Triangulation, feature released with iPhone firmware 1.1.3 and later.

One has to be clueless to think an employee would get their hand on anything new to show to the press before it's officially released by Apple.

Yeah, there were iPhones under a big iPod Touch sign, and employees in that section were walking around with the little iPhone boxes. I saw at least ten.

Today is the Day

Just shirts was all I saw. The staircase is VERY cool. Very high energy level with all the employees and crowd. Great night and a lot of fun being there.

I work across the street; walked over after work and got in line around 5:15. I was around the corner, just past Newberry St. at that point. The line moved quickly after the store opened at 6pm and I was in the store around 6:30. I hung around for about an hour and then left to catch my train.

Here's a YouTube link to a short iMovie I made after I got home last night.

Local news stations reported on the sales

So it was interesting how the local TV stations covered the opening. The ones who gave the best extensive coverage were the Channel 7(NBC) and Channel 25(Fox) stations. Channel 7 covered the hype and the sight to see a line stretching down 4 blocks on Fairfield.

I liked Channel 25's coverage too. They focused more on how non-nonsensical it seems to open a giant new flagship store in the midst of the current/impending recession. They asked a bunch of customers if they were gonna buy anything, and apparently many of them said no. They came to get a free T-shirt and to check the store out. There weren't any special sales, discounts, incentives to buy anything there.

However, they did mention how the Boston store had sold out of its iphones. While I was there, they also had to restock the shelves with airport expresses a few times. Some of the Sox players who came by, like Mike Lowell walked away with SEVERAL imacs, MB/MBPs, and software titles in their bags.

Either case, a big show it was in Boston yesterday.
