I knew someone would say it first. The electric car would just be the sound of tires making contact on the road would it not!
New Uber car.

Engine noises as in internal-combustion-engine noises? Unlikely.

Even internal combustion engines are pretty silent these days, unless the maker deliberately wants that nice V8 gurgle so popular in the 1970s.
There's only one electric car that I know of that deliberately makes a noise (not plays a noise), the Zerocarbonista, which is a loud electric motor, not ICE sound. Plus I seriously doubt Apple would be following its design cues.

Would be cute if Apple made an hybrid, just so nobody could complain about range.

Tesla is essentially a battery company with expertise in battery management. They will keep coming up with products that are clever uses for their batteries.

Apple in iPhone particularly, have demonstrated their mastery of battery management. It wouldn't surprise me to think they would like to take on Tesla in the battery management stakes and produce an electric car. Just as Apple claims to be the #1 camera maker in the world, they would like to claim they are the #1 car maker as well. Have to sell a lot of cars, though.

Now how could Apple make a car as compelling and paradigm shifting experience as iPhone was…??
You have to admit, the field is wide open. Lazy ICE manufacturers have been creaming profits off $50 engines with incremental and cosmetic yearly updates for decades now.

Where is that watch 2?

Like... V8-noise!?
If I had to guess, it'd be an honest diesel-sucking V12 that gets 8 miles to the gallon. (Kidding.) I was questioning the same thing though. Would a possible Apple car contain a 6 let alone 4 cylinder engine? If I had to guess, it would be a quiet as a mouse electic motor a la Tesla. But what do I know?

If  does indeed make a vehicle, it will be overpriced like all their products.

KIA and HYAUNDIA quality, with features of a low-end FORD and GM, at the price of a BENZ, BMW, or even possibly a MASERATI.

Margins baby, it's all about margins.

For some of Us, price is not an issue.

Gran Turismo 8 - iOS exclusive?

Gran Turismo 8 - Apple Car exclusive.

You have to actually drive around the car and the windshield is a screen. It's unsafe but immensely enjoyable.*

*Apple does not take any responsibility for any injury and/or death that may occur from their product.

they did that in the movie "The Dilemma" with Kevin James and Vince Vaughn ;)
People have been joking, but ford actually did this. Starting with 2015, the Ecoboost in at least the F150 has a little sound module to play some extra "engine noise" thru the speakers. I think in other fords, too.

I don't care who believes me or not. I know someone at my employer who interviewed at Apple and was offered a job for the car project. His expertise is automated manufacturing, robotics and composites engineering. He turned the job down for something else local, in which we blasted him for not taking a job at Apple (he was unhappy at my company, but was unwilling to relocate to California due to cost of living reasons and the expected 80 hour weeks). He said it was a car project, as in they are intending to build a car...not an infotainment system or software only. All the rumors, hirings and news support this so I'm not surprised. But alas. I believe they are making a full blown Tesla competitor.

"(Do) there have to (be) motor noises at 11:00 p.m. at night like last night?" the resident wrote to the city of Sunnyvale. "Even with the windows closed I could still hear it."

Either this person has amplified hearing (hearing aid malfunction anyone) or Apple must be working on a race car...

Haha are you kidding me what the hell is wrong with Ford....

I am still not convinced they are working on a actual physical car but software for an autonomous car that they have to TEST on a real car.
I think this might be it. So many tech companies are getting into the car market right now, but I imagine their end products are going to be operating systems. Perhaps. Maybe that will just be the first step, but they'll make their own cars/license from other manufacturers eventually.

Interesting times regardless.

As if electric cars will make much noise...
Maybe they'll add an V8 sound-emulator with beats speakers

This is actually not crazy or implausible. In the US, electric vehicles are considered "too quiet" to and are required by law (Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act) to generate artificial sounds to make them audible to pedestrians.

Even traditional combustion-engine vehicles have now gotten in on this, generating artificial engine noises to make them sound more powerful:
