I suspect there are a lot of people who'd be quite happy to have such a boring phone, rather than splurge insane amounts of money on the high end models whose additional functionality are often gimmicks as opposed to practical must haves.
Is good battery life a gimmick? The battery on the current SE is very bad and it most probably will be the same if not worse in this upcoming SE.

This 2022 SE is supposed to have:
  1. The same design as the 2017 iPhone 8(5 years old)
  2. The same bezel design as the 2014 iPhone 6(8 years old)
  3. The same camera sensor, speakers, screen as the 2017 iPhone 8(5 years old)
  4. The same color scheme as the 2020 SE. (They could have give us a new color maybe blue?)
  5. Almost the same battery capacity as the iPhone 6(8 year old) 1810mAh vs 1824mAh
I am really disappointed with this phone. The 11 at $499 is worth for the battery life alone. Apple could have just updated the 11 or the XR with 5G and A15 and could have sold it for $499.

If they don't do some upgrades on the camera then its really boring upgrade.

I have the current SE and was hoping to surprise my partner with this new one but if this is all we get than maybe get discounted SE might be better choice. Lets see how they play this.

Exactly. I just ordered a 64GB Product(RED) iPhone SE for $199. It's going to be a great phone at a great price. I didn't think I'd ever go back to an iPhone, but I couldn't pass it up for that price.

Since the introduction of the original SE, it represents the greatest bang-for-the-buck iPhone and if this rumor turns out to be true, that tradition will continue. Apple just needs to hold the line on the price.

3. Storage: 64/128/256GB.
- No, won't have a 256GB option. Simply because then it becomes too expensive for budget buyers.

5. Casing: white, black, and red.
Not really - Starlight, Midnight & Project Red. I am already not trusting this guy.

6. Similar form factor design to current SE. -
Unfortunate but also quite true. Because no leaks about new design with notch.
Currently, the cheapest iPhone that Apple offers a 256 option is the iPhone 12 mini at $749. If the SE uses the current upgrade cost, the iPhone SE with 256 will be $549. Buyers that value a lower price can stick with the 64 and buyers that value price+storage will buy the 256 and save $200. Also, white, black and Product Red are the current SE options, I strongly doubt they will give it new colors if they are still using the older design.

I do care as I got the SE in 2020 (upgrading from iPhone 6).
I refused to have the notch and the lack of touch id bothers me on the new models so I'm personally happy that Apple keeps this design around. You get amazing phone for fraction of the cost. Also, the size is much nicer for my small(ish) hands so I can easily control this with one hand. I couldn't do the same with iPhone 11 Pro when I got it to test it if I can actually use it (returned it after 2 weeks).
Most people upgrade their phone every year or 2 but I bet you that in a week most of them forget about the differences and just realise that it works just as well as the one they had previously. At the end of the day its just a phone and the progression is super small these days so longer cycles are where you notice it day by day. ;-)

Does anyone really care about it tho it’s the same se again it’s just the same old boring phone with 5g

I think a lot of people still want a physical home button with TouchID and I think that Apple knows that, it's probably why they are still selling this design.

Very strange it includes mmWave. Even it is coming from Kuo I seriously doubt it. It is basically iPhone SE with 5G and A15?

Still think it is absurd a $399 phone only has 64GB in 2022.

Yeah, I much prefer that. Its just more intuitive.
I have the M1 iPad Pro and I have to say that the gestures often don't work as flawlessly as with the button. Sometimes I have to do it more than once.
With a button it just works.

At one point is it too expensive to still keep the TouchID around?
That's an interesting question. I am a big fan of Touch ID over Face ID, and I don't believe all the issues would be solved with an under-screen fingerprint reader. It did NOT prevent me from upgrading my SE 2020 to a 13 mini, but it certainly gets in the way of my considering it a slam dunk wonderful upgrade for me.

I might consider switching back to the SE 2022, but the 2020's two biggest weaknesses are the battery and the camera, and those won't improve much, if at all. There will be some added efficiencies with the newer chip that might help the battery go for longer, and added muscle that improves the phone's Deep Fusion capabilities with regards to photos, so I don't expect there to be zero improvement.

would make much more sense to copy the iPhone 11 and make the new SE from that and delete that from the lineup....
I don't agree: making it an iPhone 11 would be the end of Touch ID in the iPhone lineup, and I believe there is still a significant number of people that prefer it.

Here's the math: 100% of lkalliances on the Macworld boards prefer Touch ID to Face ID. That suggests that 100% of users prefer Touch ID to Face ID! ;)

Can't wait for the SE to come out! :D if it has better battery life, I may consider one.

Expensive? What extra is it costing Apple to use old tech that R&D is already paid for? Would I prefer to see TouchID move to the power button or under the glass? Sure , but this is Apple's entry level budget phone. If TouchID weren't cost effective...they'd dump it.

I highly doubt that you have access to information that Kuo doesn’t regarding unreleased Apple products, so presumably either he is referring to Starlight and Midnight as “white” and “black” — like most regular people probably do — or they just aren’t changing the colors.

In either case, I don’t see why that’s reason not to trust Kuo given his overall excellent track record.
