Yes, people can read, but some can't comprehend that Apple (required or not) will not want a miniUSB adaptor as it is too messy and easy to lose. Better to build it in, consistently across all iOS devices.

considering that doing so would mean switching to a connector that A) cant do as much as their current 30-pin, and B) would invalidate the multi-million dollar industry built around their current, proprietary port... why would that they want that? to avoid a "messy" adapter in the box that nobody will use anyway?

hmm. dunno about that.

The more I think, the more I wonder if Apple is designing the iPad 2 to run OS X 10.7.

SD Card slot, more power, and a resolution of a normal 27" iMac. (?)

Makes sense.

Makes sense.

Why would it make sense to put a mouse and keyboard based operating system that would take up a huge % of the flash memory available on a keyboard-less, touch panel?

Hmmm. Time to sell my iPad 32Gb 3G.
I've only every used the 3G twice, so this time round I'll just go wifi.
I'm sure the better looking original iPad you own will go to a more gracious user. Mine is staying firmly in my ownership. Don't need anymore dots to look at.

...It's definitely not IR. IR is dated technology, and to put it in one would mean committing to including it with all future models. That's ridiculous. Remotes should be WiFi or Bluetooth (e.g. PS3 remote). Those are based on RF and do not require line-of-sight to operate. They can also support higher data rates, allowing for more information to be transferred and a better experience...
Like tell that to every other piece of AV equipment you own. :) IrDA is just about the only standard that is used by each and every one of those devices. If you're going to have a device that integrates well with your TV and other AV equipment you absolutely need IrDA. If everyone was using Bluetooth or WiFi for remotes then Apple could do the same, but that isn't happening so IrDA is just about the only thing that Apple could add that would allow the iPad to co-function with the remainder of your equipment. Google TV had to include an IR Blaster for this very reason, but having it on the iPad would be a much better solution.

Besides, all of this conjecture about these "new" ports is likely wasted effort, I suspect that these cases are just mock-ups and they probably don't even represent what will be on the next iPad.

...How many people really use zoom? I almost never do. You can do it electronically to a small scale. Anti-shake mechs are now software driven, not mechanical...
An optical zoom would pretty much need to be included if your "super video" iPad was really going to be that useful. As for anit-shake, the better systems are still mechanical, either with optical stabilization or by moving the sensor. You really can't do high-quality anti-shake with only software (particularly for video), you can only do a poor simulation or just try to time the still capture when the camera is stationary (i.e. when it is less shaky). Frankly, with a "camera" the size and weight of an iPad you'd absolute need a good anti-shake system to get quality results.

how much thinner do you think ipad 2 will be, and how much will it weigh,

will the back camera be the same 5MP camera in the iphone 4, or will it have an improved iphone 5 camera, maybe 8mp?

...Sure, it might not be a mic, but it will need a good set of mics. The only serious drawback of the central mic is that a hand can block it when holding.
Yes, I hadn't even thought of that problem. How would you hold the iPad when taking video in the landscape orientation? I'm sure that nearly everyone would place their hands close to the middle of the frame and remember that the camera lens is near the corner of the iPad so you'd have to avoid placing your hands there too (that's one of the annoyances I have about the current rear facing camera on the iPhone/iPod touch, you have to remember to hold the camera in a given orientation or you're likely to block the lens).

I wonder if these case vendors know these these leaks are on purpose.

Confidential information is often fingerprinted with slight variations in order to identify leaks. Each person/company gets a slightly different version of a document (spelling mistakes, commas missplaced, etc) so when a leak occurs you can easily spot the culprit.

I won't be surprised if some manufacturer loses access for the next release.
Oh and I doubt a new ipad will have two ports.

Dude, they are in China, do you really think they care? This kind of underground market is the norm over there.

It's not like we are talking about some US case maker or something leaking this stuff. You are right that they do intentional leaks to try to catch who did it but ultimately the manufacturers involved here are a dime a dozen.

Even if only half of them are true, this is still 1 unhappy first gen iPad owner. We really did get screwed...

It's laughable when people say this.... I personally don't feel screwed. I've had almost a year's worth of enjoyment of both of my iPads (that's hundreds and hundreds of hours between my wife and I). I've taken them on dozens of trips... even used a prepaid SIM in Australia for a while with my 3G iPad. I've hiked with my iPad... using it to preview photos I'm taking while on the hike. It's kept me company while in the hospital. I've already read 5+ novels on it (without having to carry around a HUGE book). Played TONS of games... etc.

All of that was certainly worth the dough I laid down. Would I like to have the upgrade? Hell yes! Will I? I don't actually know. Maybe one of them will get the upgrade... but honestly my iPad does everything I need it to now... so we'll just have to see.

People are just never satisfied. The iPad (yes... the Gen1 iPad) is a revolutionary product... and I am very happy that I've already been able to enjoy it for a full year longer than people that waited ;-)

I doubt the minidisplayport - it's all about airplay, or at least some form of wireless transmission. I don't see Apple adding more physical connectors to any future products. I think wireless is the future - whether it's good or not.

Might be some mini/micro usb for some additional peripherals and accessories.

But it still puzzles me what Apple could do with a port on the "top" of the ipad. But I'm sure once we find out what it is we'll think it's really awesome.

I agree. More connectors don't seem necessary or desirable. They would want to keep the 'clean' look of the case (I would certainly hope). The Dock Connector can do it all anyway, after all. My thought as to what they could put on the "top" would be an IR transmitter. That's right! Think of all the people that could use it to control all their old TV's and components with simple iPad apps, and NOT have to buy separate (highly losable) dongles like they do now for the remote-apps they want.

Don't know if Apple would really do this, but hey, it's a thought!
