I use my 12.9” iPad Pro like an ‘iPad’. I mostly use it in portrait mode with an Apple Pencil.

if you have your iPad mounted in one of those keyboard thingys I pity you. What you really need is a laptop.

i really hope the pros get the landscape camera, otherwise that is going to be a strange line up for the next 18 months

A last-minute leak has insisted that the upcoming 10th-generation entry-level iPad will feature a landscape FaceTime camera.

An image of a screen protector allegedly for the upcoming iPad was shared on Twitter by Majin Bu and shows a horizontal cutout hole on the front for the FaceTime camera. The repositioning of the camera was previously rumored by the Japanese blog Mac Otakara. A landscape FaceTime camera would be better suited for video calls when the iPad is attached to an accessory, such as the Magic Keyboard.

Apple is expected to announce new M2 iPad Pros later today, as teased by Apple CEO Tim Cook and the Apple Store going down. An announcement of the 10th-generation iPad, which is expected to feature an updated design and USB-C, is also possible. Stay tuned with MacRumors for ongoing coverage of today's expected announcement.

New Mac mini incoming.

Ugh I hope they don’t put the camera in landscape. iPads are meant to be tablets 99% of the time. The loud people screaming for a landscape camera are the same type of people who screamed for a mini iPhone and look how that turned out.

Disagree with the one. I would bet people using FaceTime have the iPad in landscape sat on a table 99% of the time

"A landscape FaceTime camera would be better suited for video calls when the iPad is attached to an accessory, such as the Magic Keyboard."

It also would make perfect sense for the "docking mode" that was rumored to be coming next year to fuse the homepod and iPad.

How do you know that? I never use it in that orientation except for games.
He literally mentioned it in his comment « The cases all suggest it should be this way. ».

And I agree with him. Have you seen the gazillion students with their keyboard attached to their iPad.

In witch orientation do you think they use their iPad?

Only one front-facing camera, but a new side-positioned cutout connects to the existing camera via a network of mirrors

Next iPad is the one to get... you know... the island!

That said... landscape facetime camera is the game changer lol.

I think I’m one of the only people who uses their iPad in portrait mode 99% of the time and prefers the camera to be in portrait
Well, one of the only two people, surely. I use my iPad Pro M1 and iPad mini 6 in portrait mode almost exclusively.

Not the people I know. When I think of everyone I know with an iPad, it's about a 75/25 split, with way more using it in portrait. It's more natural in portrait for non-techies. If you're used to using a computer, maybe you prefer landscape - but everyone else (which is, "normal" non-technical people) use portrait. It's more natural and easier to use when reading (and not just books, also web pages, etc.)
My experience is this: I don’t know anyone who uses their iPad in Portrait. I’ve been using iPads since 2010 and have used it in Landscape most of that time for most uses. This would be an interesting survey to conduct, don’t you think?

The fact that non-techies hold it the way it is shown on the box and instructions isn't very compelling. With iPad's aspect ratio, there isn't anything that is dramatically better in portrait, including reading. The only time I rotate my iPad to portrait is to look at a portrait photo. The cases force it into landscape. Watching video, one of iPad's top used features and use cases, is obviously done in landscape.

And ever since iPad Pro gained Face ID, every single time I need to use it, my hand is covering it. For this reason alone, the camera should be moved. It's always going to be wrong for one of the orientations, so let it be wrong for portrait.

if the M2 pro models, don't have & the other iPad does, lots of people will just get the M1 IPP, myself included, to save money & upgrade in 2 years

I use mine in both orientations. Frequently when I'm using the iPad as an e-reader, it's in portrait mode, especially when it's not docked to the magic keyboard. I prefer to read e-books with the iPad undocked from the Magic Keyboard and in portrait mode. In fact, I think any time my iPad is not docked to the keyboard, it is used in portrait mode, otherwise it's in landscape.

Shifting the camera to landscape mode won't solve the problem for me. It merely makes the problem go to the "other side" of the iPad.
Are people really using the iPad camera to “read e books?”

Let’s call a camera shift what it is, better for Zoom / video conferencing calls which a lot of people do with their iPads now. Outside of selfies, what portrait use are people actually using the camera for?

Watch the Pro not get the orientation change but dynamic island instead, then the normal iPad gets the orientation but no dynamic island. Gotta sell the iPad somehow so pick your poison!
Holy ****, I was actually right about the iPad landscape mode. Wow Apple.
