... and my hype falls even more. I'm sure here in the great outpost of Canada we won't get any good content deals, just like with the iPhone and Apple TV before it (well the iPhone is pretty much up to par now save the insane data pricing).

Updated Macbook Pro's please. My credit card is ready.

The new product will be called: the iPalet(te).
The hint for this (ofcourse) is the paintsplatter on the invitation.

It will have a revolutionary way of handling, since it can be held like a real palette. Thin and light. Lefties just rotate it, works in portrait and landscape.

See example here, the hole will be more circular in form.
The back will be matte aluminium like the new 27" imac with glossy black apple logo. Behind it (the glass of the logo) is also the front facing camera.

still hoping for a new iphone, 3Gs was big disappointment. better at least have 1GHz processor

theres no way in hell its going to have a giant hole in it, this thing isnt being catered to artists

The interface of the Maps app looks really good!! It seems to be in line with the latest iTunes look. Does anyone else notice that? I'm very excited about the new look of iPhone OS 4.0!!! YAY for new toys :)

never seen an iPhone app with that interface or at that resolution??!?

looks like a standard Maps app and the resolution SUCKS. stupid.

"No Service"...

So they went with AT&T after all....

Hahahaha excellent post.

Seroiusly, where are all these comments re: e-reader coming from? We know it will carry book and have some sort of silly low-light mode for reading which will do next to nothing.

Books aside, this device will be for much more. People expecting to see e-ink of any kind are so far out to lunch its not even funny.

I have a feeling the tablet will be a huge disappointment to many, it will still be cool and one of a kind like all apple products, but disappointing, unless its under $500 and doesn't require a contract of any kind.

what makes you think its going to be a fully featured computer? even apple computers arent fully featured compared to what you can get on a pc for the same price. if anything it will be comparable to other netbooks, which are nowhere near fully featured computers.

The iPod comes with serious amount of storage, and a big iPhone/eBook reader just wouldn't jive with other Apple products - they could just release an app for the iPhone/iPod to do that.

For Apple to create a dedicated device to just do that just doesn't seem right, when you've got Kindle and Sony in the market with already very good dedicated products. They're a little late to that party IMHO.

A tablet makes more sense - you get the power of a MacBook with the usability of the iPhone in a nice form factor. Something like that is missing in the market. If it could use bluetooth keyboard/mouse then it is ideal.

I would argue that the MBP or Mac Pros are "fully fledged computers" - just because they don't have tons of expansion slots doesn't make them any less capable. The processor, graphics, memory and audio are what really rule, next to connectivity (WiFi/BlueTooth/LAN/3G), and they have that. Everything else is USB - plenty of those, too.

Best regards,
BigCatX.

My MacRumors Blast from the Past! - Apr. 3, 2003 & Feb. 11, 2006

I googled myself [eww, sticky narcissism]... giggity... I meant my user name here "MacQuest" along with the word "iPad" and lo and behold, the first link that comes up is this:

Ahh, the memories...

Just a coincidence?

New features in Apple Remote Desktop v 1.2 released today:

- Remote Software Installation to remotely install new software to groups of Macs simultaneously over a network;
- Remote Network Startup Disk to set any number of Mac® OS X clients to start up from specified NetBoot or Network Install disk images on a remote server;
- Automatic Update for upgrading Apple Remote Desktop clients automatically over the network; and
- enhanced security including encrypted control and KeyChain® support to protect passwords and private data.

Hmmm...as a net. admin. I would like these abilities from a highly portable device [approx. the size of 2 DVD boxes stacked on top of eachother] that focuses on connectivity/accessibility, quick input of handwritten/touchpad text and graphics, playback/viewing capabilities and may not include an internal optical drive. It would be a lot more robust than a PDA while not being an inconvenient laptop.

It'd also be cool to take this gadget home as well and access a/v material from my desktop computer and control or access content from rendezvous/bluetooth/airport enabled home electronic devices without having to go to them. I could also view/write e-mail, internet content, chat, etc. without being confined to a certain room or have an obstructive laptop in front of me that isolates me from the rest of the family.

I would pay $599 for a slimmed down entry version and $899 for a hardware[ram, audio recording, combo drive?, etc.]/software upgraded version.

C'mon Apple...stop teasing us!!

Release the iPad and PowerPad already...:D
[2010 note: I called it iPad and PowerPad because this was 4 years prior to the MacBook/MacBook Pro transition from the previous iBook/PowerBook Mac notebook lines.]

...a macTablet, or an iTablet, is simply an apple version of a failed product. For apple to successfully market the tablet, Jobs and co. will need to find a new name for it.

This thing has been named a bunch of different things. I know it won't even mention tablet with how much SJ has ponted out the failure of the Tablet PC.

I'm personally leaning towards MacPAD, because it will use the Mac OS [2010 note: remember, I posted this before iPhone OS ;)] and although we want to stay away from the word tablet, we want to elude to that type of functionality. It's just that Apple will add much more functionality and make it much easier to use.

Also, I like MacPAD because it also incorporates PDA into the name, without calling it one.

"What do you call the best PDA and the best Tablet computer? Neither a PDA nor a Tablet. Introducing MacPAD."

QUICK!!! Someone call SJ and Chiat/Day! Tell them to get to work on this advertising campaign PRONTO!!!.

... present day ...

It only took SJ and Apple 7 years to submit to my whims! :p

[although I'm still betting on "iPad" for the name and had revised my dimension expectations several years back from my 2003 guesstimation of "approx. the size of 2 DVD boxes stacked on top of eachother" to that of [paraphrasing - can't find my post right now] approx. that of an 8"x10" picture frame, 8.5"x11" sheet of paper, or up to a 9"x12" clipboard size for easy single hand-holding use.]

It'll be fun to see how far off mark I am now in 2010!

Regardless, we've all got less than 4 hours left to be treated to :apple:'s new product! :D

It looks like we are really going to have to subscribe to another f**king service if this picture is really it. I don't want to have a special AT&T or Verizon subscription to make my tablet work. I just want a simplified laptop or an iPhone with more real estate and video chat.

Does anybody see a camera on the front of this thing?

Totally agree with you on that, my iPhone is great if I really need something and can't connect to a wifi. But if I am at home or a starbucks would love to use a tablet just don't need a 3g connection then. and with a over $200 at&t bill already not really looking forward to a $250+ bill. we will see in just a few hours :)

Why do you assume that you cannot operate it without 3G connectivity or that it would only be sold with a contract?

My iPhone works fine on the internet with a locked Sim card over WIFI.

that's seriously brilliant! perhaps the most insightful cmt i've read on the subject. it would solve the handling/input issue as well as allowing for future touch sensitive input on the back. and of course the tie-in w/ the paint on the invite is icing on the cake.

unfortunately, i just don't see it happening, because i'd imagine the fandom having an irrational "ew, it has a hole in it" response. here's hoping, though.

Who actually cares about "leaked" photos, when its simply a matter of 3.5 hours until we all discover what is or isn't released?.

I think this is pretty close to what were going to see today.

For apple naysyaers, and pundits, those that say its going to be a glorified iphone.

Get a grip. I'm not sure why you all stick around here with the people who are truly excited about what were going to see today, just negatve people I guess.....

Apple always if nothing else does revolutionary game changing things. They never do anything in a small way or design something that would look like a retread.

No matter what happens today, its going to be a very big deal and something we have not seen before and they are going o sell a lot of them.

I'll buy one for sure, not matter what!
