I got all excited about this update’s promise of an “improved visual experience.” Downloaded it.

The %#@! chat window is still right smack in the middle of the screen, immovable.

They could have made their iPad app usable on a par with the desktop version. Instead, what do we get? $#@! woke pronouns.

Our northern neighbors (I'm in the US) paved the way for charging someone with a hate crime for not recognizing/using "preferred language" with bill C-16. I won't be naïve and think that can't happen in the US.
Most are TRYING to live and let live. It is others that are bullying and abusing language for power.

C-16 provides sentencing enhancements if motivating bias is demonstrated in the commission of a crime against another person. Simply not using a person's preferred pronoun in a physical assault would not count. Slinging a gender identity-based slur against a person while clobbering that person with your fists and knocking them to the ground, could.

Similarly, in the US in all but seven states, using a racial slur in the commission of an assault against another person would be considered an aggravating factor and permit increased sentencing.

I see nothing wrong with that in either situation.

To be honest, it’s your views on this that are completely unacceptable. It’s the same view people had about gay people. It’s the same view people have whenever they come across someone living their lives different to themselves. I have two pronouns: I and Me. I don't give a good GD what people refer to me as so long as they get my name right (I get called John or Jonathan often, which is bizarre as neither are my name) and even that is less of an issue than a personal source of amusement.
To avoid this stupidity in professional discussions I've just stopped using pronouns altogether, which came after a new contact asked me to specifically refer to them with a pronoun. I don't want to intentionally offend anyone, but I'm too old to play these identity politics games so I just abstain. Let the Gen Z's go through life with identifying stickers if they really feel the need.

Defend? Why? There's nothing to defend. Makes no difference to me if someone prefers a different pronoun. I have no problem with how other people would like to be referred and will gladly oblige.

Reminds me of the 1960s when Americans who were descendants from Africans forced into slavery going back to 1619 wanted to be referred to as African Americans instead of negroes. There was so much uproar and outrage over that.

So many triggered people on this forum! If you don't like using pronouns, guess what? Zoom allows you to "never share" them. Problem solved.

The problem isn’t the pronouns themself, but the assumption that they are or were ever necessary to be established, as if they aren’t something that should already be evident from someone’s appearance or chromosome expression.

The majority of humans on this planet still believe your gender and sex are the same thing (as has always been the case until social reconstructionists decided to force-change that notion), and are determined by the XX or XY chromosomes you are allocated in your creation, not an arbitrarily determined value decided upon by the individual on any given day.

People palming this off as a “if you don’t like it, don’t use it” are either being deliberately deceptive or deeply ignorant to the overarching ramifications of allowing a small subset of influential people to change our underlying social substructures.

As if only people from “this country” use Zoom and Apple products? By your name I’m guessing you’re American. We Americans make up 4% of the worlds population. You’re free to hold your beliefs, that’s completely fine, but it’s also fine for the rest of the world’s population to hold theirs. Zoom nor Apple is forcing anyone to use a pronouns against their will. And for the recored neither of us know for absolute fact what “the majority of any country” do or do not agree with nor can we speak for other’s opinion.

Oh no, recognizing that the relation between biological sex and socially constructed gender identities is complicated and acting like there's a strict gender binary is a massive over-simplification might shift the Overton window in a direction that would make it acceptable to actually have a discussion about the issue. Say it ain't so.

Although I guess it is easier to disregard nuance when you can just label anything you don't like or understand Marxism.
