No stutters for me after over 24 hours with 16.2B3 on my 14 PM. The animation stutters were terrible for me until 16.2B1 which worked great with no stutters. I skipped B2 due to bad feedback.

Same for me. No stutters so far, and it's been the longest time without them since owning the 14 PM.

The latest beta of iOS 16.2, released to developers and public beta testers earlier this week, has addressed long-standing issues faced by iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro customers that cause system animations to lag and stutter when closing and switching between apps, unlocking the phone, and across other instances on iOS 16.

iOS-16.2-Feature.jpg

Seemingly originating from the initial release of iOS 16, some iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro users have experienced animations stuttering on iOS and not running at 120Hz. None of the subsequent iOS 16 updates have yet addressed the issue, including iOS 16.1 released last month. But, the latest beta of iOS 16.2 has improved the performance of animations and the stuttering, according to user reports on the MacRumors Forums and Reddit.

The issue seems to impact iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models the most as they have ProMotion displays, allowing them to run up to 120Hz. However, some users of other iPhone models have also reported similar experiences, so it appears to impact several different iPhone models.

Apple is expected to release iOS 16.2 to the general public in mid-December with several new features, including new customization options for the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display, new Lock Screen widgets, and more. Check out our recent coverage of at least eight new features coming to the iPhone with iOS 16.2 later next month.

I mostly experience a stutter/lag sometimes on the keyboard when typing … not sure if it’s because I have haptic keyboard enabled.

Can you imagine going back to the Commodore programmers in 1985 and asking: "Hey, those are some beautifully smooth animations! Do you think with this computer that's one million times more powerful, do you think you can keep the animation smooth, or will they stutter?"

Back then, as now, Apple had incredible marketing (see 1984 Superbowl commercial), and soundly trounced Commodore, who only had a better product, and no marketing.

Always wanted one as a young 10 year old in 1987. Did go through a Vic20/C64/C128 in those days, fun "old" times! Definitely dating myself.

Maybe they can start fixing the stuttering in games next. Please Apple?
No sense, iPhone have the greatest performance on gaming than any other smartphone, still most depend on complexity, optimizations, Metal version support and heat dissipation on small device. 90% not ideal performances is developers responsibility.

I have games that run smoothly on my iPhone 7 that have fps drops on my 14 lmao it has nothing to do with optimization. It is a bug related to touch input and there is nothing developers can do about it.

Correct, it's ridiculous that people blame this on developers - this is Apple's problem that's continually getting whitewashed and gaslit about.

It's not fixed, and it's still very easily visible and verifiable in games on iPad OS 16.2 on M2 iPads. It's stuttery as anything even though the games are perfectly capable of (measured/recorded) flawless 60 FPS and are well optimised.

Yeah, no. This is still an issue and it’s ridiculous. It was fine for a day or two after the update, as usual, but now it’s the same stuttery mess any time I leave an app.

Crazy how this is still impacting people. I had this issue and was fixed during the 16.2 betas and is still fixed on 16.2. Hopefully folks that are still having this (EXTREMELY Annoying) issue are up to date and have submitted feedback to Apple.

Yeah I’m not having this issue on 16.2 thankfully, on my 14 Pro Max. I was prior, though.

Yeah, I definitely understand how horrible it is. Once you've experienced it, you just can't stop seeing it. But yeah, same device, too. I've got well over 500 :)oops:) some apps installed, too. Some are old and aren't even in theApp Store anymore. When people blame this issue on app devs not updating their apps, ummm yeah no. That's not how it works.

You wouldn't see the issue unless you game though guys. It's incredibly obvious in games - all games, whether simple side scrollers or demanding stuff like Genshin Impact and Divinity - but not so much in the iOS and iPadOS UI. I have no complaints about UI at all.

But gaming? Holy it's moly visible and definitely not due to app optimisation (because it's totally ubiquitous, even some gaming companies commented on it as mentioned on threads elsewhere).

You can run the same game on three devices side by side and see how bad it is, I did the following:

1) 1 device runs standard variable ProMotion - lags and stutters nonstop when moving the camera, moving the characters, turning around etc.

2) 1 device runs ProMotion but manually limited to 60 HZ in accessibility settings - still lags but less so, because ProMotion's range gets limited down

3) 1 device runs native fixed refresh rate of 60 HZ or 120 HZ and it's absolutely buttery smooth in comparison to the first two

I hadn’t really gamed much lately. But you’re right. I fired up Tiny Wings and Alto’s Adventure on my iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.2. Wow. What a mess. It’s beautifully smooth UNTIL I touch the screen to interact, at which point it drops frames each time you touch the screen.

What on earth? 😦

The touch input is supposed to automatically be locked to the games/apps framerate (30hz, 60hz, or 120hz). iOS 16 on the iPhone 14 pro doesn't do that, it fluctuates. So you get a small stutter when you touch the display. This is probably whats causing most stuttering around the whole OS.

I've also got an iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOs 16.2, and I tried Tiny Wings, Alto's Adventure & Alto's Odyssey, along with Super Mario Run, Mob Control, Hole.io, Donut County, Solar Smash, Plants vs Zombies 1 & 2, and Pac-Man 256... All of them ran perfectly fine. No stuttering or lag at all. And I DID have that stuttering issue before 16.2, too.
