there will be a rush in mid-June no matter what... i mean, this store is going to make SO MUCH money, might as well open it asap with what they stand to make ;)

Don't forget the tens of thousands of students and faculty at Berklee up the street ALL use macs.

This store will do so well, and it will be even busier when the semester starts up in the Fall.

I don't think it's a rational thought process that causes people to wait days on end for an Apple store opening. I don't think you get anything besides a free t-shirt. But you do get to hang out with other Mac aficionados for hours on end...

Isn't the free T-shirt enough? I was at the opening of the Fair Oaks store in VA a couple of weeks ago. Just being a part of the energy was enough for me. But true once you make it in the store - yep another Apple store.

What I was wondering was is how big can you make an Apple Store? What does the store in Boston have that the Apple store in the typical mall does not? I mean there's only so much -- Apple products and peripherals...

Well I gotta say the glass cube design is nice but I would have liked to see a better more Boston like design.

I thought it would be kinda green monster themed but oh well.

I wonder how much more they'll have too, I'd imagine stuff will be a lot easier to find and navigate.

Everytime I go to the Apple store in Orlando (well both times...) it's so god damn crowded I often really don't have time to go up and use computers or anything without feeling like someone is hovering over me and waiting for me to leave.

Anyone else notice that under info on apples page it says for tommorow at 6 they will put on sale ipods mac laptops and desktops and IPHONE!! If iphone is no longer being shipped how can a new store get them in. Unless iphone 3g comes out tommorow:eek::D

Yeah, I've been traipsing to Cambridgeside for the last two years. I even took my 24" iMac there by taxi once for service at the Genius Bar. The Boylston store is definitely going to be a lot better...easily 10 times bigger, plus it's a 15-20 minute walk or 5 minute T ride from me (and most of Boston, for that matter), and I won't have to play the waiting game for a Green line to Lechmere. Yesterday to get to Cambridgeside I took a train to Government Center, then North Station and then finally to Lechmere because so few of them go the whole way through.

That's nothing, I once took my Power Mac there by bus. It's still going to be closer for me than Boylston Street, though.

Yeah, I normally don't like using taxis, and the experience that time was a reminder why when the driver started driving off while I was standing outside the taxi with the door open leaning in to pull out my iMac. He even ran over the tip of my shoe (I really got lucky on that one...that could have been a lot worse). I'm not sure it really was any better than lugging it on the Green Line would have been.

For Boston, for Boston...:D

My sister would kill me if she saw that, she graduated from B.C.

More importantly, go Sox and :apple:!

Love to hear that! I go to Boston College right now; figures they open the store just as we're leaving for summer. Anyways, why would she be mad??? That's our fight song! Go eagles baby!

If there is no new iPhone announcement today, then somebody at the iPhone workshop session on Saturday 2-3 pm has to ask the question when can I buy one again. Of course, the session leader will probably come back with a lame reply. But if you are there then please let us know the answer.

How is it there is not a single report here of any lines, etc? It's 8am CST. Anyone find any sites with pics, etc of this morning?

I might take a ride in tonight... Any other members definitely going? Parking's a fuss in the Back Bay though. I might take the T, but than again, that takes longer from where I am (Worcester).

I'm happy about this, seeing that I am going to be living on Huntington Ave in August (I'll be attending Mass College of Art + Design). Hopefully I'll be able to save some money... With an Apple store being a 5 minute walk, eek!

Just walked by there this morning on my way to the nearby Stahbucks. As of 9:30, there were about 15 people in line.

The sidewalk in front the store itself is clear. The line was fenced off about 20' or so down the sidewalk from the front of the building. There were a couple :apple: security guys making sure no campers got too close, and bunch of Boston Police collecting double-time and peering in the window.

Parking's not that hard. Street spaces are easy to find at that time. Plus, the Sox are out of town.

Only people who live as far away as you do think it's hard to find parking. Hard for those folks is not being able pull right in front of where you want to be and find a spot within 30 seconds.

I'll be there.

if i get there at like 7 do you think there will be any t shirts left? how quickly do apple stores usually run out?

I would think people who get there after 4 probably won't get one.

However, we have learned that Apple will hand out customized Red Sox iPod sox to visitors

oh yes!

I wasn't able to take a pic, but as of 5 minutes ago, that line has tripled. Still a pretty tame, albeit comical, showing.

I'll show up at 6:00, after I get out of work. Anyone in Boston meeting up?

I'm the first in the "second" line forming now on Fairfield St. I got here around 2pm, and just missed the cut off for the first line.

It's starting to fill up now. People are walking by us and looking at us like we are weirdos. :D

btw, I'm able to connect to the Apple Store's free wifi network, no one else around me can.

The guy demoing the iPhone to the reporter said that it had "automatic GPS" so it could find where you are... anyone taking bets on if he's just clueless about the triangulation technology or if he's holding the coveted new 3G iPhone?

I'm betting on clueless.
