rumored to be MBA refresh) using M2
~ $1499 15” MacBook in new form factor (rumored to be MBA refresh) using M2
~ $1999 14” MBP
~ $2299 16” MBP
You’re dreaming buddy. The 15 MB will be 1799

Uh, what your saying makes zero sense. This will not cannibalize sales of the 16” MacBook Pro one iota. I don’t need a 16” MacBook Pro, I have a 27” loaded iMac and an M1 13” MacBook Pro. When the iMac moves on, I will move to a Mac Studio with 24” and 27” displays and I would love to move to a 15” Air for the extra screen real estate. I’m not about to move to a 16” MacBook Pro just to have that larger screen and an extra $1,000 cost to get that extra screen size. Screw that, and Apple knows this. They know there’s pent up demand for this screen size and they've waited until the natives have become restless enough.

I suspect a 15” MacBook Air will start at $1499 for an 8/512, which translates to $250 for the size move from the equivalent 13” to 15”. The 16” MBP starts at $2,499. There’s no way the 15” MBA is going to start anywhere close to that price. For that $2499 price, you’ll probably be able to get the 15” MBA at 16GB/2TB SSD, and $2899 for a 32GB/2TB SSD, depending on whether the M2 supports 32GB DRAM.

Apple will sell a boatload of these.
It won’t be an “Air. It will be a Macbook and it will cost 1699 MINIMUM

It's not a cost issue for me at all. I want a large-screen MacBook that's thinner and lighter than the MacBook Pro. Give me an M2, two USB-C ports, and a web cam and I'll give Apple $2,000 for it.
Will the M2 support at least 2 external 6K displays?

it depends on what version of M1 goes in there ... iPad Air has M1 chip in it for $599

So it is doable at around $1299 (replace the touch bar MBP 13.3" price point).

If 15" MBA in works, it is better for apple leave the 13.3" MBA as is until next year when all the MBA goes to M2 chip. they can even re-use the 15.4" MBP panel from the previous models if required... no pro motion in MBA for sure.

Apple is developing a larger 15-inch MacBook Air that could come out in 2023, according to research shared today by Display Supply Chain Consultants in its quarterly report.

Flat-MacBook-Air-15-Feature.jpg

The full report is limited to those in the display industry who subscribe, but display analyst Ross Young provided a bit of color on what can be expected. Apple is working on a MacBook Air that's somewhere around 15 inches in size, with the machine set to debut alongside a "slightly larger" 13-inch MacBook Air.

According to Young, the larger-sized 15-inch MacBook Air is slated for release in 2023, but a specific launch date unknown. This is not the first time that we've heard about a 15-inch MacBook Air, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said last year that Apple was working on a larger MacBook Air with a 15-inch display size.

At the time, Gurman said that Apple had "considered" building a larger version of the MacBook Air, but decided not to move forward with it "for the next generation." Gurman did not mention whether Apple had nixed the idea all together, but it appears that the larger MacBook Air project has not been abandoned.

Internal Apple emails that came out during the Epic Games v. Apple trial also indicate that Apple considered a larger 15-inch MacBook Air as early as 2008, but instead went with the smaller 13-inch model.

Apple this year is expected to introduce a redesigned version of the MacBook Air that brings new color options and does away with the tapered design, but it is expected to have the same general 13-inch screen size. It will be a surprise if Apple introduces a total redesign in 2022 and then a larger redesigned version of the MacBook Air in 2023, but it's a possibility.

Along with a larger version of the MacBook Air, DSCC says that Apple is working on a base model iPad that could be "slightly larger" than the current 10.2-inch model.

Lightweight, 15.4 inch screen, M1/2 processor, backlit keyboard... for me this would be a dream machine.

For me, I don't care. I don't have that use case. I need a 15-inch or larger screen with a modern, entry level processor, two USB ports, and, most importantly, in a design as thin and light as possible for a 15-inch laptop.

That’s all I need. I dont care if they charge $1599 for it, $1799, or $1999. Hell, I’ll probably pay in the mid-$2000’s for it because I’ll max out the SSD and RAM.

It’s all about having a 15-inch Mac laptop that is as thin as possible, for me. That’s it.

Maybe, but the MBP 16" is only $200 more now than the MBP 14" for the same specs and $1799 might put it too close to the base 14" MBP. Anyway I'd like to see one ~$1499 even though I'd still get a smaller version myself.

I would like support for multiple monitors. Hoping the M2 allows for that. They should focus on portability and battery. As for price, it will probably be at least 1,699

Pre-Covid and Pre-Historical Inflation, maybe, but given the high demand for the new ASD at a whopping min of $1,599, I think Apple will 100% mark up the 15 MB. $1,699 minimum sounds likely.
