Is it going to be at least 3G capable? Of course.

Is it going to have Wi-Fi? Of course.

Will it have Bluetooth? Of course.

I doubt that in the lab situation they'd have active SIM cards inside the devices unless they were actually testing that functionality at any given time, so the "No Service" thing can be laid to rest there.

I've never understood the tethering thing myself, and since this device will at the bare minimum be a 3G-capable one, that pretty much covers it. As for actual phone use, who knows. But I'll bet that with the introduction and with whoever is the data provider for the device, we'll see an entirely new line of data plans for 'em.

No one knows where this picture was taken. If taken from an Apple lab then it's very possible and likely they don't get any reception there for a multitude of reasons.

These so-called ‘leaked’ photos are the most remarkably unremarkable images I’ve seen to date. Still, if these images are any indication of ‘a display’ then I’m happy. After all, Apple hasn’t provided a replacement for the 30-inch display in nearly three years...

AT&T has taken its sweet time to add tethering features. Did they delay the service for a reason? Tomorrow is the perfect time to surprise iPhone users with a tethering option to the tablet.

I'm sure it won't happen, but here's hoping....! :apple:

Mate, I think you're right on the money here. I've been thinking the same thing for a couple of weeks. It makes sense. Who wants to have another contract when it's likely they already have an iPhone?

If you're right, I'll buy you a beer :D

Super duper looking forward to this. The event is a 3 AM here in Tokyo time and I don't think I'll sleep a wink until then.

This isn't going to be a tablet like the recently announced HP tablet or any other.

The secret sauce is not even going to be the fact that it's a tablet. Anyone can make a tablet.

It will be content, and software. HP and Microsoft are trying to take a desktop OS designed for a keyboard and mouse, and bring it over directly as-is to the tablet. Android is trying to take an OS designed for mobile phones and bring it over as-is to a tablet. Both are lazy solutions and lack creativity, and will miss the mark.

Apple however, as usual, will introduce a revolutionary way of interacting with existing content that sucks people in, especially non-computer and non-geek people. With software that is well-designed perfectly for a tablet interface. I think we will be surprised in two ways.

The first, is the way you interact with the device. My guess is it will either be, as others here have suggested, through hand-waving gestures in the air (like the Wii, but no hardware required). Or it will be through some sort of innovative and super simple controls on the back of the device while holding it.

The second is, the way you interact with content. I think we will see magazine and textbook demos that will be like any other software interface ever seen for such content. Interactive, simple, super sleek and slick. It will actually make reading a newspaper fun!

Now I have only one question...what should I do until the event?? Walk around my neighborhood in the middle of the night to calm my excitement?

The pic on engaget looks fake and i hope. WTF is up with those screws on the sides of the tablet?

Jumping this far into a thread without at least reading some of it will do that.

The tablet device is inside a protective security casing, which is bolted onto it to not only protect it from damage, but offer the ability to keep it locked down (with cables, locks, etc) as well as keeping "prying eyes" from seeing the actual form factor (actual shape, exact material of the body, styling, contours, etc).

Perfectly normal stuff in a top secret gadget lab. :)

I think this is pretty obvious, and no doubt Apple will come up with a really intuitive way of dealing with interacting with the device. This is where I believe they will impress.

The question, however, is what will you use your tablet for? Many people are speculating at this point that it will be nothing more than a movie player/audio player/picture viewer/book reader... essentially a big iPod touch. Besides the obvious advantage of a bigger screen, does that really warrant comments like "the greatest thing Steve Jobs has ever done?" Would you pay $1,000 for a big iPod Touch?

Somewhat but, again, there would be absolutely zero reason to leave the SIM card installed in the device at any point unless they're specifically testing it on the cellular network. Apple might be rich and all, but even they don't provide their own cell service. :)

Inside the labs Wi-Fi would be the predominant network connection for many reasons... and we all know 3G ain't so secure anyway anymore, hasn't been for quite some time. :)

Tablet tethering to an iPhone for no extra charge ( a la 4.0 ) would be a real bonus for Apple users...

you've already bought the iPhone so if you have one, you can tether the tablet at no charge!

Bound to help iPhone sales no end as well....

It's beginning to look like unicorns really do exist, even my non-techie wife has been sucked into the Apple tablet aura and wants to get one. What I want to know is how many cores will be in the new Mac Pro and when. All will be revealed in a matter of hours I suppose

Knowing money grubbing AT&T... highly unlikely :(
