Exactly. I just ordered a 64GB Product(RED) iPhone SE for $199. It's going to be a great phone at a great price. I didn't think I'd ever go back to an iPhone, but I couldn't pass it up for that price.

Since the introduction of the original SE, it represents the greatest bang-for-the-buck iPhone and if this rumor turns out to be true, that tradition will continue. Apple just needs to hold the line on the price.

Where did you get that price?

Yeah, yeah, I know - "but people wouldn't buy the more expensive iphones if a cheaper, larger iphone existed". ?
Why wouldn’t they? An SE Plus with the antiquated bezels with Touch ID wouldn’t steer a majority of users back from Face ID models unless they really hated Face ID. Size matters but isn’t everything. (that’s what she said)

I keep hearing how the SE2 battery life isn't great..

...so why are we excited about them adding 5G (known battery hog)?
It’s the same if not better in some areas compared to the other models that shared that design. But it basically gets 2017 battery life in 2020. Not BAD as it’s the same as before but relative to the new kids on the block, it underperforms.

That said, yeah 5G should put a hurtin’ on it unless the difference between A13 and A15 when it comes to efficiency is that big. And it might be.

Looking at the video and audio battery run times for the iPhone 11 (3110 mAh) vs the iPhone 13 (3227 mAh) I’d say it’s much more efficient as I doubt the extra 117 mAh accounts for much of the 2 - 15 extra hours gained depending on the task.

Thankfully, 5G isn’t available everywhere yet so many SE 2022 users won’t even have to worry about it draining the battery, plus they have the option of letting the OS decide if 5G will impact their battery or not via 5G Auto.

Expensive? What extra is it costing Apple to use old tech that R&D is already paid for? Would I prefer to see TouchID move to the power button or under the glass? Sure , but this is Apple's entry level budget phone. If TouchID weren't cost effective...they'd dump it.
I think the “expensive“ context here isn’t about R&D or manufacturing cost as I also believe Apple had way past that. It’s the prolonged support for iOS updates because Apple needs to keep including TouchID support for the next few years, while only using it for cheaper hardware such as iPhone SE or non-Pro iPads.

If Apple proudly believe in FaceID for higher end iPhones or iPads, then keeping TouchID on the side for iOS is indeed expensive.

TouchID will remain as it's the only biometric for Macs. So until Apple completely put FaceID on everything they have, and drop support on all TouchID devices, Apple better start thinking how to design macOS and iOS to support more than one biometric authentications.

Seems to me that an "SE" should omit 5G completely (for now) and just have the processor efficiency gains go right to battery life improvements.

5G is such a subjectively useful nothing burger right now.
I just don't even see the point other than to put it up on the Keynote slide as an "upgrade" item.
The problem is it would not sell well considering lower spec Android Phones are starting to get 5G.

This is a really boring, odd new model - except for a segment of people for whom it’s the only sensible choice.

The battery life issue has to do with IOS, not the hardware. IOS 15 beta can drain my battery in 1 hour. It seems to do that when my EarPod Pro and the phone aren't playing nice together. Also, people aren't taking into account the new Apple bluetooth spy network, which can't be turned off, BTW.

There was absolutely no need to release a new SE in only 2 years.

I always thought the 4 year release cycle for SE was good. All this for the sake of 5G, what was apple thinking here?

Also a lot is being highlighted about the A15, but surely as someone who uses SE2 which has A13, are you really going to notice a big difference?

This phone is for lightweight users and how does 5G helps with the battery btw ?

I suspect there are a lot of people who'd be quite happy to have such a boring phone, rather than splurge insane amounts of money on the high end models whose additional functionality are often gimmicks as opposed to practical must haves.
can confirm. all i want is a phone that can run ios in blazing fast manner. that's literally all i care about. also the small size is cherry on top. the se series is for people like me.

5G would probably be a good reason since it is hard to sell a phone with an outdated cellular radio. Apple was thinking of sales.

I fully agree. About two years ago, I bought four 2020 SEs for the family for $250 each, and these phones have been incredibly reliable. My brother-in-law just got a new iPhone 13 for free when he signed up with a new internet provider. He prefers his SE. Why? He like Touch ID and the home button. Also, one handed operation and pocket ability is better on the SE.

The 2020 camera is good but not great. It would be nice if they could improve it without impacting the price, but I dont know if it is possible.

The battery life has never been a problem for me. When I go for longer sailing trips and use gps all day, I just throw a small portable battery in my backpack. Otherwise, I have no problem getting all day usage from my SE.

The SE is a wonderful phone for the price, which explains why it is so popular.

Through a carrier? Where can you get it for $199? Thanks
AT&T has had the 12 Mini (generation past the 2020 SE, more cameras, bigger screen, better cameras, smaller and lighter, with 5g, and higher resolution) for $1 a month lately ($36)

That was from before Christmas until the last week or so. Now it's jumped in price to $8.75 a month ($315), even for $199 that's still a lot more phone for $115 more than that $199.99.

