Latest Zoom Update Improves iPad Calls, Adds Custom Video Filters, Gender Pronouns, and More

Last month, Zoom added support for the new Center Stage feature exclusive to Apple's latest iPad Pro models, and this month the popular video conferencing app is back with another update containing several interface improvements and usability features on iOS.

Notable enhancements in version 5.7.0 of the app include a better iPad "visual experience", support for individual call participants to request Live Transcription, custom video filters, scheduling privileges, consistent date formatting, and pairing with Zoom Rooms on the Zoom desktop client.

In addition, there's enhanced data privacy notifications for chat channels with enhanced chat encryption, the ability to display several phone numbers in user contact cards, and enhancements to the invite by phone option.

This update also introduces a new field for gender pronouns, along with options to choose when they're displayed. Pronouns appear in parentheses next to people's names during a call, as well as under names on user profile cards.

Users can also choose if they want their pronoun to be shared in meetings and in webinars. The new profile settings let users "always share" (the default), "do not share," or "ask me every time" if pronouns should be displayed in each meeting.

Version 5.7.0 of Zoom for iOS is available on the App Store.

Yeah, no.

When you modify language, you modify thought.

This is not about "Oh, it's just politeness!"

Because it is not. This is about a wholesale change to a way of thinking that denies science and rationality--a wholesale change a majority of people in this country do not agree with.

Start small with pronouns. You know, for "politeness."

Next you're a bigot if you don't use the correct pronouns.

Next children are confused when they see a girl and are told, no, no, that's a man in a woman's body. Use the correct pronoun or you are a bigot and don't believe in inclusiveness.

I will always speak out against this, even on an Apple forum, as it is insidious.

To be honest, it’s your views on this that are completely unacceptable. It’s the same view people had about gay people. It’s the same view people have whenever they come across someone living their lives different to themselves. It’s the petrified of ‘because reasons’ view, the ‘what about the children’ view, the view where words like ‘poisoning’ is an ok thing to say in relation to how other people live their lives. The only poisoning going on here is your type, and the influence you’re having on the children of the world, being so very very intolerant.

No, intolerance is forcing people to speak a certain way. Redefining words so they can be used as weapons against people is intolerance.

Whoa... was that an earthquake I just felt?

No. According to a news bulletin from the US Geological Survey, it was the Earth instantaneously tilting an extra 10 degrees from so many people on MR being simultaneously triggered by the phrase "gender pronouns."

World scientists are now on conference calls discussing the expected long-term adverse consequences to the Earth and environment.

Let us know when those scientists conclude that having a set of testicles means you are a woman.

Will they be sharing their preferred pronouns by default, or being asked every time?
 
Do everything within your power to avoid doing business/using products from companies that contribute to this culture or validate it by making these changes to their core services.

What can you do as individual? Complete non-acknowledgement, non-compliance. Refuse to use their invented language. History will look back to this era as a period of Madness. Do your part by not partaking in the madness or accepting it as normal. This too shall pass
