Have people really not heard of the iMac G4? Trolling or just too young? Here's mine from my old Mac collection:

Most likely too young. Great collection by the way! With two Cubes no less.

But the iMac G4 was the best AIO computer ever regarding ergonomics. With a very funny commercial:

Really a pity Apple put it into the fridge. Too costly to produce? Prone to break? Who knows. Same for the Cube (but the Mac Studio is perhaps its successor, sort of, design-wise).

After seeing how Apple did nothing with siri for 10 years, I have no faith in their smart home accessories. How’s adding even more complexity and partnering with a 3rd party going to help Apple right the ship?

Yes. It is called an "iPhone".

This rumored device is just an iPhone and a deskstand/charger. Well, actually a little less than that. The "iPhone" has no cellphone features, no rear-facing camera, and most of the apps are removed. But otherwise it is just am iPhone on a stick

If you wanted this functionality you could place your old phone (with no SIM card) on a charger stand. As long as the old iPhone could run the latest IOS, you'd be good.

What does this do that a cheap used phone can't do?
I'm not sure how many "cheap, used" iPhone 15 Pros are kicking about... Older chipsets can't run the new AI features this will have.

That bloke was in Eastenders lol

...and repeatedly prove it in A-B tests.
and there were some who couldnt tell the difference between $100 a meter wire and coathanger wire...

the vast majority of people struggle to know is different between an MP3 and high res FLAC file.
Some might feel something but most environments arent setup to know better.
i laugh when people complain about streaming in cars. most cars drown out anything subtle at all.

For some use cases, having a device always be in one place is valuable in and of itself. Such would be the case with a home hub with a screen
This is 100% it. They're hard sells because they're luxury, non essential purchases, but having a dedicated, stationary device has its own merits.

I have one in every room in the house and having the muscle memory of where to look when the doorbell rings, or when I want to check the time or see a timer adds value for me. It'd be really annoying to have to find a device every time. Not something I really appreciated until I had the experience of having it.

Music never sounded good in cars, even before they started pumping fake “car sounds” through the speakers that you can’t turn off

You can't speak on behalf of the 'vast majority', sorry.

Folks, don't fall for the tutti-frutti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-n-roll Apple PR "leaks." Apple didn't leave all this information in the "backend system" by accident. This is classic Apple PR trying to hype the product pipeline, showing how "bleeding edge" they are when they have to suddenly "delay" a product because "it just wasn't ready to delight out customers."
This is an Apple rumour site, what does this even mean?

Wish they would make a soundbar with built in ATV. could cut down on all the needed "devices" and could put a beefier chip to run AI as well as future proof it.
I love this idea! Considering how much they’ve invested into good sound and streaming music I’m surprised they haven’t gotten into the home theatre space more.

If you want you’d have to buy a $1500 iPhone 15 Pro. Personally, I’d go with the Pro Max for the larger screen size in my home so you’re looking at even more.

I can’t see this device cost you more than $1000 and it’s almost guaranteed to have better sound than the original HomePod (why release a successor that sounds worse?).

I mean just what it says - this wasn’t “accidentally left” in the code. This is class Apple PR “leaking.” Remember, secrecy is the most important thing to Apple.

1) netflix
2) Tubi
3) The ability to install some
iPhone and/or iPad apps Carrot Weather).
4) The capabilty to use AI to draw a graphical representation of my network topography and make suggestions for change
5) using lidar, microphones and other camera sensors to enhance my personal spatial audio further
6) widgets, widgets, widgets
7) Insert my comment about this could be a nice steam deck replacement some day
8) robust emu support

But yes, would be nice.

Tom

Automatic answering is the worst idea i have heard in a long time.
Is it? I could give less of a care tbh especially as you’ve not said anything as to why.

It’s a great idea if it’s implemented how I’ve put it out actually. Love the idea and it’s going to be implemented by someone eventually as a more seamless experience is going to be what comes in the future whether someone with bad opinions thinks so or not.

This design plus Apple intelligence would make me replace all 5 OG HomePods in my house. Hope it happens soon because they are becoming pretty deaf.
I’m with you, but the device needs to match or exceed the sound quality of the OG HP to be a replacement for me.

Can you imagine if they make this as some overpriced way to allow functions your several years old Macs can't access because of restrictions? If you can remote display this terminal on your Macs screen, then you have access to all the ai tools your Mac can't use. You'll just have to pay around $400 for the privilege. That would be something.
