surely the delay is mini LEDs? why not release Mac mini M1x and iMac M1x now and the Macbookpros when they get enough Mini LEDs?, better hurry up before the M2 come out! ;-)
M2 is for other categories..like macbook air
So it makes sense the m1x devices to come all at the same time (minus the imac, like they did with the 24" imac)

"Apple simply does not want their devices to compete for attention" Compete for whose attention? Are Apple customers regarded as stupid? Or is Apple too small a company to work on more than product at a time?

Compete for attention by the press/media.

Will it still be butt ugly? Surface Studio looks 1000x better...
that device that is still new but will not support their own operation system windows 11?!
That was another try and failed product by microsoft...like they did with the surface pro x, surface studio, surface neo and OS ...like winRT, windows 10s, 10x ...so much failure from Microsoft

To think that the iMac, which was iconic and symbolises the Mac spirit, will take so long for an update....
The iMac did get updated. The version they released this year is definitely the "mainstream" version. I know, we all want the "pro" size with all the faster stuff it's simply not true to say they haven't updated the iMac to Apple Silicon.

It's not that hard to simply scale the current 24" up to 32" and introduce some more premium features to it (like 6K screen, even better speakers etc).
LOL, you make it sound like they just click a few boxes in their design software and hit the "order" button to make the factory start cranking them out. I'm not an industrial designer or a supply chain manager, but I have a feeling it's maybe a little bit more complicated?

Well, 32" is an existing size utilized by many companies in their screens. Apple is already buying 32" screens from their contractor(s). Surely it's easier for them to deliver more 32" screens, instead of Apple requesting something like 28" or 29" inch screens which are not common in the industry.

23,8" (smaller iMac) is also common in the industry. I just don't see Apple inventing an unconventional screen size for their larger iMac when 32" is ready and available, and likely cheaper to deliver in mass than anything more exotic.

That isn't how it works.

The easiest size for Apple's contractors to deliver would be "whatever cuts neatly out of whatever size they're making panels for the 24" iMac from"... giving a 5.5k resolution. Or maybe 6k and 32" - but the fact the XDR display is also 32" would be a coincidence. Are the panels even from the same supplier?

Be very interesting to see what size screen they go with. 27" / 30" / 32"? They would need to change the aspect ratio to achieve 30" with something like a 5.5k (following the approach to the 24" iMac).
yes, following the approach with the 24" that is in the big sur already, we can speculate that the size will be 30" -32"...Apple will not keep the 27" aspect ratio just for one model. So, its almost clear that 27" will remain for the intel imacs and it will remain a thing of the past

Too bad. Was really hoping to see it in 2021.

Curious if we will see a non-Pro display this year.

If COVID-19 wasn't happening, i'm sure that the iPad Pro would've had an A-series chip, instead of the M1, the entry-level iMacs would've have an M1X SoC, and the higher-end MBPs, set to release this year, would've had an M2 SoC, instead of M1X, which are the rumors. In addition, I also think that higher-end iMacs would've been released alongside the higher-end MBPs, because both of these product lines target relatively the same sort of customer: pros and prosumers. I still think that the AS-version of the Mac Pro would be released at the end of this transition window and in 2022.

However, with COVID and the chip shortage, who knows? Maybe the Mac Pro will be delayed yet another year, and will be released "outside" of this 2 year transition window foretold by Tim Apple...

If this large iMac gets delayed and doesnt get released this year, then it's simply unacceptable. Tim Cook promised a two year transition and more than a year in, we've only just got one damn M1 chip and much of the Mac lineup is still waiting to be updated to Apple Silicon. To think that the iMac, which was iconic and symbolises the Mac spirit, will take so long for an update....
And not to mention that the Intel version with 10th gen Intel is just getting so old

It's not that hard to simply scale the current 24" up to 32" and introduce some more premium features to it (like 6K screen, even better speakers etc).
Hasn't it been just over a year since the announcement of the transition? Almost half the Mac line-up, with low-end/high-volume machines being prioritised, has already switched to Apple Silicon.

i'm waiting patiently. the only thing that put me off getting the new iMac was the tiny 24" display. i quite like the new design + colours but 24" is unacceptable.

Er... The media? They want each new machine to get it's own set of headlines, not have everything wrapped up in one.

I’m tired of waiting on the new MacBook Air and am most likely buying a new one next week when my state does the tax free weekend. Almost went with the new iMac but just not sure that I like the pastel colors and I think I’ll feel the same way about a new MacBook Air.

This was a given.
There are way too many other pressing products to get out on time this year. Notably new iPhones and MacBook Pros. Much greater volume = greater revenue.

The M1 Air is great. You won't be disappointed.

I'm dying here, Apple. Holding out for product attention is not the Apple way. I'm ready for a new "iMac Pro" now. Been ready all damn year.

Are Apple customers regarded as stupid?
Not necessarily stupid but Apple customers have always craved a simple product line, where capability (however you measure it) is a simple function of price. Hence they’ve always had a limited product line bolstered by limited technical customisation (as opposed to a myriad of marketing driven colour choices).
Or is Apple too small a company to work on more than product at a time?
Yes (almost). Regardless of the company’s size, at the pinnacle there are only a very small number of people making the “strategic” decisions that affect the company for years. When they lose focus, the whole company loses focus.

Apple regards it's customers as stupid. That has been apparent for many years.

I hope this is true. That is the prefect timeframe for me and I have been waiting on this iMac to be released.

People can be both intelligent - and also less likely to get excited by three products that launch at once.

I'm a marketing consultant for technology companies.

And I buy most products that Apple make.

But I'm still more likely to buy their equipment when it's leaked out month-by-month.
