Is there a single thing Apple doesn't copy? Like jailbreak tweaks they've blatantly ripped off and baked into iOS? Or things from Android?

It goes both ways. Choice and competition is not bad for consumers. Not everybody has an iPhone.

As long as the morons recognize it goes nothing ways then sure.

In 5-10 years we'll have the pleasure of having our transactions declined and our digital wallets locked due to breaching vague and confusing terms of service. Social credit type systems trickling through, drop by drop.

But hey look at how shiny and fast our new toys are! :)

Who in their right mind would trust Google with their financial information?

We all have this idea that we would see tyranny coming in the form of a new Nazi party with some comically evil leader. But the reality is, it already started with the advent of Google chipping away at our privacy to the point where you have none left.

I would probably pay $2000 to have my entire digital life completely gone from the internet - not that I have anything to hide but I don't think we really considered the consequence of giving up everything for free to companies devoid of any moral compass.

They have been working on this since last year with Citibank. The project had stalled as it was due around Oct 2019.

Unless there are benefits, perks, lower fees/rates, etc. what's the point of opening and managing yet another account?

Agreed, you couldn't pay me to use this today (now that I'm older and wiser (hopefully)). That and Google has conditioned me to expect them to give up on products I integrate into my life and rely on.

I'm with you. I used to be a huge Google Fan back in the day but the constant introducing a product and dropping it turned me off. Microsoft is similar as well.

Apple Cash hasn’t really taken off. Venmo still holds supreme here, Apple just never really made this feature front and center via marketing.

So they're basically brining back the Google Wallet format.
For those that don't remember. Back in 2013 Google had a MasterCard backed debit card (physical and Virtual) that did the same thing.

Actually still have it sitting in an old wallet.

It's not their first go at making a cash card. They tried a few years ago with Google Wallet. It didn't take off then and they ended operations, while sending everyone to this online bank named Simple, and give them a $20 "account warming" credit to entice them. I was one of those users.

A pre-paid card would not offer much benefit. With a credit card you are atleast getting access to a line of credit and often, better consumer protection.
I honestly think Google would struggled to gain people from the likes of PayPal if all they are offering is a pre-paid card.

In my opinion, they and Apple should both open their own fin tech bank. Both companies would easily be able to finance the launch or purchase of one.
They might see a problem in traditional banks no longer accepting Apple Pay/Google Pay as they are a competitor, but they would both see a vast increase in customers.

Fintech banks like Starling and Monzo in the UK, both work very well and are largely superior to traditional high streets banks in many areas.
As it happens, in my opinion it’s the North American markets that are crying out for these challengers banks to disrupt the market.
