Nobody is going to say "Competition is good"???
Wait are you saying Apple has a monopoly on credit cards now and only Google could be competition? I know I’ve been hiding inside for a while so maybe I missed on the news about all the credit card companies going out of business 😂

I actually do think it’s a great thing that they copied Apple’s Card idea here. This will hopefully boost the competition in the “phone based credit card” arena. I can foresee Apple being “forced” to improve their cards to keep up with whatever Google throws into their offering.

But wow, they really went for an almost exact replica of the UI didn’t they? I guess if it ain’t broke...

Steal my data to sell to any bidder and take a cut of my purchases? Pass. Never use anything from the Mountain View Ad Company. They are Facebook without the wormy CEO.

I’ve had the Apple Card for a few months now and use it all the time

Competition between Google & Apple in smartphones is great for consumers - I would love to see both of them competing for users with better rewards programs with their credit cards!

Competition is great yet Apple only serves the United States citizen with the Apple Card. Apple Cash as well. Google, dare I say it, may go full North America at launch and maybe quicker to UK, Italy, Spain, and France before Apple will.

I'd love to have Apple Cash and Apple Card here in Canada ... I just don't know what's holding Apple and their partner up.

Is there a single thing Google doesn't copy?
It's embarassing to see this non-innovation from the richest tech company in the world.

Why spending a penny in creating something new when you can just wait for others to do the job and copy it for free? /s

I wish there was some business they could be blocked from doing or engaging in. These companies are getting ridiculous in that they have to be in every business google especially.

I see it a little differently than others on here. I think the rampant copying in some cases hurt consumers. When you have a company like Apple that innovates and modifies existing products and makes them better, that is a good thing. The problem is, you get the copycats jumping in not to make a better product but to swoop in on the cash opportunity. So in many cases, competition doesn't push companies to innovate, it actually pushes companies to just mail it in and copy. I'm looking at you Google, and Samsung!

Nice. The US continues to be dragged kicking and screaming into the age of contactless payments. The Banks had no interest, Apple and Google are stepping up.

For those that are down on Google following in Apples footsteps, dont be. Modernizing our payment systems and enabling more transparency is as good thing for us. As is competition.

Yeah let me trust all my credit card transactions to the company that specializes in selling personal information 🤦‍♂️
Jesus H, this old trope.
It's like the Safari is snappier thing from way back.

Usually those who parrot this line can not uually point to any HARD facts. Same ones that ignore the privacy snafus that Apple has had, ignore the shell companies that Apple has, you know the ones that have less public accountability/image that very likely buy the kind of information they pretend that they don't collect directly from you.

I'm all for alternatives.

Tell you what, once something has been done, nobody else should do it as that's just copying right?
So the next new car manufacturer should release a model with no wheels, seats or steering wheel - they'll just have to innovate their way around things?
Virtually every single manufacturer in every other field brings their interpretation of a feature to the market sooner or later. There were lots of touch screen phones around before the iPhone.........
Somehow it's only a problem if Apple does it first and then it's off limits?

Go back and read posts 5 & 6. Maybe you'll edit your post afterward?

So it’s like Grab in a sense? Basically a virtual wallet that I can load funds into and use to pay for stuff?

In that case, it will need to have some excellent perks for me to use it. Grab did for a while (~equivalent to 2.7% cash back) until they started slashing them and I have not used grabpay ever since.

Apple Card is more seamless in that sense. Just pay and clear the balance at the end of the month.

Wonder what’s Google’s angle here.

Look at Samsung. Do you guys realize that the Samsung Group owns dental offices? They sell dishwashers and washing machines? They sell life insurance? They operate theme parks and zoos in South Korea?

They also manufacture and sell military hardware (robots and drones) to the Korea army.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everland

Everland is South Korea's largest theme park. Located at the Everland Resort in Yongin, a city in Gyeonggi-do, it receives 5,85 million visitors annually[2] and was ranked nineteenth in the world for amusement park attendance in 2018.[2] Along with its main attractions, Everland includes a zoo and water park known as Caribbean Bay. Everland is operated by Samsung C&T Corporation (formerly known as Samsung Everland, Cheil Industries), which is a subsidiary of the Samsung Group.

To be fair they have tried their hand at similar stuff like this before. I still have my Google Wallet card (now defunct) from many years ago which I save as a collectible. Google’s issue is that most things they implement fail. As to why that is I have no idea.

Hard fact "the company that specializes in selling personal information"... See how easy that was. All you had to do was read my post. I know we have people here in the forums that have mad love for Google but they're still a company that makes money selling information about people.

I'm sure Apple has nothing to worry about. Once it starts to fail Google will quickly abandon it. It's what they do

Please qualify, "Personal information". Give a real world example;
Can another company buy my name, address, and other personal details from them?
Whether you choose to believe them or not, the following is from Google themselves;
We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We use data to serve you relevant ads in Google products, on partner websites and in mobile apps. While these ads help fund our services and make them free for everyone, your personal information is not for sale.

Also bear in mind that Apple uses 'data' to tailor products to its customers.

I'd love to grab a ride on that bandwagon you're driving but judging by the number of upvoters on your initial post all seats appear to be sold.

You’re splitting hairs over whether a 3rd party gets your info or whether your privacy is “merely” violated by Google themselves as they make money off serving you an ad based on your search history, your location, how often you go there, & now... how much you usually spend there and on what.
If you’re of the ilk that don’t mind that, for whatever perk this card adds, so be it. But please don’t pretend like it’s not a valid comparison to note that Apple Card will NOT be used to make money off of your (previously) private information.

Please. Qualify. Personal. Info.

Apple are also well known to use your, 'personal info' to determine how they think the product they sell should be designed. I never said that I don't mind. here's what I do know.
Big companies all take advantage of their users and if you don't think Apple arrive at pretty much the same info as the others but by second hand means I have a bridge to sell you.
It's like extra ordinary rendition. The US say they don't torture and in technical terms they probably don't. So they give the job to some one else to do to keep their hands clean on paper.
Tech firms want precious metals etc and the cost and regulation is too much so what they do is get it from somewhere else where they either know or strongly suspect that the regulations are less strict. So on the face of it, they have these impeccable standards and high ideals but in reality they're just pretending the problem doesn't exist and even if it does it's not their fault/problem.
Again though read the statement;
We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We use data to serve you relevant ads in Google products, on partner websites and in mobile apps. While these ads help fund our services and make them free for everyone, your personal information is not for sale.
But let me quote you what the OP said;
Yeah let me trust all my credit card transactions to the company that specializes in selling personal information 🤦‍♂️
