We need even more confusion in the iPhone lineup. It would be good to mix in several generations of chips and offer different SKUs with different processors even within the pro lineup. Until it becomes more complicated then figuring out a medical bill, it's not complicated enough.

Looks like the guy that came up with the idea for the 5C is back in charge.

I use Lightroom on my phone in addition to my iPad and MBP so the better screen is nicer; especially since OLED is brighter and more viewable outside.

You might not on your 13, but I do on my XR. I've had apps reload, losing my place, when I temporarily switch to Safari to read something. Double the RAM will alleviate that.

Whether or not it could is irrelevant. Apple says the XR does not have a powerful enough processor/neural engine to support the more detailed scanning needed for that feature. It's a convenience feature that I will enjoy with my new 14. I believe them more than people who see nefarious machinations everywhere.

My XR doesn't have any of the latest computational photography tricks like Smart HDR, Night Mode, or Sweater Mode so based on the existing capabilities and expected features and camera updates, I think it will be.
Regarding the browser and reloading I was talking about my XR when I had it, not my 13. Personally I have seen no real improvements between my XR, 11 and 13 in terms of speed, loading apps, webpages, streaming a youtube video, etc.

I can't imagine trying to do any photo work, or any work at all on a phone. iPad yes, iPhone... not sure why you would want to be confined to such a small screen. Cool that you have the option, for me I don't want to do any work on my Phone outside of snapping some pictures and sending some emails. Of course there is no right or wrong here, it is personal.

I don't doubt at all that Apple limits devices to get people to move to others. This is not uncommon for Apple, it is actually regularly done to the detriment of the consumer.

Definitely big improvements on the camera, I have notice the upgrade going from the 11 to the 13 so you should notice some big positive changes there.

The 5c flopped because it was a repackaged 5 and the 5s existed.

True

But if Apple didn't make the 5C... the iPhone 5 would have dropped down to the mid-tier price anyway that year like prior year-old phones before it.

At least Apple tried to jazz it up by giving it funky colors and that snazzy holey case!

:)

This is a legit slimey move on Apple's part. They knew that the differences between the normal and Pro models didnt justify the price on the Pros, so they're creating artificial differentiation. And I'm sure Apple will totally lower the price of the base models to reflect the money they're saving on using a year-old chip...

And wait until 5 years later, where the iPhone 14 will be dropped off support earlier than the 14 Pro.
Cut cost on the best selling lineup by using older chip, and increase upgrade turnovers by shortening its software support cycle. Tim Apple is too smart in making money.

Ignoring things like OS updates, yes.
Well yes if I want to ignore OS updates then yes my 7+ will continue past September and the release of iOS 16 but I would be expecting at least five years of iOS from the 14 PM.

But it will be interesting to see if lower level 14s get left behind a year earlier because they have the older chip set than the higher end 14s with the newer chip.

No one, including Apple, knows what Apple's iOS support policy will be six years from now.

The 5c flopped because Apple kept reminding people it was just like the 5 instead of treating it as a new phone. But also because stupid Wall Street analysts were predicting the c stood for ‘cheap’. I remember one even suggesting the phone might not have Siri or a camera to make it cheaper.

While people should enjoy the fun in rumors, it seems like all they do is make people dissatisfied and unhappy with things that don't even exist.

I have a gut feeling that the Pro model will see a price hike.
The problem Apple has is it doesn’t really have anything to justify the ‘pro’ models. Slightly better camera is about it. I‘m not sure many care about stainless steel vs aluminum.

Sometimes I feel like Apple is competing with it's own self.

iPhone v/s iPhone.
In many ways they are. In most cases people who are loyal to Android don't buy iPhones, and typical iPhone users don't consider Android.

Both camps are fine, but unlike the Android community, there aren't any other players in the iOS ecosystem so they essentially create their own paradox (of sorts).

Apple really only has itself to blame for why the 5c flopped. They went out of their way to basically say this is just an iPhone 5 which allowed the tech press to spin it as an overpriced year old phone.

One thing that could be "pro" is moving those phones to USB-C (but not doing the same with the regular iPhone). Would be the only reason I upgrade this round. If my 13 had it, I wouldn't consider upgrading it.

Pigs get fed, hogs get killed.

There will come a point where the market will no longer continue eating up Apples nickel and diming. It’s coming.

Why are you spending $1500 every year when you can sell your phone to cover most of the cost.

You should be more fiscally responsible.
I own a two year old SE with $25/6GB per month data plan. :)

I'm done spending thousands on phones. It's pointless and I'd rather have a well-lived retirement.

I just hope the new chip can sustain high performance without the heat. I'm finally using the full performance with games and it gets hot and throttled no matter apple/Android (I use both).
