I can see this being a huge disappointment of a release.
Dark mode doesn't exactly fix the aging look and lackluster features of what could be done with the technology there.
13 years later and there is still no way to mass move icons other than one by one.
Screens and screens of jumbled icons that become just unused because they're lost and the folders just don't work well enough. Why on earth you're restricted to 9 icons in a folder when the phone is capable of displaying 24 icons.

Same design/black. Just isn't enough.
Bruh you can already do both things

I'm more excited about a new reminders app than Dark Mode. I hate the current one and haven't found one that fits me well yet.
For me, they just need to add repeat from completion. Surely this would be trivial? I have tried so many other reminder apps, all complete overkill. I'd love to be able to just use the native app.

Amazing how many people complain no matter what.

Same people who wanted dark mode for years now getting it still have gripes about it.....blows my mind.

I for one am happy as can be.

Improvements to ‘reminders’ and ‘calendar’ and aesthetically pleasing OS, thank you Apple. Though it took long enough I’m grateful.

It’s quite depressing that they will make a big deal of a secondary feature like a dark mode (that’s could have been introduced in any random dot release) and they probably won’t give us any proper new feature. This is going to be another disappointing release. I hope I am wrong, but if iOS 10-11-12 thought us anything is that Apple doesn’t care that much about introducing new exciting features anymore.

Here you are wrong, they do care about announcing new and exciting features, its just they don't have any and drop back to call any old change an exciting and new feature. Exiting and new features require commitment and time, something either Apple's marketing team does not allow for or Apple's management does not understand.

Customisation, proper customisation, will always belong to Android. If you want to switch up your home screen that badly, then I'm afraid you'll have to switch OS. Apple will never offer that level of customisation on their iPhones.

Who else is convinced Dark Mode will be OLED exclusive? (Can I bet money on this somewhere?)
As popular as the XR is, I’ll bet against you. Not a chance they would exclude their most popular selling device.

And what’s with all of the pessimism on the release. It’s not even out yet and people are lamenting what’s not included in iOS 13. WTH? :confused:

Not in a very intuitive way.
Alright, what more intuitive UI would you propose for this, then? Since this is consistent with how drag-and-drop works throughout iOS, keep in mind that what would work on the home screen must also then work in apps.

They always are. At least for tech-savvy ones.
On the other hand, expectations are always high sky! I mean, really really high!
Beyond comprehension level of high expectation. I am still surprised since 2013. Also, coolness is not enough to get the job done.

Actually, you can indeed move as many icons/apps as you'd like. Long press an app, while they're jiggling, click on the apps you want to move one at a time and they will get stacked and ready to be moved.

Nail. Head. Hit.

The gridded icon view made sense before the App Store when everything was on one page; and when the phones were smaller so everything was easier to reach. Now, I don’t even bother to organise icons or even know where they are most of the time—apart from some of my most frequently used apps (that I place in easier to reach locations) and the ones in the dock that is. I just Spotlight search the rest. So what’s the point of even having all those pages of apps you have to scroll through ad infinitum? The situation looks even more ridiculous on the relatively cavernous iPad screen (though reachability is less of an issue there).

iOS is beyond overdue for a major overhaul.

I have an idea for an app-searcher/launcher UI that:
  • Exists on a single page;
  • Is navigable easily on any screen size without the need for hacks like “reachability”;
  • Is fun and novel yet pays homage to some previous Apple hardware;
  • Still allows you to browse installed apps if you don’t know (or have forgotten) what you’re looking for; and
  • Is quick and preserves all existing functionality.
I don’t want to describe it further in this post, but there are loads of people that have their own iOS concept ideas if you search YouTube or whatever, and they can do a better idea of presenting them than I can.

I get that with hundreds of millions of active iOS devices Apple is being conservative, but if they don’t have multiple radically different iOS designs developed they’re not working hard enough.

Hmmm ok...

Sadly not terribly excited for iOS 13 as it's shaping up to be another disappointment.

??? "Sadness." "Disappointment." Amazing, but I guess that's the impact of the internet on society-- many peoples' emotions are controlled by a single post from an anonymous source about a relatively insignificant item. In reality, these devices are already science fiction in the amazing and wonderful things they can do, and the hardware and software is constantly improving.

Objectively, the things that will be discussed in the keynote and the days that follow at WWDC are innovations that should leave all of us, from a tech perspective, amazed and excited to be living at a time when you have a company with tens of thousands of employees spending over a billion dollars a month researching and developing how they can bring you even greater technology.

Actually you can move more than one icon at a time.... wiggle your icons, move an icon and then with another finger tap all the other ones you want to move...

Exactly not to mention can’t even try multitask or split screen. I mean you can on the iPad, people with plus size and Max phones should be able to. Why can’t I FaceTime while doing something else.
Split screen...I can see this could be a bad idea for app to properly display contents on a small iPhone screen compared to the iPad. Cool to have but I don’t put my money on this hoping Apple will ever give one. Very limited version maybe.

I'm hoping it will be worth staying awake.
I am in Sydney, and there are still two hours I have to wait. Umm, gonna care more about my head than WWDC. I can catch up later and maybe install iOS 13 beta 1 just like all tech reviewers do.

I mean, Apple is probably holding off on an iOS design overhaul until they completely redesign the iPhone(next year?) no? And use the term "redesign the iPhone" loosely because they'll most likely use the current iPad design and implement it to the iPhone, which is the exact same design they used years ago for the iPhone 4/5.

I think you can want (or complain about the lack of) dark mode and still be underwhelmed by a major annual iOS update that adds it. Dark mode is just a reskin after all.

Yes it would take a bit of work to do well, but it’s not a killer new feature and arguably (as you yourself point out) something that could’ve been added years ago, so people are looking for more than that.

It’s looks so Fisher-Price basic.

Holding hope for some true redesign and more robust features one day.

He’s only been trying for 13 years; give him a chance.
:D Hahaha I can't believe it's taken this long to know this! Which iOS version was this introduced?

Honestly now WWDC has just become so much better for me! So embarrassing!

Keynote hasn’t happened yet but people here are already telling us what a disappointment it was. NID. No matter what Apple announced people here would be disappointed.

You can mass move icons.
Folders do support more than 9 icons.

Is anything you wrote correct?
I actually was referring to the display of 9 icons on a wasted screen when there are pages of folders.
The icon moving thing I never knew about. One incorrect statement doesn't disregard my whole post.

Least I can see the funny side of being incorrect and am more than happy to be corrected.
