well.. the iPhone doesn't have DVD resolution either...
720p would be nice to have, don't think it's a requirement for them to view HD videos with it, though. a little squashed might be just fine :p
It just seems that one of the things people like to tout around is "HD movies." If you're watching it on a screen less than 720p, it's no longer an "HD movie."

It's to block out the face of the person taking the picture, and the post-it over the screen (probably says something like "prototype 5" or something.)

Bummed that this is... it. No multitasking?

I'm sorry but how in the name of all that's holy do you know it's got no multitasking? Even if this photo is legit it's a single photo, of a single application, clearly running in a lab. It shows NOTHING of the underlying interface, nothing of how you interact with the device, nothing of any real substance to be honest other than the screen res is way up and it looks great (the glossy thing people are already bitching about is exactly the same as the iPod Touch I've got sitting next to me and I've never had a problem with that outdoors or in direct lighting at all).

On the subject of bitching is it too much to hope that everyone applies a wee bit of common sense here? Of course you're going to have to pay a contract if you want 3G connectivity (if that capacity exists in whatever they show today) - a normal iPhone user gets through hundreds of megabytes a month if not more, throw in a bigger screen and ebooks and content creation (hopefully) and expecting that to be included ala Kindle is just stupid.

It's not going to run full desktop OS X applications because, again, this is stupid. They're not built for a touch interface, the user experience would be horrible, they'd be slow, clunky and take up vast swathes of memory to install and run.

It's not going to be cheap. Of course we don't know the hardware specs yet but a 64Gb iPod Touch costs £306. Add in a bigger screen, probably double the ram and whatever other hardware upgrades there are over the touch and you're going to be looking at somewhere in the £500 region at the very least.

There's at least a dozen other common complaints that show a lot more people than I'd have expected seem to be living on Moon Base Zappa rather than planet Earth. I know it's the build up to a life changing, epoch-defining, pants-wettingly awesome event (note, actual event may not match hype) but is just a moment, a single moment, of calm reflection and logical analysis too much to ask?

I totally agree with you.

I find it really hard to understand how people are expecting this thing NOT to look like a giant iPhone? Surely the aim is for a thin bezel with a slick screen going as far out to the edges as possible. A home button is a great shortcut, and especially so if you can set it up to take you where you most frequently want to go. Add in a bit of metal to make it look expensive, and you have, surprisingly, an iPhone! I really don't see how that look can be improved upon. I certainly would hate to have a thick bezel just for the sake of it...

Because trying to be conspicious is hard if you're holding a £700 DSLR....

Camera phones aren't great picture takers.
my phone takes a good pic but i get your point not really suppose to be taking pictures of it i guess rush rush job to show something no one really knows about

I've just woke up and had a controlled leak. It used to be uncontrolled till the age of eleven or so, it was a problem at sleep overs.

I am well aware of that. But looking at the other Apple products out there... I don't think it's realistic.

1) the iPhone's resolution is not even VGA, let alone DVD - although technically possible

2) there's no Apple product out there that can read Blurays... yeah, you can download HD movies from iTunes, but no Bluray support - and we know this is a feature that has been requested for _years_.

3) as far as I can judge from the "leaked picture" [although I honestly doubt its authenticity], it seems that the tablet's OS seems similar to the iPhone OS [judging from the top status bar and home-button], which leads me to believe that even if you could play HD-content at full res, then only by syncing it via iTunes. That again means you can only play very few formats. Was is more Max OS X based, it's be easy to install VLC or codecs to have it support all the formats/containers out there, like MPEG4, x264; AVI, MKV, MPEG, etc...

but make no mistake, I'd _love_ it to have a higher resolution, be it 720p or more. It's one of the things I wanted for the iPhone but didn't change even in the phone's third generation. Now I am getting my hopes back up, as iPhone OS 4 is being said to support scaling up to higher screen resolutions ;)

so now.. 7 more hours to go :D

Oh, I don't think so either. Apple is notorious for not making resolution a priority in their products. The 15" MBP screen is still what... 1440x900? I had a 15" HP laptop 6 years ago with a 1920x1200 screen. I'm not expecting the tablet to satisfy in this regard.

I was just responding to your comment,

By definition, yes, 720p is a requirement to view HD movies. No 720p, no HD.

Is that a new iPhone too? Doesn't seem to have the chrome bezel - looks more black (plus thats not an iPhone cable - though i know that doesn't mean much)

Wow, two leaks in one shot, amazing. :)

And yes, while there are iPhone cases that would fit on it and look just like that, why would that iPhone have a piece of yellow tape on it with info and a piece of white tape with info, like tagging info or ID stuff, just like the tablet itself.

I can't imagine just any old iPhone that belongs to any employee would have TAPE ON THE SCREEN WITH ID INFO ON IT just for kicks.

Ah, the plot thickens... ;)

Apple is going a different way. They do not prefer discs, this is a technology from the last century. the key is on demand or what you get at the itunes store. thats the future. why you should by a movie from the itunes store when you already bought a bluray at best buy? are you getting it?

Its a standard iPhone for testing. Its a test lab. Its quite clearly a standard iPhone with a case on it. Its slightly thicker/bulkier than a naked iPhone.
