Hmmm, I guess I am only one of the few who prefer a smaller device.

You aren't the only one (as you can see from being the most quoted person in this thread). I too do not welcome larger screen sizes. I've had my 5c for 3 months now, and am still not convinced that the taller screen is preferable. I would rather see an iPhone that is half as thick than see one that is any larger!

When I have need for a larger screen, I use my iPad. Apple should just add phone capabilities to the iPads and let those be used by those that want phablets.
Seriously. Why can't they just add an optional cellular version to the iPad Mini and be done with all this. They'd instantly trump anything else in the phablet market without further diluting their product lineup.

Totally agree.

12" tablets are just too big, and completely awkward to hold.

The only usable device here is the 4.7" iPhone, which would be in addition to their 4" iPhone.

An iWatch is a complete joke. Absolutely no one is interested in a watch. Watches are jewelry, and the only thing that matters about watches is how good they look when you dress, or how expensive they are (the more expensive the better), and not what they do. And Apple isn't in the jewelry business.

The worst people in the world are adults that think of watches are tech devices. These people are horrible people, and need to get a life.

Have you used any of the current 12in tablets on the market? No you haven't because they are not available yet. I personally can not wait til the NotePRO comes out as this will allow me to be much more productive with my work flow.

Wearables are going to be a $20 BILLION industry by 2018. No matter if you like it or not, it's going to happen. There are so many possibilities with wearables that will happen in the next few years to improve peoples lives, especially in the health sector.

A folding 17" iPad would be even more awesome!

Samsung is already working on that. I know you hate Samsung but they are.

Hmmm, I guess I am only one of the few who prefer a smaller device.

I am with you. Hope they release both sizes. It will then accommodate both a larger and smaller size hand. And will please the audience that wants the larger viewing size. I prefer the smaller size so I can handle the phone and all its functions with one hand.

I hope they stay on the current form factor of the iPhone 5S.

I hate those big Samsung phones. If someone next to you in a meeting checks his Samsung the big screen and bright light annoys the hell out of me.
And they all wear horrible pants to match those ridiculous phones.

the efficiency on these Samsung screens is just so low. There's not 'more' useful information on the screen, and it looks clunky.

Millions of people disagree with this thought process.

lol or a Versa.

I hope to buy a new car this year (still paying off attorney fees from a custody battle 2 years ago  )

Ooh, damn. I've seen enough messy custody battles among my friends that I've pretty much decided to practice the rhythm method for the rest of my life. They don't look fun at all.

As for cars, I'm still waiting for the Teslas to hit it big. They're are some nice cars out there, but nothing's captured my attention quite like it.

If pixel density changes, and betting we'll be switching to retina 3x, it will have to be screens between 400 and 500 ppi (3*132 -- 3*163).

If they don't choose the 1920x1080 route, then I think the width can't be anything else than 960px (3*320), for app compatibility/portability ease.

At 400 ppi, a 5:3 1600x960 screen would measure 4.7" and offer a nice 40% surface gain over the current 4" iPhone's screen.

But 3 isn't a divisor of 1600, so I wouldn't bet on it.

A 1536*960 (8:5) screen at 400 ppi sounds to me like a nice 4.5" candidate, 35% larger than the 4" iPhones and 2 times more pixels.

Don't care... Fix what I have pleeeeeez

I don't care about the upcoming 2014 products. Apple needs to fix the performance issues on the existing iPad Air many of us just purchased. Mine was almost $900 with tax and AppleCare... What I want is a Fix on the low memory and crashing issues! This is ridiculous.

For the majority of the iPhone user base really. Only a small perfect would prefer smaller iPhones. Society has perpetuated that bigger = better.

Phones went from BIG to small back to BIG.

Phones have also transitioned into more than just making phone calls and simple text messages.

----------

No, they are not. You might think they are, and maybe they truly are to you. But ideal phone size isn't a factual discussion; it's a matter of opinion and preference. You are not right. I am not wrong. End. Of. Story.

Now which is more marketable and profitable? That's based on the majority preference. There is indeed a right and wrong answer to that question. And I think Android devices have proven that the majority wants ever-bigger phones. I don't deny this reality, and I think Apple is smart to get on that bandwagon.

But, and this is my point, if Apple is going to cater to the niche/minority customer that prefers the smaller size (and that's a big if), why not truly serve their desires and keep the small size they have and like? They should first and foremost make a giant phone for the masses, but why even bother with a second model for that minority if it's going to be bigger, counter to the entire point of a smaller model?

I'm done complaining about Apple making a giant iPhone. They are a business, and that's what makes sense, even if it's a product that doesn't excite me personally (totally acceptable). What doesn't make sense is an additional smaller model, targeted at the people who share my preference, yet still doesn't excite me/us. Who is the less big model aimed at?

Look, I agree with you. People should have a choice and I believe Apple should make several sizes for peoples needs. Have the S/M/L so that people can choose what they want. If you want a 3.5/4in phone. Great. Have at it. If you want a 5+in phone go get it.

