You know, I love all things Apple, for years and years, i have macbooks, imacs, etc., but i HATE the iphone. hate the design. my friends laugh when i show them my phone that i absolutely love. its a Lumina 950XL. yup a windows phone, which before you laugh is based on a Nokia phone which were the best phones ever. & I for one was mad when nokia sold out to windows.

i am not an app user, i have an ipad for that, but for the basics, phone, calls, email, simple apps its great and its beautiful. and fuctionality is so easy, easy to use. within two clicks you are where you want to be. I had an iphone for work and hated it, it was set up with those ugly home icons, that didnt move, all the same size, just plain ugly. I also had an android phone which the functionality was just horrible , horrible to find things, to do things, hated that too.

I refuse to buy an iphone until it changes. I seriously wish, apple folks would look at the artistic look of the 950XL and copy some of the features, with this dark screen i can see they are finally getting it, I have had an awesome darks screen for ? 4 years, if Apple would just open themselves to looking at the lumina phones and threw some design money at their iPhones it would be the best of two worlds. It seems like apple as just forgotten about unique designs, stuff that made apple great, and unique and just keeps producing the same dull thing. i'm holding onto my 950XL for as long as i can..when it dies, i dont know what im gonna do...i'm hoping my next phone will be an Iphone but Apple is gonna have to start designing like they used to..

It’s not 2010 anymore. It’s time for you and others to curb expectations of major software or hardware redesigns every couple of years let alone every year. The market is mature. Overall the design of iOS is just fine, but could use some tweaks here and there. Which is what happens now. And apple is selling loads of devices and making lots of money. Clearly they know what they’re doing.

For the 50th time around here, I’ll refer to the car market. Cars get very very minor tweaks every year and moderate or major redesigns every 5-7 years.
Well said. A radical redesign would actually be completely counter-productive. iOS (on the iPhone) is very close to perfect as is, and minor tweaks and improvements (especially w.r.t. performance and power management) is all that is required.

iPad is another story... Personally, I would gladly trade a year of nothing but security updates to iPhone feature wise, to get some meaningful improvements to the way iPad works as a productivity (rather than just media consumption) device.

You're in luck because iOS 13 is going to be very iPad focused.

Isn't True Black the worst thing you can do for User Experience?

I remember hearing in one of my lessons that OLEDs have a very high response time from going from off to on, which will cause some sort of disortion/smearing.

I know Apple is Apple, but thats a problem (I guess) even Apple could not fix software-side I think. Or am I wrnog? (like burn-in-protection aka pixelshift, which can be indeed be fixed via software)

Regarding dark mode, google did the same thing in Q by making it pure jet black. Not sure this is better or maybe depends on personal preference. But pure jet black is about as opposite as the pure white and both can be hard on some people’s eyes. I wish they had gone with a dark grey as that is much more pleasing and softer. Some google apps use the dark grey backgrounds and it is much preferred IMO but of course everyone has their own opinion about it. Maybe Apple will surprise us. But probably not

Right! There’s a reason blackboards aren’t black any longer but generally green.
White text on black backgrounds is more strain to read. Opthamologist have backed this for decades.
I just wish “dark mode” was adjustable to suit personal preference, say from black to a middle gray.

If all we get is dark mode and few other tweaks then I am out. iOS is just so dated, my iPhone has sat un-used for months now only still have it as I am on the upgrade programme.

I am not sure I can take another 12 months of those icons and that 6x4 layout that wraps from the top.

Have to see what happens when it’s out but seems dark mode is the only noticeable difference UI wise.

Sounds like you don’t like iOS very much.

Don’t think iOS 13 is going to make any difference for you.

There are numerous rumors of very specific and substantial changes to iOS, including multiple windows that can be torn off and layered, new multitasking features, etc.

Why is it every time there is a rumor of a specific new feature everyone has to chime in with “that’s it? That sucks! I’m out of here!”

Looking good. Curious about the reminders revamp. I ditched their UI for Fantastical 2 a while back.

This redesign is almost an exact ripoff of the Memento app. Great design btw but clearly Apple took a look at Mementos idea.

I was hoping they'd finally rethink the 12 year old app springboard and dock design, but nope. Exact same old, just with a coat of black.

I think their design team has taken an indefinite sabbatical and it's just MBA dropout product owners running the show.

It doesn’t take a PHD to be a good designer lol. Especially since some of the best computer folks barely graduated from whatever money out they call college these days.

I know wwdc is gonna be another disappointed keynote us apple fans just want something wow and its been years since we did, they just don't care anymore, just cpu upgrades in old cases

How old is the X? Complete redesign. You make it sound like they haven’t changed the phone in years which is far from true

Just use invert colours does same thing

not true i have everything in apples eco system and wouldn't switch but these boring updates are annoying me i don't care for dark mode not used it ever on any app or Mac i want simple things like remove annoying home bar and give me something fresh but nope just few minor updates like everything apple is doing now days

Dark mode is far more of a refresh than removing the home bar an no inverting the colors is not the same thing...

If iOS13 doesn't have a complete refresh and redesign after the lacklustre iOS12 I'll be so disappointed. The UI is plain and simply horrible. I cant believe we've had those ***** icons for 6 years from a company that is supposes to be world class when it comes to design.

There's only so many ways you can represent a cluster of icons on a screen. How many times do you think you can re-do an optimum state? The design isn't supposed to entertain you. Its supposed to be as simple and functional as possible. You seem really angry at not having different looking icons and icon layouts. Many people love iOS for exactly that. Being simple, plain and consistent.

It can stay plain and consistent. Doesn’t make any diff to me but wish I could move icons where I want on the grid. A simple thing that Apple will probably never allow. I don’t think the die hard fans would care and some might like it. Those not interested could leave it as is. :)
And, one more thing, how about letting us edit the icon name or leave it blank. Safari doesn’t need to say safari under it. I know it’s safari.

It wasn't just the UI for me, I found the app to be so buggy. Reminders are a huge part of my personal/work life and I love the Siri functionality, but I couldn't use the app they made for it. Thankful for 3rd party apps.

I don't anymore no. The look of the UI is imo just so dated. I've been hoping they would freshen up the UI for years but it has been largely unchanged.

I think the constant price gouging has soured my view of the company too. Under SJ it was 'Build it and they will come' and under TC it is more like 'They are already here let's fleece them for every penny they have'. I mean we thought over $1000 for a phone was a lot but a $1000 for a monitor stand is a whole new level!