These aren’t new rumors. They should use the XR and have all phones in their lineup using FaceID. Plus, bigger phone for bigger battery for the 5G chip.

There could be a surprise in that the iphone SE that they reveal on Tuesday is in fact the iphone SE Plus, and based on the 8+ Chassis. This would make sense in terms of battery size for 5G.

hoping the battery life is improved somehow. my middle-schooler has this phone and keeps it on during the school days (but on silent) and only takes it out at lunch...and by the end of the school day the battery is almost dead.
That’s shocking. My SE 2016 is better than that! Mine was charged last night and used briefly this morning and then for a while at lunchtime. It still has 90% battery left.

Is that typical for the SE2020’s battery? If it’s really that bad I won’t be buying the 2022 one after this event unless the battery gets an upgrade. I guess I’d have to go back to the 12 mini, with it’s headache-inducing screen ?

and they will probably call it revolutionary anyway.

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared six "predictions" for the third-generation iPhone SE, providing several new insights into details about the device.

iPhone-SE-2022-Red-Feature.jpg

Repeating information from previous rumors, Kuo claims that the third-generation iPhone SE will feature the same design as the current model, the A15 Bionic chip, and 5G connectivity, but there are several new details.

Kuo expects the iPhone SE to add a new 256GB storage option in addition to the existing 64GB and 128GB options, and clarifies that the iPhone SE's 5G capabilities will include both mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, which was not previously known. The mention of the A15 Bionic chip also seems to dispel uncertainty around rumors that suggested the next-generation iPhone SE could get the A14 Bionic instead.

In addition, the tweet confirms that the iPhone SE will continue to feature the same White, Black, and Red color options offered with the current model, with no new colors available. It may also be worth noting that camera upgrades are noticeably absent from Kuo's expectations.

Kuo added that mass production for the new iPhone SE begins this month and that Apple is expecting to ship 25 to 30 million units this year.

Ming-Chi Kuo is an analyst for TF International Securities and often reveals accurate insights into Apple's plans. Kuo normally shares his information in official notes to investors and has never shared information of this kind on Twitter before.

Apple is widely expected to unveil the third-generation iPhone SE at its "Peek Performance" event on March 8. The company seemingly filed new iPhone SE models in regulatory databases in January, indicating that the launch of the device is imminent.

Update: MacRumors was initially unable to verify that the @mingchikuo account belonged to Ming-Chi Kuo, but we had no reason to doubt its authenticity beyond the unprecedented nature of a tweet of this kind. Kuo subsequently confirmed to MacRumors that he is the owner of the account.

Why would anyone “leak” information about a product that’s going to be presented in 4 days?
The leaked information doesn’t have any value being so close to the official unveiling.

I’ll tell you why — Clicks. It’s all about clicks and getting attention for himself.
it's not just about curiosity. it also has an impact on investment decisions people make on buying/shorting apple and the suppliers they depend on.

It is very silly seen from the consumer's perspective.

But Apple is making iPhones to make money above all:

You can't have a strong, easily comprehendible product lineup with excellent product segmentation if the $399 smartphone is as fast as the $699 smartphone and both have a modern, contemporary design.

The SE can never get more than a few flagship features. If it were to get a new, unique and modern design in conjunction with getting the latest A15 chip, it would start to eat sales of more expensive iPhones and that's exactly what a smartphone manufacturer wants to avoid.
I respectfully disagree.

Samsung seems to do great with their excellent mid-rangers like the A5x and A7x series, and with much lower sales, so does Google with their mid-range Pixel A series.

Yes. I have used my wife's SE. The battery life was good... so good that (as I previously mentioned) I ordered one for myself. I'll definitely keep an eye on battery life and try to quantify my usage to help people have a perspective on what to expect given a particular use.
Just following up on my previous post. (tagging @AmazeSE) Please note I am referring to the 2020 iPhone SE.

After receiving the phone, allowing it to do its indexing and other initialization, I made the usual tweaks that I do with my iPhones to maximize battery life. Battery life appears to be slightly less than what I was experiencing with my SE1... but nowhere near enough to warrant the complaints made by Youtubers.

Usage over a 48 hour period, two dozen texts sent, full email syncing and reading, push notifications for all apps, four phone calls lasting a total of 10 minutes, reading news for a total of about 30 minutes... battery went from 100% to 75%.

I've never had an iPhone that lasted as long as my Android handsets so I never was thrilled by iPhone battery life.

It's an excellent upgrade from my Galaxy A20 and I'm thoroughly delighted with it even though losing the headphone jack and support for microSD cards was a step back. I highly recommend getting one (especially at $199 for the 64GB model).
