honestly, what have we learned from this leak that wasn't obvious already:

-lighter
-thinner
-camera (FaceTime)
-no more bezel (like the iPhone 4 and 4th Generation iPod touch)
-no more curved design (like the iPhone 4 and 4th Generation iPod touch)

as well as the more likely to happen:
-more ram
-faster processor
-Apple's version of Retina Display for the iPad (not 4x the pixels like the iPhone/iPod touch, but definitely a higher ppi to make text and images look better)
-better battery life (just because they can)

Apple's "version" of the Retina Display? You do realize that 'Retina Display' is simply a marketing term, and means nothing, right?

just waiting now for the invitation for the January event assuming thats when they announce it. I agree its gonna be:

faster cpu, more ram, thinner, lighter, more battery, not curved, camera.

I think its pretty obvious that thats what its going to be. I hope the event is in earlier January and they start shipping soon after. I have $350 in gift cards ready just waiting for the launch day.

That's probably wats going to happen.
Apple is so predictable :D

Brace yourself for the Apple i

I kind of think that is his point. He says: "(not 4x the pixels like the iPhone/iPod touch, but definitely a higher ppi to make text and images look better)"

So, Apple can make any iPad 2 screen that is higher res than iPad 1, and call it the "iPad Retina Display." The "version" for the iPad 2. Not the iPhone 4 "version."

thank you, and yes, that is what I meant and I am fully aware that the word Retina Display is just a marketing term.

I also want to point out to some that current generation iPad cases have the same opening on the top as the leaked cases for the next version of the iPad.

iPad 2 imminent?

According to the type and origin of the leaks, historically, this would mean that the iPad 2 is imminent. If these are legitimate cases, then the hardware design has already been signed off as final and 3rd parties notified of the dimensions. It's as if Apple were getting ready to announce it within the next 30 days.

That's great and all, but if I were one of the millions of buyers or recipients of an iPad for Christmas, I wouldn't be too happy to see a new one come out immediately after.

I'm savvy enough to have waited but I know many who did not.

Nonetheless, bring on the iPad 2. I'm in.

No more bezel? An article a week or two ago stated the new bezel was to be smaller - by less than 2 mm on each side. But it didn't say eliminated.

Which of those cutouts is for USB?

Maybe the screen resolution will be improved to the equivalent of the retina display marketed in the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Open 'top' so that it can be put in a stand without removing it from the case? Or maybe just because it would require too many openings on that edge of the case.

It's a marketing term but it's called "retina" for a reason. The resolution is above 300ppi, making the pixels smaller than the human retina can distinguish. To call it "retina display" and still be able to differentiate the pixels with the human eye would be a misnomer at the least, bordering on deception. False advertising would not bode well for such a high profile product.

The * on the end of that is only if you hold the iPhone further than 10 inches away. I believe the Human Eye could see something like 320ppi if I remember the figure correctly.

Lol glad youre savvy. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my new iPad and will sell it the minute macrumors is notified of a keynote this spring. I will then buy the new one :D

Apple has defined the term as being a high enough resolution such that pixels cannot be distinguished at a nominal viewing distance. For an iPhone / iPod Touch, that's presumably around 10 inches. This means that the display on those units must be >300ppi. For the iPad, however, the nominal viewing distance would be more like twice that, meaning the display would have to have approximately >150ppi to qualify as a "retina display". And the fact that it is less than 300ppi wouldn't, in any way shape or form, make it a misnomer or a deception. It is all in the definition...

And what do you do if at the keynote it's announced that the iPad 2 will begin shipping on March 31st? Then you'll have to go two and a half months without an iPad! (Assuming the keynote is in early to mid January.) ;)

Apple wouldn't announce a product update that early before actual release. And don't give me last year blah blah. They were introducing an entirely new product, not updating an existing one.

Retina display is unlikely, because in marketing terms, Apple said it means it's pixels are indistinguishable by the human eye. That is even if you hold it to your face. (I can hold my iPhone 4 to my face and cannot differentiate any pixels)

I think it will just have a higher resolution display. Since the iPad is held further from your face than the iPhone, it doesn't need as high of a pixel density. The current resolution is 1024x768 (131ppi). To be retina at exactly 330ppi (same as iPhone 4) it will need to have a resolution of 2560x1920.

2560x1920 PEOPLE!!!

Even a mac pro would struggle to push that resolution, let alone an iPad.
And then imagine battery life? It would be useless since we wouldn't hold it that close to our face.

I don't think we will see a better display, not until the 3rd gen. But if we do, my guess is it will either be around 1200x900 (154ppi) or if we're very lucky, 1600x1200 (206ppi). ;)

Yea I really believe some third party run of the mill cheapo accessory maker knows what Apple's plans are so they can prepare themselves for the upcoming launch of their new ipad.

RIGHT!

If you believe that one I have a bridge to sell you.

No names mentioned as to who is doing the requesting, all very murky, nothing definitive or concrete, as usual.

Seems to me like a lot of continued BS that we normally see in the lead up to the launch of a new Apple product.

Just hype and speculation. Everyone wants their 15 minutes in the lime light even the little old factory worker in China!

People PLEASE: they won't up the resolution very much. It won't even be 2x. I'd expect a mild bump if there is any at all. (I hope there is, and the more the better.)

The processing and memory is of maximum interest to me, along with further function added to the device. Bezels and frames and materials aren't a big deal to me.

I'd be shocked if battery life decreases. I'll be happy to see it increase, but it probably won't increase due to the higher function and processing coming along.

Im really tired of reading posts like these. Everyone knows that a better version will eventually come out. It's like being a spoiled only child who got a new toy, but then pissy when the bigger better version with more lights and sounds comes out. Seriously. Just enjoy your ***** products. No one cares that you waited, especially not those of us who have one now and are enjoying the hell out of it with little recourse as to whether or not the iPad 2 trumps ours.

You know the existence of the iPad 2 doesn't immediately rendered the first gen iPad obsolete. If it was worth gifting/purchasing in the first place...

FWIW, if you desire the latest and 'greatest' then do your homework and be smart, but also know this: There will always be something new and 'better' just over the horizon.

Having the images pulled could actually be a brilliant part of a deception, as the case leaks themselves may have been. Wouldn't be the first time Apple has led the rumor mill down the wrong path.

Let's see the takedown request. No better way to artificially generate rumor credibility than fake a takedown.

From the looks of things, it's working, considering all the people who are automatically assuming it's some kind of "confirmation".

People are skeptical and ask for proof about rumors. They're not so skeptical or proof-seeking when it comes to supposed takedowns/legal threats.

I'm not saying it's not possibly a real iPad 2 thing. Just wear your skeptical hat at all times.
