iPad, schmiPad. A new one is coming. It will have new features and design. It will cost the same. Anything else you need to know? :p

nothing new, any intelligent comments on SD card/usb possibility?
no? not happening?

---and iPad 2 will not have a higher resolution display. it has to be 4x the amount of pixels, therefore apps can be upscaled, otherwise previous apps will have to run in a windows with black bars around them, or they will have artifacts and other glitches, unless of course apple manages to get a 2048x1536 on the ipad 2..... but that is highly unlikely.

honestly, what have we learned from this leak that wasn't obvious already:

-lighter
-thinner
-camera (FaceTime)
-no more bezel (like the iPhone 4 and 4th Generation iPod touch)
-no more curved design (like the iPhone 4 and 4th Generation iPod touch)

as well as the more likely to happen:
-more ram
-faster processor
-Apple's version of Retina Display for the iPad (not 4x the pixels like the iPhone/iPod touch, but definitely a higher ppi to make text and images look better)
-better battery life (just because they can)
Hahahaha, no bezel? That's not going to happen. The bezel is there so you have a place to put your thumbs... you couldn't hold it very easily without touching the screen if the bezel weren't there. With the iPhone it's a different story because you can palm the thing in your hand and put your fingers on the sides in portrait mode. The bezels on the top and bottom of the iPhone is for gripping it in landscape where it would be uncomfortable to palm and put your fingers on the sides. Removing it from the iPad would make no sense and isn't going to happen.

this is what I meant by bezel (unless it is know by another name), and maybe I mis-spoke, what I meant to say is that I think it will adopt a more low profile bezel like the current iPhone and iPod touch, and not completely go away.

According to the type and origin of the leaks, historically, this would mean that the iPad 2 is imminent. If these are legitimate cases, then the hardware design has already been signed off as final and 3rd parties notified of the dimensions. It's as if Apple were getting ready to announce it within the next 30 days.

That's great and all, but if I were one of the millions of buyers or recipients of an iPad for Christmas, I wouldn't be too happy to see a new one come out immediately after.

I'm savvy enough to have waited but I know many who did not.

Nonetheless, bring on the iPad 2. I'm in.

Apple don't notify the Case Suppliers in advance, the case suppliers get their information from their contacts at the factories in China, all the early cases come from Chinese Companies...

I hope not. The way I use the iPad I need the bezel, else I'd continually touch the screen and get sick of it. Same with everyone else I know who has used one.

Are you guys predicting a thinner border (padding) around the screen? That doesn't make any sense, you need room for your thumbs.

Maybe I misread...

I'm still not sold on the higher resolution thing, as it would bring in another factor of fragmentation. Developers then have to optimize for two iPad resolutions...

Only viable upgrade option that would make sense is to go to a 1080p capable screen - but what for if you only sell 720p content?

Therefore my vote is no on a higher resolution screen.

Agree 100%.

But, having them touch sensitive would be cool - better than double clicking the home button, to bring the multitasking bar up.

.........from this............................to this

I am talking about the Chrome bezel, not the black frame around the screen. Apple is going to give it the same technique as the current iPhone/iPod touch and have the black frame reach to the edge, and the chrome bezel will be less noticeable, more low profile (Like the current iPod touch).

I should apologize. I sent out the cease-and-desist order as a joke, but this has gotten far too out of hand. The case is an obvious fake, so I though it would be ironic/funny if the site got a takedown order. However, people's naivete have sadly hyped this up in a hurry to be something more than it is.

I'm sorry.

Yea I know I like to keep guessing but they just go and ruin the fun

Im really tired of reading posts like these. Everyone knows that a better version will eventually come out. It's like being a spoiled only child who got a new toy, but then pissy when the bigger better version with more lights and sounds comes out. Seriously. Just enjoy your ***** products. No one cares that you waited, especially not those of us who have one now and are enjoying the hell out of it with little recourse as to whether or not the iPad 2 trumps ours.

