A larger screen isn't why I switched to Android.

Though it helps, what really drove my decision was the more customizable UI, the native bit torrent client, the way my SIII works flawlessly with my SmartTV and farking widgets man, WIDGETS.

Bigger screen devices is the only thing Android has going for it. If Apple does launch a larger screen for those consumers who want it, well, I think it spells the end for Android as a serious contender in the mobile space.

Sounds like you've never used an Android device.

Honestly I found the size of note 2 uncomfortable.
I am a guy and I don't carry a purse.
As such, having note 2 in the front pocket was very uncomfortable so I was happy to switch back to iPhone.

Maybe below 5 inch could be okay.
But long shape as drawn here would look unwieldy.

Count me as one of the people that will come back to Apple if they release a large iPhone 6. I left Apple after my iPhone 4 and went to the Note 2 only for the screen size. I would love to get back into Apple phones so that everything in my family will be on the Apple ecosystem instead of my phone being the only one that's left out. I miss iMessages, being able to control my Apple TV from the phone, etc. I love the large size of the Note 2, but that's about it.

What has happened to Apple's "I'll make what you need because we know better than you do. And we don't follow the market nor focus groups."

IMO, if you want bigger get iPad Mini. The 5s is as big as it should be. A bit longer . . . ok, but same width as the 4 so I can use it one-handed at times. Still a bit dangerous to use one-handed. If wider, then almost can't use one-handed.

I rather have longer battery life, than thinner. The thicker iPhones of the past are ok with me if battery life was longer.

The 4.7 Moto X is almost exactly a quarter-inch wider than the iPhone 5s. I would expect Apple to do something similar by eliminating much of the bezel on the sides. Which means a 4.7" iPhone will be bigger but not by as much as the display size difference suggests.

However the physical form factor is only one part of it. A bigger display with smaller bezel still makes one-hand use more difficult, and having less bezel sometimes makes it even more so because your palm pad may tough the screen.

Having used a wide range of smartphones from 2.8" to 6.4", my favorite form factor is the latest iPod Touch and the favorite screen size is 3.8" which is still found in some Windows Phones. Even Apple's 4" screen is slightly too big for comfortable one hand usage even though I have a fairly large hand.

A 4.7" iPhone will be nice to look at and won't be that much bigger than the current iPhones but it'll certainly be a sizeable downgrade in one-hand usage. It's unlikely Apple will produce another 3.5" or 4" flagship spec device and I'll be unhappy but it seems there isn't that many small display smartphone enthusiasts out there :(

Ok, good point. How about an iPhone 6 with 5s dimensions, then an oversized iPhones as an opinion for those that want it. I admit there's a market for oversized smartphones where people aren't concerned about one-handed use. Some want gigantic screen smartphones that are clearly not pocketable. I definitely don't want an iPhone so big that it requires a purse or bag. One-handed use is so nice. Pick up and answer with one-hand and no worries about dropping it. If I text I can still use one-hand if needed although not ideal.

I won't be happy to give up one-handed use, but would probably get still get the next iPhone. I guess Apple is banking on people like me, while hoping to pull in the big screen customers too.

iPad mini is almost 4x times bigger than iPhone 5s, in terms of surface area. It's also not pocketable. It's not a valid alternative to an iPhone.

People want larger screen phones that are still pocketable.

I think come late September 2014, we will see two iPhone models:

1. Second-generation iPhone 5C, which will use an improved version of the plastic case used by the current iPhone 5C but will now switch to iPhone 5S internals, including the Touch ID sensor. Will be offered in 16 and 32 GB versions.

2. iPhone 6, which will look like an iPhone 5C "writ large" but there will be almost no bezel around the circa 4.8" display. Will use new A8 system on a chip (SoC) and get a new, improved 8 megapixel rear sensor. Will be offered in 16, 32 and 64 GB versions. Touch ID, of course, will be standard.

