Is there still any hope that the Tablet will use a Pixel QI hybrid display? What do you think?

That would certainly make it better for reading paperbacks than a conventional screen, and increase the battery life.

You mean like Amazon?

I've got a Kindle 1 and 2, as well as a Nook, and what you get with their free 3G couldn't ever be considered an optimal web experience.

It's strictly an e-reader, with very limited internet utility, no matter how much they try to dress it up. Even the iPhone gives a much better internet experience despite it's much smaller screen.

With the usage that a normal tablet user would have, there's no way Apple could include the per MB cost in their media prices. People will be using this tablet constantly as an internet device.

Hadn't seen that one before, and when it started I was working on a bowl of Jasmin rice and I swear, within a few seconds I nearly spit out a mouthful all over my Tablet PC - hehehe.

I needed a good laugh as a respite from all this oh-so-serious talk about the tablet... thanks

I hate when people talk about nearly spitting because of something funny.

What's this? New Shake?

apple.com/uk/mac

As you can see, that line already existed on 2008, 2009 shake was discontinued and they just disabled the line:

This is looking more and more like a device I don't want or need. I guess my dream of an Apple-made Macbook tablet isn't going to come true and time soon .

So thats why they discontinued the Shake name!...

The tablet is going to be called Apple Shake! :D

I hate when people talk about nearly spitting because of something funny.

Damn you, now I've got coffee all over my screen! :D

Edit: Nice etch a sketch, that's what I thought of when someone mentioned 'Shake' too!

For content - I'm hoping if it's an iPhone type OS and gets its media off iTunes etc (which is looking likely) that it will sync off WiFi. I'm running out of space for USB hubs and all the leads are a mess!
(Just noticed I'm talking as if I'm certain to own one)

My take on it is this:

It will have a low powered Intel processor, maybe 1Gb or 2Gb of RAM, an SSD, and the display technology from the iPhone (why not - it works very well).

It will be running a customized build of OSX (and my opinion is that the work Apple did to Snow Leopard to cut its footprint was possibly part of it), maybe with an iPhone LOOKING UI, but with the power of OSX behind it.

I think it will be multi-tasking, but due to screen real-estate and to support advanced touch features, you will have to switch apps.

If it is as flexiable as a fully-featured computer in a form factor like this, I'm buying one, regardless of cost.

Best regards,
BigCatX.

remember when they said it would be farrr from 1k?

do you guys think that it matters?

1K/599 for an ebook reader?

ill just wait the HP/Google Slate if this thing is just a *glorified ebook reader*

*stole from another macrumors user

whats with all the white boxes?

I believe this is a photo from a test bay of some kind.

Most Likely covering up things like test dates, the name of the employee who Is testing / working on that tablet at that time. Sticker showing Wifi codes (on the router top right of the picture) etc etc.

My Predictions

It's a 10" high resolution touchscreen LCD panel with more touch points than the iPhone and has the ability to sense when someone/something is close. Patent for this was released today.

Runs a version of OS X (iPhone Kernal) Same style UI as the iPhone and iPod touch OS.

Sync'd via iTunes.

Front facing Camera.

usual Wi-Fi N , bluetooth , 6 hour battery (video) , 24 hour (books etc)

$699

Available March, Developers get SDK update today.

iPhone users get 4.0 and iTunes update with new Books and Magazine Store.

what makes you think its going to be a fully featured computer? even apple computers arent fully featured compared to what you can get on a pc for the same price. if anything it will be comparable to other netbooks, which are nowhere near fully featured computers.

I can guarantee that it isn't a fully featured computer.

This is BS... Steve called me this morning and said that there is NO tablet... it's an iTable... it has little legs... and you eat dinner off it! It's Steve's stroke of genius at work... who doesn't need a portable table to eat off of?

That's an exact description of what the iPhone OS is already now. It IS a cutdown version of OS X with an iPhone UI. Nothing else..

its just going to be a glorified iphone, with support for ebooks. the only reason i ever bought an iphone was because of the app store

Great! Your guesses are just as unfounded as anyone elses :D