Apple as of right now does not give you that choice unfortunately. I would love to have a bigger iPhone to choose from, but as of right now I don't have an option that will suit my needs from Apple.

----------

Once you go big screen, you can't go back. I love my Note 3. Even 5" phones feel puny now. Whoever wants to stick to 4" phones must wear skinny jeans or is a young Asian chick.

I like Asian women not chicks.

What I hope to see this fall.

Keep the 4" model.

Bring a 4.7" and 5.5" model to the market.

You cover all the bases. The 4" model for the people who want/need the ability to reach every corner of the screen with their thumb. The 4.7" model is better for people who browse the web a lot and play games. The 5.5" model is the phablet entry that every other OEM has wised up and joined. Much like the iPad and MacBook Pro line there is a strong market for 3 sizes of the same device.

Back when a phone was just a phone, smaller was better. But when it comes to smartphones, the smart part takes precedence over the phone part, which is now only one peripheral function of the device. They're more about delivering information to you, from Facebook, to map directions, to watching movies, to listening to music, to taking notes, internet browsing. For a goodly chunk of those, a larger screen arguably works better.

Also, sastically speaking, people are talking less and less on phones every year and consuming/doing more and more productive things on phones.

----------

This is a philosophy difference between Apple and the rest. Sure Apple realizes that battery life is an issue, but they don't take the easy road. While Android phones are getting to the point where they look ridiculous, Apple would much rather perfect the user experience and work on reducing power consumption and increases power efficiency throughout the system. Apple would much rather make further use of IGZO display technology and continue their effort of making their ARM chips more efficient. Ever notice how the top Android phones have a comparable geek bench score yet they have quad-core processors? There's a philosophy behind iOS and the iPhone. With you get Android, you get more choice but at what cost?

At the end of the day, no one is forcing you to buy any phone, and so the phone you do buy is your decision. If you don't like Apple's offering, then don't make give them your money. It's as simple as that.

Why does Apple get to dictate my user experience? For me and others the user experience comes with a larger screen to be more productive.

Do you have screen size hard coded in your app?

Have you coded an iOS native app? I haven't since iOS 6, but back then, you had to hard-code screen size. Apple's standard forms/components lacked any concept of dynamic alignment and sizing that native Windows forms/components have had since Win 95 (or earlier, but that's when I first coded Windows apps).

I mean, from a desktop developer's perspective, this sounds like complete amateur non-sense. Until I first worked on an iOS app. And then I understood why iOS devs were hard-coding sizes. There was no alternative.

The 12.9 "iPad Pro" is going to turn out to be a Macbook.

(Feel free to quote this if/when I'm wrong)

I feel like thats probably what will end up happening. There is an 11" and a 13" MacBook Air right now, if they released a retina 12" MacBook Air that could basically replace both models they currently offer.

IMO it just seems like a MacBook would better suit your needs
Oh no... I'd miss iOS and everything I have set up on it. And to go from a touchscreen to a trackpad? No thanks.

Also, with small kids in the house the iPad in it's case can take drops from a couch/table. Not so with a $$$ Macbook!

oh boo hoo, so you'll need to sit a couple of more hours to make your apps fit bigger screen.
It's like a bus driver would be pissed off because he has to make a little longer detour once in 2 years on his daily route.

By the nature of your post I can only assume you know very little when it comes to programming.

Its all about tradeoffs...Sure apple can give you a 2k display sourced from Samsung or Sharp, but then while they design a phone they have to make so many compromises to get the product just right..Samsung wants the 2k premium phone crown (i think a 2k phone already exists in china) I'll let them have it..Apple would probably take a seriously look at other areas such as battery life and try to give a better expereince over there to its customers..Personally i find the retina to be a great screen..Going 1080P and higher PPI would be even better...Would 2k be nicer? Probably. But then I'd rather take added battery life over that and i think most iphone users would take an outrageously long battery life over a 2k display (compared to a 1080P one)...

You mean better battery storage like Samsung?

Samsung might employ a new type of lithium-ion battery that’s capable of storing 20% more energy than an older battery with the same footprint. This would allow Samsung to fit those extra 300mAh of power in there without needing to increase the size of the battery or the phone. And it could feature rapid charging technology, which would let you reach a full charge in just two hours. http://gigaom.com/2014/01/14/more-galaxy-s5-rumors-new-2900mah-li-ion-battery-with-rapid-charging/

Yeah... I'm totally sure it is. I remember when I switched from my Galaxy to iPhone, I totally kept on hanging out on Android forums, just so I could troll & brag about how much I loved my iPhone.
Wait...... no I didn't. I was actually having fun using my new phone.
Lol, sounds like you are here to justify your purchase to yourself.

I'm still on MacRumors because I own 4 other Apple devices, you pleb.

I'm not trolling at all, grow up and stop giving ammunition to people that hate Apple Fanboys.

I like many others... came to the Iphone from android due to the super sized screens + other small reasons.

Might be going back to android if Iphone goes big. Hope apple gives us options.