I'd like to hear why people want bigger displays on their phone? Because I really don't get it, or then I'm just missing some good points. I'd like to have a mobile phone after all. Which fits in my pocket etc. Why the hell would I need a "huge" display on my phone –which isn't even that huge if you are thinking about watching movies for example. I'd leave that kind of stuff to the computer/tablet anyway.

There are actually many people I know who switched to a Samsung just "because the screen is bigger".

One of the reasons is aging eyes.

And one of my pet peeves in web site design is the inability to make text larger and more readable. So many sites now force you to deal with a small default text size and you are cannot enlarge the text nor screen size with a 2 finger expand
gesture.

You can easily add bookmarklets to Safari bookmarks and then you will be able to increase text size on any webpage.
I have good eyesight but since I was little I always prefered very large text so all my idevices have those bookmarklets.

I'm a current iPhone user, have aging eyes and have a purse to carry my phone is and I still want no part of a 5+ inch phone. I'm perfectly fine with the current size and don't want it any bigger. I don't understand the clamor of wanting the iPhone screen to be as big as a Galaxy. If I wanted something that big, I would buy a iPad Mini

Can't phone home with an iPad Mini.

Getting an iPad is not a good solution for me.
I don't want to carry multiple devices.

I actually don't have a problem with the current iPhone size though.
I think it could be a little bigger but if it went past 5, I wouldn't like it.

5-6" and an ipad mini size are day and night IMO for the simple fact that one is pocketable and one is not. I stopped carrying a tablet a while ago and instead carry a Note 3 as my tablet, it's pretty awesome to have both hands free again. I love my iphone though, and could see finally consolidating my 2 devices into 1 when the ip6 comes out.

The problem with all those large screen Androids is that you can't hold them comfortably. hold your phone in the right hand and try to hit the top with your thumb, it's crap. For me it's clear that smartphones need to become wearable devices, I don't know how however. But it's anyway a device you want to have with you all day and you can't miss. You will also carry it when you shower or go for a swim in the future. Maybe it will be on your wrist. And then, to watch movies on a bigger screen, you could still have a bigger device like a tablet in your bag. Yeah, I think the future will be something like that

Why does it need to be any bigger? What is the point of the iPad? iPhone is a smaller screen to fit in your pocket, iPad is bigger for different things. Why do I want something in the middle?

Because not everyone wants to buy and carry 2 devices I like having one device for everything!

It wouldn't be as good as either one... not as big as an iPad but not as small as a phone. Why would I want it? I have an iPhone to fit in my pocket and go with my everywhere, and the iPad is for when I need a bigger screen. They're two completely different devices that do completely different things. I would sit and use my iPad at length. Not my iPhone. I don't want a bigger iPhone or smaller iPad. I want two devices that serve two needs. No need for something in the middle as far as I'm concerned.

So, wait... suddenly 5" phones aren't mobile?

The Nexus 4 fits in my pocket fine. The Note is borderline, but it's still pocketable.

Are you saying only the iPhone can fit in your pocket? Are you a really small person? Do you wear really tight jeans?

You're neglecting the fact that people use their smartphones (especially iPhone) primarily to consume content and communicate via web services. I bet most people don't even spend a tenth of their time on the iPhone making phone calls.

Plus the fact that phones are with people 99% of the time, computers and tablets are not.

It's not a case of "bigger is always better", rather, what's the sweet spot for portability and usability.

If Apple was right the first time around, they'd still only be selling 3.5" iPhones, and 9" display computers like the original Mac. And Samsung's phone department would be out of business.

That's not the case, now is it?

Bigger screen would be fantastic. Got to play around with a Galaxy S4 all week and the OS nearly drove me insane, but when I went back to my 5s wow did I miss the real estate.

4.7" - 5" would be my perfect iPhone. Now just fix the problem with emailing and texting groups of people. :D

How do you email a group of 100 people or text a group of 20 people? My goal is to avoid having to individually select each contact. I must be missing some huge thing! I genuinely am looking for how people do this on the iPhone with as few steps as possible.
