I may have been slightly unclear in my earlier post. The device's ability to detect and interpret hand motions over the display will not replace but add to the existing methods of interaction, i.e. multi-touch.
Obviously for many applications gesturing with your fingers touching the screen is still preferable. But adding support for sensing at an altitude, and sensing for altitude, opens up new possibilities. Think of it as multi-touch going 3D.
And besides, it looks magical.![]()
Oh boy, my ACD is just an oversized iPhone shape!
I'm gonna cry

Forget the shape, wait for the keynote to see the real deal, the software, the UI and the interaction whit it.
Yes its all about the software it it will probably do amazing things, but if it looks like an oversized iPhone then the market its designed for (not us fanatics) will assume thats its exactly what it looks like and will not bother buy the "super-sized" version of what they already have.
I dont think you get my point...
The front end is design exactly like the iPhone down to the home button. If Apple wants to send the message that this is a completely new device that youll NEED even if you have an iPhone, then they will fail miserably if they couldn't even take the time to design it as a new device.

three other products that look like "oversized iPhones"
1 - iMac
2 - Apple LED Cinema Display
3 - Uni-body MacBook Pro (top part)
apparently when someone sees a black bezel they think of iPhone. i'm going to start spamming messages that say "looks like an oversized iMac" etc.
I think the above image is fake...Nice, I see it now. I thought it was two words. So like arn posted, are we going with this ####
as the actual bezel? Seems to match the ear piece and home button layout we are currently looking at.
Oh man I got a good laugh out of this.
(...) I've posted my rationale for 1024x768 earlier in the thread and would love to be proven wrong.
I have a strong feeling this thing will be called iPad.