You know the existence of the iPad 2 doesn't immediately rendered the first gen iPad obsolete. If it was worth gifting/purchasing in the first place...

FWIW, if you desire the latest and 'greatest' then do your homework and be smart, but also know this: There will always be something new and 'better' just over the horizon.

Sure, if you're getting an iPad months before a new one is expected -- great. Enjoy it. But if you buy an iPad and a few weeks later a brand new version comes out with a lot better specs for the same price, you will feel like you missed out. I didn't want the first gen iPad so I've been waiting for one with a better screen, lighter and with a FaceTime camera. It's coming soon. I'm glad I resisted buying the original over Christmas.

The Wall Street Journal reports that several of the purported iPad 2 photos found on Alibaba.com , a small business e-commerce site, have been removed upon legal demand:

Alibaba is a Chinese giant on the Net.
It's not a small website, everybody knows Alibaba in the industry.
In 2009 they had revenue for about USD 600M that in China is a lot ... a lot of money.

You know this might actually be a Sting Op by Apple looking for the Leaks and costing those that fall for it a lot of money in creating molds for prototypes.
You send the CNC-files to your supplier inform them the numbers you hope to produce and tell them to wait because its not the final design. Each supplier gets a different file and then watch the Magic.
Now you know who gets the deal and who is fu?&§ed. :(
How great dose it feel not to be part of the Deal of a Lifetime because you couldn't hold you Trap. :p

Yep! That's why I just liquidated my 64GB WiFi yesterday on ebay. I bought it one month after the launch, knowing I was going to dump it as soon as the announced the addition of a front-facing camera. I'm expecting to see a flood of used and unopenned (gifted?) Stock to hit any second, and I didn't want the resale value to plummet. It didn't even last a full 24 hours, and fetched $660.

Bring it on!

The punt of money and time required to create the plastic case even if it's a one off test makes me believe it's real. The opening on topmost for the 3G antenna.

Apple wouldn't announce a product update that early before actual release. And don't give me last year blah blah. They were introducing an entirely new product, not updating an existing one.

Okay, I won't give you last year blah blah. But I will point out that Apple has announced more than a few product updates, not new products, in January which didn't ship until a February or March timeframe. Check your history. (Now, I'll also add that most of these were in the context of MacWorld, which was a set event not a specially scheduled press conference. So, in that light, you're probably right that there won't be that long a delay, if there will be any at all, between the announcement and the shipping of the new device.

Retina display is unlikely, because in marketing terms, Apple said it means it's pixels are indistinguishable by the human eye. That is even if you hold it to your face. (I can hold my iPhone 4 to my face and cannot differentiate any pixels)

Uh, no. Apple has said that "retina display" means that pixels are indistinguishable from a nominal viewing distance. Even the iPhone's display pixels can be seen, by most people, if you get close enough. Here's a good reference chart:

Minimum Resolution for Smooth, Clean Images (dpi)
Vision
Distance..........20/20.............20/15
36"....................68.....................90
24"...................101...................135
18"...................135...................180
12"...................203...................270
8"....................304....................405
6"....................405....................540

So, you see, for people with 20/20 vision, the iPhone would not be considered a retina display if they were regularly holding it closer than 6" from their face. And, for the iPad, which is normally held between 12" and 18", a pixel resolution in the range of 150 to 200 ppi would be sufficient to consider it to be a retina display. (There is a great explanation of this here).

Therefore...

I don't think we will see a better display, not until the 3rd gen. But if we do, my guess is it will either be around 1200x900 (154ppi) or if we're very lucky, 1600x1200 (206ppi). ;)

I'd say you're arguing that the iPad will have a retina display, based on these resolutions. ;)

And, of course, Apple might not be bringing it on for a few months yet, and now you'll have to go without having an iPad for that time...

For your sake, and all of ours, I hope it does come out soon! ;)
