5.0 to 5.2" is the sweet spot. 4.7 is still behind. Someone needs to shake that "innovator" guy.

I would argue that there is no 'behind' or 'sweet spot' (most phones today sell outside of that size range... how can that be sweet?).

I'm not arguing for a particular size, just one that differentiates the 6 from the 5, and every 4s user can see themselves discussing the options. That's a tough sweet spot to hit.

(Personally, I think the '6s' will be big, and the '6c' will be the same sizes as the 5c (5s CPU, no touchID), and the 5s will be the mid tier phone... And I would likely buy a 5s... while I'm a big guy with big hands, I got genetically small fat thumbs... the 4s is about my range of motion.

I think it's unlikely they'll introduce two new models. I'd buy the 5.5 inch model, but I don't expect they'd make such a significant jump. I think ~4.7 inches is next.

6 and 6c (likley retire the 5c, 4 and 4s) 6c is a 5s without touchID, and will be the low cost phone (.99 or 99). the current 5s will be the $99/199 phone.

6 will be the new screen phone. How big? likely smaller than most would want here, but big enough to make a serious difference.

(I mean, once you leave iOS, and screen size is your only value vector... then most people will go 'big' [I can't afford nutrition, ambiance, heck, even flavor... but SUPERSIZE me!']. It's our survival instincts kicking in).

I really don't think there will be two sizes.

I think 4.7" is pretty much the perfect size if they want to enter the larger screen segment, and there's a big enough install base to warrant it.

Anything bigger than that is getting into a very niche market, and will again demand another resolution to develop for. Highly doubt Apple would want to do that.

I am not sure how much more the market will take, especially with some carriers offering phones out of contracts? I just think there will be upgrades done, I just would not count on a ton of Android users defecting. It was the same thing they said would happen to AT&T when VZ got the iPhone, they said millions of ppl will go to VZ. That never happened, just as I think there are a lot of people keeping their devices longer now.

its a smart move by apple, the fanboys stay, and the consumers who think of the screen size as the most important feature will come from the other side, and people who left apple to try android will come back too because now they are use to the larger screen

win win win

oh wait I forgot about the "tight jeans" crowd thats not happy.

I personally wear designer jeans and my 4.7" S3 fits fine in the pocket, so not sure the tight jean arguement works

If Apple and annalists think that just releasing an iPhone with a larger display is going to steal Android costumers away they are going to be severely disappointed.

Will it sell a small number only interested in big screens. Yeah. But that number is pretty small.

A large number of us use Android because we like it. I use the HTC One not because of it's 4.7 inch screen but because I have an overall better user experience using the HTC One than on the iPhone. From the software to the front facing speakers and everything in between. That is the reason most people use Android.

4.7 Would be Perfect , I made the switch from iPhone 5 to Nexus yes few compromises ( nothing I can't live without), decided to give 5S a shot yes I missed the build quality and the sharp apps/camera, but at the end of the day the screen felt too small and Retina is not a strong selling point to me anymore so the 5S went on Sale on macrumors marketplace, 4.7 and I won't hesitate to switch back :D

Apps look just as good on Android as they do on the iPhone. The whole Android apps look crappy is outdated nonsense. While yes you can find crappy apps they are a vast majority of which are as you say sharp. Some if they are ugly iOS ports even look better than the iOS counterpart if they use the Android App Design Guidelines as laid out by Google.

I have a Jolla these days, and I actually feel the 4.5" screen is too big (especially with any kind of bezel). Whereas the iPhone screen I can operate with ease in terms of reach, with the larger screen I more often end up in two-hand mode, and it also feels like it's going to be easier to drop the phone due to the stretch. That is despite the Jolla OS being quite optimised in terms of being to operate it with swipes anywhere.

if the battery life is still crap i'm going to the dark side. Sorry apple, love your stuff but I don't want to be tied to an outlet or have a huge battery case..

If you think that is bad, try an Android phone. The battery might be twice the size and capacity, but it'll die even faster.

I've said many times to people that if Apple made a bigger iPhone, I'd go back to have one. But my iPhones 3.5 inch screen just didn't do it for me, and plus I've always been drawn to android. I think it would be an awesome move to up the screen size. It wouldn't be forcing existing iPhone users to change, cause they would still have smaller models available, and it would bring probably 5% of android users over. 5% does matter

I buy the middle one - 4.7"

But when is it to come out? I hope in July and not September!

Around 4.7" I would certainly buy. Anything bigger wouldn't even fit in my jeans pocket, and it would be clunky as hell once you tote it inside a protective case. I've always imagined that those giant-phablet people must be carrying purses, backpacks, or man-bags all day long 24/7.

I still think that it's in Apple's best interests to keep providing the current-sized iPhones for the time being, just to see if the 4.7" size would become Apple's new default size based majority fanbase's acceptance.

Since I can't really reach my iPhone 5 screen from top to bottom without making some weird finger acrobatics, they might as well just make the step to a 4.7" inch model.

oh I see you "imagined" it, well I do currently use a 4.7 S3 and it fits just fine in my jean pocket and I wear slim fitting Deisel jeans

I remember when I I got the Droid X and everyone said "That thing is huge!" Now its the norm. My wife and I both have Note 2s and it would be impossible for me to give up the size and features of this phone. It will be the Note 4 for me when its time to upgrade unless Apple drastically changed the UI of the iphone (which I dont see them doing) I am however going to buy a Macbook Pro Retina so I am not an anti Apple guy but when it comes to my phone the iPhone doesn't check the right boxes for me and its unlikely it will this time around either.

Personal preference is all.

I think there is good demand for both 4" and 4.7", so it may end up being just those 2 sizes. And in reality, with the consistent slimming of the bezels, the 4.7" shouldn't increase the form factor that much.

I'm sure :apple: can go for less bezel and support a 5" screen in close to the same form factor as the 5S.

Larger Screen Done Right.

agreed. Apple has a lot of room for growth of their screen, while keeping dimensions close:

someone on *twitter i believe it was did some math and Apple's devices really aren't that "modern" with their effective use of real estate.

It wouldn't be done very well at all if the screen is larger and the battery, that already doesn't last very long, doesn't grow.

Also, Apple will definitely want to take advantage of a redesign to make the iPhone 6 thinner.

I only have a 5s because work pays for it. Otherwise, I'd be back on my Note 2 asap. This tiny screen has been frustrating to use. I hardly ever actually talk on my phone, but I surf and do work things a lot on it. All of these things were easier (and much more enjoyable) on that 5.5" screen. Furthermore, it was cake to carry around in my pockets. I think people don't give it a chance before they cry about how big it is.

Because of this, I'll be really happy for Apple if they finally release the iPhone in a big size (>5in).

However, all that being said, I recognize this only applies to me, and tons of you love the smaller sized iPhone. Therefore, I don't think these rumors are complete. I don't think Apple should, nor would, alienate some of their best customers by getting rid of the current size iPhone. The smart play would be to just add a larger size or two IMO. Usually, Apple does the smart thing.
