My local Best Buy opens in 30 minutes, still no email regarding my in-store pre-order. Given the article AI posted on stock shortages at Target and Best Buy, though, I'm not exactly feeling confident at the moment. Once again I will say if Apple couldn't guarantee stock to it's third parties, they shouldn't have offered Launch Day pre-orders at all. Had I known this was going to happen I would have just pre-ordered from Apple like I normally do, which I absolutely will be doing in the future, but not because I'm upset with Best Buy. The poor manager I spoke with yesterday was putting on a PR face, but it was clear he was well aware what level of hell he would be in for if that shipment from Apple didn't come in first thing this morning.

I "Pre Ordered" 3, 256 GB Matte iPhone 7+'s for my family and I and I have been following my order status on Best buy everyday since 9/9. The status remains "Processing". I have not received an email regarding any delays or 100$ gift cards so I thought I had a chance at getting my phone today. After not hearing anything this morning I went down to the store to find out what everyone has been saying,Best Buy never got the shipment for the 7+'s.

I originally pre ordered through apple at 3:08 am and then cancelled due to the slipping shipping dates.

Overall, I don't regret going with Best Buy because Apples pre order was a complete joke the night of and it continues to amaze me how bad this launch was executed.

But as previously, stated I never got an email that stated my preorder is delayed, now I have to get on the phone to follow up with why I didn't receive an email regarding the 100$ gift card.

I have pre ordered my last 4 iPhones, always issues ordering online but overall I always got the phone on release date.

I could always get an iPhone 7...I actually prefer the 4.7" model but Apple has made this an inferior model.

Oh well.

Why do we keep getting pushed to the 'reservations start at x time on the 17th' are they planning on stock coming in over night? I can't see why they wouldn't have any plus models today but 24 hours fresh of the plane they have more....

Because with store pickup, YOU can control when you get it (ie., first thing) compared to when the UPS man decides he wants to bring it to you (6PM).

Count me as one of the pissed off 7+ pre-orderers that was supposed to get it today at BB (ordered at 2AM on pre-order launch day), and nothing at BB for me. No status, just "sorry, nothing for you".

Upgrade program you have to do pickup as well

Failed product? It hasn't even been available 24 hours. Not going to argue intentionally limited stock, but we'll have to agree to disagree on the 3.5MM jack. Apple has always disrupted industries, and historically for the greater good. I believe once we get through the growing pains, wireless audio will be better because of this and few will actually miss the wires.

No, I don't want wireless headphones because I DO NOT want to have yet another device to remember to keep charged all the time.

How did the headphone jack impede on your wireless abilities on the iPhone 6S and prior? Are you just mindlessly agreeing with apple or did you always want to see the removal of the 3.5mm plug even if didnt matter?

What is the correct time for the In Store Reservation feature to become available in the US? I've seen conflicting information, thanks

It's 12:01 A.M. for US stores according to Apples in store reservation page. Everyone is taking it as local time. Last year it was 8:00 a.m. So I'm going to try tonight at 12:00 a.m. EST to 12:15 a.m. if nothing comes up I'll try again at 03:00 to 03:15 and if still nothing. I'll try again in the morning at 08:00. Or wait until the 26th for my Jet Black 7+ 256gb.

Somebody please tell me how to get an iPhone 7 on the iPhone Upgrade Program with T-Mobile. My iPhone 5 is on its last legs.

Sept 9, midnight: No Upgrade Program pre-order available for T-Mobile customers.

Sept 13, morning: Call 1-800-MY-APPLE. They tell me I have to pre-order at the Apple Store.

Sept 13, evening: Drive 25 miles to Apple Store. They tell me:
* I can't sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Program as a T-Mobile customer until they have stock at the store.
* My iPhone 5 is dying. Can I buy an iPhone 6s on the Upgrade Program? No. Last week I could have, but not after the iPhone 7 announcement.
* They say I could buy an iPhone 6s at full cost and return it at no cost within 14 days. Can they guarantee that they would have a 7 to exchange it for in two weeks. No. I'd be stuck.
* They say I could buy an iPhone 7 at full cost. When it comes in, I could convert it to the upgrade program. I ask the "greeter" to introduce me to the sales person who would take the order. "Sorry", she says, "you have to do it online. You can use our computers." I leave.

