"Severely sliced", seriously? Can it decapitate people too?

.......
It is Russia's new spy killing device, they have moved with the times, out with poison and in with Apple watch killing device. Lure the intended victim with the glamour of the watch then a quick flick of the wrist, battery forces screen to instantly pop off there by decapitating the intended victim lol :)

I could definitely see it being not great if this happened while wearing the face on the "inside" of your wrist next to all the veins and cords and stuff.

But 'razor sharp edges' ?? doubtful. Even more so when swollen battery protrudes and screen pops off, who and for how long would somebody NOT notice? Who would not take off the watch immediately?

Great case where right-to-repair isn't a fruitful cause IF razor sharp edges is factual. Most end users wouldn't even know what needed to perform a repair fully.

Change the laws, make the lawyers liable for fees if they bring BS cases that are dismissed. Then the number of these lawsuits will dwindle.
Make punitive damages, which are meant soley to dissuade bad behaviour, payable to the state and not the plaintiffs or their lawyers. Plaintiffs should only get actual damages and perhaps lawyer's fees up to a limit.

3 apple watches; 3 swollen batteries.

No more apple watch for me.

It's one thing when the battery doesn't hold charges (i.e. AirPods); it's another when I must replace the batteries to use the device.

Another example of MacRumors reporting news using a formulation that seems intentionally inflammatory (to create more debate here in the forum thread, and thus more viewers of the irritating ads interspersed with our posts?):
?

Compare (as originally posted):

Every generation of the Apple Watch has a battery swelling defect that can cause operational failures and injuries from broken screens, states a new class action lawsuit that has been filed against Apple.

With (a simple switch to the sentence construction):

A new class action lawsuit that has been filed against Apple states that "every generation of the Apple Watch has a battery swelling defect that can cause operational failures and injuries from broken screens".
They manipulate the discussion to go in their favor while blocking discussion of things like covid because they won’t be able to control the opinion to their liking. MacRumors has a definite and clear bias in their writing.

I had this issue with my iPhone 5 some years back after the warranty had expired . The  rep informed me there had been an issue with certain batches so they replaced my battery free of charge .

Not sure about a class action but I know someone who put on a Watch when it was having this issue and it was "way too hot to touch for even a fraction of a second" in her words. Weirdly it was not swelling though, at least not enough to pop the screen off.

I thought this issue was limited to series 0/1, has there been any cases reported for any series after that?

Hold on, your saying that a MR editor changed the sentence to the latter? If that is the case then MR needs to explain why the post does not show 'Edited....' so viewers can see that something in the post was edited.
Guy has gotta make a living.

While I have read here on MR about some folks experiencing swollen batteries, most seem to happen during charging and not while wearing the watch. Not questioning that it happened to this guy, but a class action suit does not seem appropriate.
Mine fell off during a workout at the gym. My wife’s… well, let’s just say she bumped her first one and her 2nd was probably during charging.

Thing is: Apple replaced both of them for free. My wife’s twice actually.

I’ve had every AW from 0 to 7, never had an issue. I only keep them for two years however (one for day & one for sleep). Might be a good idea to have your battery replaced every 2&1/2 years when it doesn’t hold a decent charge anymore. Sadly battery technology hasn’t made significant improvements in a while. It’s not planned obsolescence, but maintaining your tech regularly. Like a car needs gas, batteries need to be replaced after a while. Apple could improve it’s messaging around this I think.

Had an Apple Watch since they first came out. No problems personally, but if you’re sleeping and this happened you might not need to shave your face when you wake up.

yea, batteries do not last forever, but, a fixed time is probably not the way to go as it so depends on use case. 80% "health" is the better approach and watchOS tells you what that number is. Apple actually doesn't replace the battery until its below 80%

btw, my 2.5 yr old S4 was at 86% lasting for much longer than 1 day, then got replaced thru AC+

Years ago, my colleague was changing AAA battery in his old school Logitech mouse. That Duracell battery exploded and and my colleague injured. According to this logic, he should sue Logitech for designing a device that put users in danger.

My S3 Apple Watch battery swelled while kayaking. The screen made loud pop and shattered into many pieces. Not what I would call a safety hazard. However, a new Apple Watch the end result. The battery was very swollen. No indication of battery problem before the failure.

We complain when the products are not user serviceable and then the watch opens up so you can replace the battery, boom class action lawsuit. Seems like good design. :/

This happened to me twice and both times I had to pay to fix it! It happened to my sister and Apple made her pay to fix it as well. Wish I could get my money back. Still can’t believe I brought another one, must be the coolade! o_O

Did you purchase AppleCare with these watches? If you purchase an AW w/AppleCare using AmEx you’d get a full 3 years of coverage. Probably cheaper than what you paid to fix it.
