What I think will happen(this is just my personal opinion) is apple will go the moto x route. That phone is probably the best when it comes to ergonomics, its only slightly larger than the iPhone 5 and it has a screen thats .7" bigger I think they'll wanna keep it as thin and light as they can without increasing the overall size to much. I'm personally looking forward to the 5" or higher phone myself as long as they add some value to having the larger screen(i'm looking at you HTC), don't increase the size just to increase it

Hmmm, I guess I am only one of the few who prefer a smaller device.

I definitely agree with you. I have the 5S and I find that it's more than enough screen. I want a phone that easily fits in my pocket.

I've had a 4.5" phone. It sucks. It is hard to pocket which is where my phone sits a lot of the time.

All of you "anti larger screen" people need to realise that if you want a battery that actually lasts you more than half a day, something has to give and in this case it's going to be a larger screen to fit a larger battery. My LG G2 is amazing with battery life simply because they could cram a much larger battery in it than the iPhone can. I'm one of the many people eagerly waiting to switch to an iPhone as soon as they release a screen size that isn't designed for small children.

You know, my battery lasts well over the 16 hours I need it to, so that works really nicely for me. My biggest complaint about larger screens is that they don’t fit comfortably in my pocket. Sure the extra real-estate would be nice, but my phone spends most of the day in my pocket, so that kinda negates the benefits. And since the battery isn’t even an issue…

I don’t know, maybe I’m a small child. It’s possible, I suppose, since it feels like they designed the form factor of the 5 just for me.

Larger iPhone.. I am back to iPhone 5s from Galaxy S4 due to its size.
Larger iPad.. This is more like a product for the business world..
iWatch... Meh...

So I will have to just not look forward to new Apple products for a while. :(

These specs don't make sense. They suggest larger screen phones being "higher end". But Apple surely will keep available a "highest end" phone for people who want to retain the ability to operate phone with only one hand. Unless they abandon their principle of making the best possible products rather than chasing fashionable trends, whatever their "highest end" phone is, will continue to be available in a one-hand-use size (i.e., 4").

Apple also will make larger screen phones since some people want things more like tablets, or phablets. And I am sure they will also make a "highest end" phone in that size as well. However, the larger sizes will be alternative sizes only, not "higher end".

My prediction: iPhone Basic (i.e, next version of iPhone C, 4"), iPhone Basic Plus Size (5"), iPhone S (i.e. top graphics, cpu, camera) , iPhone S Plus Size, and then a iPhablet, much like the Nokia 1520

Oh come on, these numbers are just stupid analysts doing stupid guesses. Just like every year.

If Apple introduces a larger iPhone, there is going to be *one* large iPhone, not three different sizes with three different resolutions (on top of the existing resolutions).

The appropriate response to this oddity is not "OMG Apple is stupidly changing everything I love". It is "OMG these analysts really don't know what they're talking about".

Meh, what's with all these predictions that upcoming iDevices will use resolutions that will further fragment the iOS ecosystem? It's fine as is, there's only a handful of different resolutions to design for... but let's not add any more.

Bingo. It's nothing more than baseless speculation that Apple will introduce a larger iPhone. Even if they did, they aren't going to burden us with so many aspect ratios.

Not a chance of them using 2560x1440. At those densities they'd need a 3x DPI scale and 2560 does not divide by 3. 2400x1350 would be more their style.

If this is true, I guess I'd better get a specced out 5S right now since I hate big phones.

Once you go big screen, you can't go back. I love my Note 3. Even 5" phones feel puny now. Whoever wants to stick to 4" phones must wear skinny jeans or is a young Asian chick.

This is actually THE reason I would be interested in a larger screen, the battery life. The larger screen would be the secondary consideration for me. ^_^;

My guess is this:

iPhone 3GS - "S" meant "speed"
iPhone 4S - "S" meant "Siri"
iPhone 5S - "S" meant "security"
iPhone 6S - "S" stands for "size"

Phones went from BIG to small back to BIG.

Back when a phone was just a phone, smaller was better. But when it comes to smartphones, the smart part takes precedence over the phone part, which is now only one peripheral function of the device. They're more about delivering information to you, from Facebook, to map directions, to watching movies, to listening to music, to taking notes, internet browsing. For a goodly chunk of those, a larger screen arguably works better.

This is a philosophy difference between Apple and the rest. Sure Apple realizes that battery life is an issue, but they don't take the easy road. While Android phones are getting to the point where they look ridiculous, Apple would much rather perfect the user experience and work on reducing power consumption and increases power efficiency throughout the system. Apple would much rather make further use of IGZO display technology and continue their effort of making their ARM chips more efficient. Ever notice how the top Android phones have a comparable geek bench score yet they have quad-core processors? There's a philosophy behind iOS and the iPhone. With you get Android, you get more choice but at what cost?

At the end of the day, no one is forcing you to buy any phone, and so the phone you do buy is your decision. If you don't like Apple's offering, then don't make give them your money. It's as simple as that.

Am in in the minority when I say, "please keep it under 4.3"?"

You're in the majority if asking people that have only used iphones and other smaller phones.

The minority if asking us people that have used 5" Android phones. You get used to it and then love having the extra screen. I wouldn't want to go much bigger if at all bigger than 5".

Apple needs to find a way to shorten the top and bottom of the phone with the current dimensions it would be too tall and long.

True.

Cars also went from BIG to small back to BIG.

Once the Nissan Sentra was small, not its the size of an Altima and the Altima got as big as the Maxima, now the Maxima is overly-large imo.

For the majority of the iPhone user base really. Only a small perfect would prefer smaller iPhones. Society has perpetuated that bigger = better.

Phones went from BIG to small back to BIG.

Based on what actual evidence? Please cite at least one scientifically conducted poll before spouting opinion as fact. Your "world" doesn't constitute the majority of iPhone users. I don't deny a large portion of iPhone users would like a larger phone but see no evidence that segment is the vast majority.

I think IF Apple makes a larger phone size its not going to abandon the current size in the premium range; it will just make a larger version to compliment the current size. Other than screen size everything else will be the same similar to the iPad mini and iPad Air.

Personally, I don't want a phone that can't comfortable fit in my front pocket. That is a serious deal killer. I don't carry a man purse and try to avoid outdoor jackets when possible. So that means when I'm dressed casually I'd have no place to put a phone. I'm not going to wear my phone like Captain Kirk. #dorky.