Sept 15: Load my iPad Pro with iOS 10 and link a credit card to my wallet. Open the Apple Store App. Select the iPhone 7 to buy (at full price) with the intent to convert it to the iPhone Upgrade Program when I pick it up at the store. Shipping options: to my house only. No store pickup available. (I want store pickup so I can convert to the Upgrade Program before I take possession of it, so I can cancel the order, if needed) Quit the app without checking out.

So I can't pre-order. I can't buy online on the Upgrade Program. I can't buy at full price and ship to store. I can only get the upgrade program in-store when the have stock. They have the iPhone 6 in stock, but I can't get it on the upgrade program. When they finally get iPhone 7 in stock, I have to drive 20 miles and hope they aren't sold out before I get there. All the while, my iPhone 5 is on life support.

It seems that there is no reasonable process for T-Mobile customers to get on the Upgrade Program. All roads are closed. And 1-800-MY-APPLE gave me incorrect information that put me on a 40-mile round trip goose chase. Customer service at the store is limited to a "greeter", but no human sales people. And I should mention that because my store in in Portland, OR, Apple limits stock to discourage "sharks" who buy without sales tax and sell the phone at a higher price in sales tax states. Yeah, I could change carriers, except T-Mobile is the only carrier with a good signal at my house.

Please Apple and T-Mobile, get your crap together. Frankly, I blame Apple. They could easily take my money as a deposit for a reservation. That has nothing to do with T-Mobile.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Wow, the Plus is having terribly bad supply issues at launch. I had no problems picking up a 4.7" matte black 256GB model from my nearest Verizon store today (getting their $650 trade in credit on my 6). I originally wanted to get a Plus, but the OIS and improved battery on the 4.7" convinced me to stay small. I am very happy with the matte black finish. The antenna bands are nearly invisible, and it makes the camera bump less noticeable too, not to mention that the new bump is waayyy more palatable than the old one. Personally I love the new home button too. I was worried after reading some negative reviews, but I think they did a great job with it. No regrets, cyal8er headphone jack!

another year, another man-made supply restrain

This is nonsense. Do these kinds of stories really strike anyone here as good publicity? Seriously? People are crap-talking Apple everywhere. I can assure you that Apple wants to have as many models available as possible to, you know, actually sell them. Artificially constraining them is the kind of thing that sounds like a marketing urban legend that "only Apple would be brilliant enough to come up with." :eyeroll:

This year, Apple is releasing in far more markets worldwide than they ever have before. It's also possible that Apple is running into production difficulties with the new camera on the Plus, which might be why supply for those is so constrained. We already know from Jony Ives's breathless Jet Black video that producing the finish on the phone is something akin to the Miracle at Lourdes. They might as well have dipped it in unicorn blood. Heck, maybe they do.

I just don't care that it's gone. I love my Bluetooth headphones - the hassle of another battery has been a worthwhile trade off to lose the wire, and my car has Bluetooth so the jack literally does not matter to me.

If getting rid of the jack gets us a step closer to water proofing, a larger battery, or other internal components I'll actually use, then I'm all for it.

What in the hell is wrong with Apple? They make the Plus model even more desirable this year over the non-Plus but they produce more of the smaller models. Pure stupidity!
And it's time to get rid of the pink and gold colors with the white antenna bands. Those two colors could have been replaced with an all white version. A Snow White and Darth Vader phone would have been awesome.

Few things, first, it's impossible to gauge that the 7+ model would be "more desirable", especially since the camera functionality wouldn't 100% until a software update later. They may have thought this would deter some people from buying it on launch. This is also the first time that the Plus model is in higher demand than the non-Plus Model (based on a MR article).

Second, there is no proof that they made fewer Plus models than non-plus models. They could have made the same number of each, but the demand was higher for the Plus, so it sold out faster.

