But since it was a couple months after the MacBook Pro was announced, everyone was probably already expecting the MacBook. So I couldn't see why they would need a keynote just to announced the successor to the iBook.

As for the new MacBook, I think it will need a keynote to be presented because it will most likely be announced alongside with the new MacBook Pro. Maybe even new iPods too.

well for now i dont see apple announcing anything soon, i just know
i really would like though

It just doesn't make sense. Some retailers are down to zero units of $1149 base MacBooks, Apple is missing out huge on the back to school rush.

could mean apple updates before the back to school rush

They've got 2 weeks. Even less, considering people will want to have a laptop ready for going back to school/college and be able to use it. There is a world outside America, and in the UK school kids are back today, and most Colleges/Universities go back between the 6th - 16th September.

I thought it would be today. To me this is the last Tuesday that seems reasonable to have the laptop in the stores by school start. The fact that they missed it suggests that they are going to blow past it and probably go later in September. It also suggests to me that the change is not minor, which is why they are drying up the inventory. Personally its lousy timing. I need a laptop asap and I'm probably going to have to buy the old one.

Given the way Apple does business, would it be surprising if new laptops were released after their Back To School promotion expires (Sept 15th)?

Updates.....

Not going to release any updates during the Olympics. Too much press coverage on the games that would compete for column inches.

Couple this with the release of the iPhone 3G in the additional countries there is simply too much happening. Wait for a slow news spot (2 week post Olympics) for some big news.

why not? People need to get a life as the oylmpics do. Personal its a huge waste of money and we should be woring about more important things like counting down the days till bush leaves office.

if people want to play sports they can go to some high school gym. Not make an ass in front of them selves in front of the entire world. The awards will be thrown in a closest with in 5-10 years...

You should probably stop talking...

I kind of understand why Apple would want to wait until the end of the back to school sale (US) to release the new notebooks - despite missing out on the back to school rush. But by letting retailers run out of stock they're not only missing out on selling new notebooks to the college crowd but they're missing out on selling notebooks completely.

"Let's have a great sale at the second busiest buying time of the year and completely run out of stock - then, once the sale is over and the buying slows down we'll release brand new notebooks!"

I guess thats why I'm not a business major

Event announcement..

I just checked when they announced the 5th September event 2007 for the new ipods. It was August 29th. So that's about 1 week before the event.

So if all goes well, we should see media people getting invitations around September 9th.

Fingers crossed!!!

Right on, EXCEPT factor in the conventions (yes, some people do watch politics, and if nothing else every journalist is tied up throught the first week in September) and that all coinicides with getting past the 9/15 back to school promotion - soooooooooooo

Look to October 7 as the launch of the new, revamped MacBook line:

MacBook Air - 128gb SSD (160gb HD), 2gb ram (BTO 4gb), 2ghz processor

MacBook Metal - about same specs as current 2.4ghz MBP but 13" screen; BTO 8gb ram

MBP 15" - 2.5ghz-2.8ghz with new case; 250-300gb hd; BTO 8gb ram

MBP 17" - tops out at 3.1ghz; 8gb ram; 500gb hd

All upgradeable to Snow Leopard at MacWorld. How's that for dreamin'?

Air: SSD not standard
MacBook: It already has a 13" screen... No 8GB on the consumer model.
MacBook Pro: 2.4, 2.53, 2.8. BTO 8GB sounds good, NOT standard on the 17". There is no 3.1 GHz processor to go with Montevina, just a 3.06.

And if you'd been paying attention to the Keynote, you'd know that Snow Leopard isn't due until after WWDC 2009. In JUNE.

in the UK school kids are back today

We don't go back till 10th September, and I don't know any school that re-opens in August, it's always September.

I had expected an update, but because one hasn't appeared to take advantage of the B-T-S promotion, you can guarantee that the changes will be considerable, and maybe more expensive.

Yes that's the old company trick

Says the man who had his hopes for Olympic glory dashed when he was one position away from placing in the preliminaries.
and is that my problem? Nope. he should have tried harder. end of story

yeah i think that was really mature of you man :p

hey I'm just stating my opinion. people cant say their opinion with out being shut in the face..

I'm done with school :p

Well, plubic school that is, I'll go back to school with in the next year-year and a half

School (Middle, High School and some college programs) over there in Quebec start always during august.

not always. Some schools (east cost, mid west) open in late august and close in mid may. So you have the same amount of days off for summer....

Everyone? As in all Apple rumor watchers?

well if its a new product or even a major refresh with new features then yes it NEEDS a keynote
Not true, see MacBook.
