I doubt it because they are different images... Maybe it was something at one point... Look at my point...

The connectors on this are different than on the next image...

BUT... The apple logos are the same direction.

They look the same to me - except the first one actualy has the switch in the hole. Imagine what an iPhone would like like without the rocker volume switch - probably not dissimilar to the hole in the second pic

The rugged looking case is most likely bolted or tethered to the desk simply so that the device doesn't walk out with one of the testers. In short, it's a security device, not actually part of the tablet.

I very much doubt it. Look at the second image, the case is moving with the device. It would be a horribly crude way to secure it with such a humongous case. Also note that it has openings for the camera and on button. Finally, why would it be bolted safe if it's not for sale yet?

The MS Courier concept stuff looks amazing. Kudos to them if they can get anything near that into the market for a reasonable price.

It does look very useful, but its scope is not the same as the Apple Tablet, I'd say. Looking forward to both really.

Apparently someone has the specs and has posted them

Jason Calacanis publishes Apple tablet specs

By Julianne Pepitone, staff reporterJanuary 27, 2010: 9:20 AM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Tech exec Jason Calacanis claimed via Twitter that he has been testing the Apple Tablet slated for release later Wednesday, tweeting details about the device's capabilities.

Calacanis, the chief executive of Mahalo.com and founder of the Weblogs network, is well known in the tech and blogging worlds. Around 7:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, his verified Twitter account @jason tweeted: "Yes, it's true... I've been beta testing the Apple tablet for the past two weeks and it's amazing."

Apple is widely expected to release a touch-screen tablet computer around 1 p.m. ET Wednesday at an invite-only event in San Francisco. Rumors say the device will look like a huge iPhone, with a 10-inch screen.

About an hour after his first tablet tweet, Calacanis posted another message to his 92,000 Twitter followers that he would not break a non-disclosure agreement with Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500).

Despite that message, however, Calacanis proceeded to post 19 more messages in quick succession detailing the tablet's functionality.

Among the highlights he claims:

* Built-in HDTV tuner and digital video recorder

* Two cameras

* Video conferencing

* Thumbpads and fingerprint security

* Wireless internet connection to other tablets

* Solar pad for recharging

Calacanis's claims are impossible to confirm, as the Cupertino-Calif.-based Apple has not commented on any of the swirling rumors. The company famously remains tight-lipped about upcoming products and often releases them at invite-only industry events.

Also, Calacanis is known for anti-Apple rants and has pulled pranks on the blogosphere in the past. He did not post anything about the tablet on his personal site, calacanis.com.

The rest of the Twittersphere was also abuzz with tablet chatter. "Apple Tablet," "apple," "iSlate" and "iTablet" were four of the top 10 trending topics early Wednesday. And two photos circulating around the blogosphere reportedly stemmed from a Twitter account, though their validity is questionable.

well.. the iPhone doesn't have DVD resolution either...
720p would be nice to have, don't think it's a requirement for them to view HD videos with it, though. a little squashed might be just fine :p
DVD resolution isn't 720p, its's 480p. A 16:9 DVD would be 853x480 and a DVD 4:3 would be 640x480.
I'm surprised no one has even said a thing about…new iDevice…new iTunes?

What about iTunes 9 64 bits today?
Wait until next September.
I'm gonna let you finish, Steve Jobs, but Moses had the best tablet ever.
More like: "Steve, I'm really happy for you, and Ima let you finish, but Moses had the best tablet of all time! of all time!". Does anyone know if Kanye West will be attending this event?

Seriously?

No telling what the tablet could do. 'Ye would wanna be careful

Let's put it a different way; I have iPhone but don't make too many calls with it. I use it for access to the internet wherever I am (I'm writing this reply on it right now, actually, from an Ihop). Now, one could argue that if I don't use the phone part much, I might as well just get an iPod touch. But you know what the phone has that the touch doesn't? 3G. Because even if *you* have Wifi in the two places you'd use a tablet (home and work, perhaps), there are a lot of people who would like constant connectivity everywhere else.

Now, this doesn't mean by any stretch that I think a 3G subscription should be *required* by any means, but it should definitely be optional. Optional in a way that it isn't for the iPhone (at least in the US). Either way, we shouldn't be limited to WiFi only and I highly doubt apple would do that.

I totally agree and see your point. Maybe I should have been clearer: I hope they give you the option of purchasing it with or without a contract.

Here's an experiment you can try:
  1. Load up Google Maps in your web browser
  2. Search for "Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands"
  3. Zoom in until you can arrange your browser window to mimic the one in the photo. The blue and pink labels are decent guides.
  4. In your location bar, type javascript:alert(window.innerWidth); and hit enter. Do the same for javascript:alert(window.innerHeight);

What does that tell you? The screen resolution of this prototype is approximately 1024x768. If you zoom in one step farther, it far exceeds 1280x1024 and if you zoom out, it's way too small, so 1024x768 is the most logical conclusion.

Not bad. I would have preferred 1280x1024, but this *is* Apple we're talking about.

You called it , sir. Good job!

Care to share how you measured? I've posted my rationale for 1024x768 earlier in the thread and would love to be proven wrong.

You were right on, nice job. I'm definitely disappointed in that resolution for a screen that size. I wonder what the cost and battery life difference would be between a 1024 screen and a 1280 screen at the same size. If it's something like $20 and <5% battery life I would have gladly paid the price.

Its an IPhone 4

If You look closely to the iPad and the iPhone comparison you can see a camera on the iPhone and the attenna.