Lastly, while you might not like the rose gold and gold colors, they are both more popular than the white color (according to a MR article yesterday or today).

Unfulfilled reservations is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. How did they allow someone to reserve a device that wasn't even gonna be in stock!?

I was at the store in Nashua, New Hampshire, and there was one guy with a jet black and that was the first one the staff had seen, none on display. I guess is supplies are constrained they're not going to use them up as display models?

The thing is I've searched the internet and yet to find a lot of tweets/posts where they've got a jet black 7 plus model. If you look at sll the reviews by the journalists they all had the black 7 plus. Not one had the jet black in the bigger one.

They must be very very short.

I walked into my local Best Buy this morning and got my pre-order, without it being ready. They just had me do a normal in-store order and then cancelled the online order. Still waiting for my 7+ though...
The manager I spoke with guaranteed they would not be selling any stock to walk in customers before they fulfilled all pre-orders, so I sure as heck hope they stick to that and don't sell to someone walking in off the street before I get that email that mine is ready for pickup.
Your post made me a little nervous so I called my store and they said they're expecting the shipment in a half hour or so. Again, fingers crossed.

Hi,

got my iPhone 7 black today. But the quality/finish of the camerabump is absolutely terrible. This is not the standard I expect from a product that costs 860 Euros!! It is suttle but I saw it instantly when I held the phone in my hand for the first time.

Is your quality better? Maybe there is something wrong with the production process!

What should I do: Go to apple store?, Send it back?, Do nothing?

I live in Germany and I fear that they don't have any stock for replacement!

Thanks for replies guys!

Mine doesn't have those blemishes, but with something that small I would let it slide... I could barely even see what your arrows were pointing to at first. I think if that's the only thing wrong with your phone, you are still in great shape :D

So far a pretty subpar experience in Portland with over a half hour wait, and reservations that don't really mean anything.

What's the point of a time if they just ignore it? Why don't they just hand you the box when you walk in?

Sadly visiting the store is almost always a bad experience for me :(

If this post didn't have your name on it, I'd swear I typed it. Word-for-word it's my experience, down to driving to the BB store this morning to see what the hell is going on!

I should add that I did wait on telephone hold for over 45 minutes before giving up and driving to the store. And, I ordered at 2:00AM.

Glad to see I'm not alone in being ignored. Unfortunately, I'm leaving for vacation for 2 weeks and I bet as soon as my plane takes off, my iPhone 7+ will be in at the store. :(
[doublepost=1474051138][/doublepost]Could it be that Best Buy stores are being treated like end-users and not getting their deliveries until today?

My suspicion is that a few things played a role in this:

  • Apple misjudged the demand for the Plus model. I know a lot of people who planned to buy the Plus because of the camera, and otherwise would have gotten the smaller size.
  • The new simultaneous worldwide release put tremendous pressure on an already challenging supply pipeline.
  • There could be unforeseen production difficulties associated with the phones. Note that Apple has been touting the sapphire lenses on the camera, but now that people have them to test they're finding out the lenses appear to be glass. Apple had production difficulties with sapphire in the past as well. If this is true, it could certainly help explain why the Plus models are even harder to get.
  • One of the largest international shipping companies, Hanjin, went belly up and stranded many shipments. Even if the phones themselves weren't on the ships, materials intended for their production very well could be.

By the time you get back with it on the bus, it would not be worth if for a couple of hours difference in waiting surely...? What is the worse that would happen? FYI - UPS dropped mine off at 11am today. ;)

Are you just bing sarcastic or is this reaction just a defect in your personality in how you releate to people?

People buy stuff for lots of reasons. Nothing here is necessary in life. No reason to think there reason for disappointment is more important than others.

Both actually.

You always had wireless, so the headphone jack wasnt impeding.
Sony and Samsung both have had waterproof phones with headphones jacks, so it's not impeding.
Battery life shouldn't depend on the size of the battery when it cuts out the headphone jack.

More importantly, they could have just made the phone slightly thicker for a bigger battery, at 7mm, it's slim enough.

This is all intentional by Apple to get more money. They dont care about consumers or industry standards.
